    Thanks for posting this. I have the 9x8 . It has gone through several Mojave desert wind storms without any problems. I will be living out of this tent for a month in the Chihuahua desert of West Texas in the month of March. So I am trying to figure out a heat source.

      Thanks for watching! Well to be quite honest the options are just about endless. If you have the ability to bring wood or source it (unlikely in the desert) I would say a wood stove is undoubtedly the best move. However, if that's not an option, propane heaters are the next best thing and they don't require the modification of a beautiful canvas tent 😅. Happy trails!!

    Great video. I have the same tent, cots and ordered my Gstove when lockdown happened back in March. Still waiting on the stove 🤷🏻‍♂️. I can’t decide where I want to place my stove and it kills me that I have to cut a hole into my precious Kodiak canvas⛺️
    We’ve used our tent on many great family camping trips here in California. Great tent

      Its definitely a great tent, holds up great to anything California has thrown at me so far. Its very hard to cut a hole in the canvas... its terrifying 😳 but very worthwhile to have a hot tent setup!

    The grey colored Dektites are fine for use with a double wall pipe penetration but they're not rated for high temps. The red colored Dektites are for high temp use and then you shouldn't get the issue you're having with yours.

I’d obviously want it to stay on the longest without feeding every hour but I know it’s tough. Always gunna be just me in my tent most likely maybe dog too

    Hello, awesome to see a video of a kodiak with a wood stove in it....that was what had kept me from considering one, unfortunately that left me woth the bell tent or a swuare hunting tent, both were bot ideal options. What kind of stove is that? I like the glass in the door, watching the fire will be a noce option in the winter when theres not much else to do....

    • @TheStoicWolfe
      @TheStoicWolfe  4 года назад

      The stove is made by a company called winnerwell. Theres plenty of options out there regarding stoves, but either way it's very relaxing watching the flames and listening to the crackle while drifting off to sleep. I favor the kodiak over the other styles due to the shape of the footprint. Its easier to find a small square flat spot in than it is a round one like a bell style.

    Thinking about getting the 9x8 as well and eventually DIY a stove jack too. Quick question: Would you recommend this tent for my gf and I along with our dog? Could this fit a queen sized pad/mattress and still have enough room for a stove jack and sleeping area for our dog?
    Thanks!

  • @timothypluta8099
    @timothypluta8099 3 года назад +1

    Thanks for the video! It's hard to tell in the video but would you say you have enough room in the 10x10 to put a queen mattress in and not be too close to the stove? I'm looking to pick up a canvas tent with a stove jack but I'm not sure if 10x10 will be big enough for both the queen size mattress and stove. Thanks!

    • @TheStoicWolfe
      @TheStoicWolfe  3 года назад +2

      Is it an inflatable mattress? It might be a tight squeeze with how my setup is, but it wouldn't be hard to turn the stove to accommodate a mattress. Queen beds are usually about 62 inches i believe... so in theory you should be golden depending on where you place the stove and which way you lay the mattress. Youre probably gonna end up with the side of the mattress against a wall to keep a buffer between you and the stove. Best of luck! Theyre awesome tents!

    • @isaiahrodriguez9842
      @isaiahrodriguez9842 2 года назад

      Honestly I have the same tent but in a 10x14 an my queen size mattress fits in it perfectly. Honestly I feel like the extra 4 feet makes a huge difference. 10x10 is good but the 10x14 is what I would recommend if you want a queen.

    I have the Teton sports 10 x14 Mesa canvas tent , looks just like that one, i think kodiak and Teton sports copied spring bar tents, but anyway I love it and have been debating if I should install a stove jack and use a wood burning stove, how often do you have to clean the stove pipe with that bend in it? The way you installed yours is the perfect way to install it for this type of tent

    • @TheStoicWolfe
      @TheStoicWolfe  3 года назад

      I think you're right, I know they're not the original designers of this style, but either way it works very well for me. I've only cleaned this pipe twice. You'll be able to tell real easily when you take it apart on how blocked it is. You'll have a hard time keeping the fire going before you have to worry about a chimney fire. When mine gets backed up I can tell because it doesn't burn as efficiently and it kicks smoke back out the dampner. Thanks for checking it out, I hope it helped!

    I bought the 10x14 this year and used it 3 times. LOVE IT. Now I was beating my head trying to get a wood stove in it. This is the first video with a stove in the deluxe. The end windows was making me worry about the pipe penetration. Do you have more videos? Oh and yes I am subbing you.

    • @TheStoicWolfe
      @TheStoicWolfe  4 года назад +1

      The hardest part about installing the stove was choosing where it was gonna sit. To do this I had to commit to a setup that I liked, which wasn't hard because in the 10x10 theres only 2 ways to setup with my preferred methods to keep open space for 2 adults and 2 large dogs. I do have more videos and I'm planning on making more soon! Thank you!

    does the stove get hot enough to melt the bottom of the tent? i know the mat protects from embers, but it doesn't stop heat from penetrating does it? Also do you support your flu pipe outside? no issues with it tipping or blowing over?

    • @TheStoicWolfe
      @TheStoicWolfe  3 года назад +1

      No it sits up off the ground high enough to not melt anything. Ive had the belly glowing red hot and still haven't had any issues... But I dont use the stove without the mat just in case of stray embers. As far as flue pipes, there are tie down points on the spark arrestor but ive never tied any of them down. Theyre fairly snug fitting and they withstand light winds without moving.

    What size is your winnerwell stove, medium or large?
    I’m interested in a 10x14 or possible 10x10 Kodiak flex bow tent and a winnerwell stove.
    Don’t know if the medium or large winnerwell would be best?
    I camp into winter with temps into the low teens.
    Now that’s some time has passed since this video how it this setup holding up?

    • @TheStoicWolfe
      @TheStoicWolfe  Год назад +1

      Based on the dimensions on their site this is the large model. I camp in the same Temps as well and even in the snow. This tent is well worth the money, very durable, stands the test of strong winds well and perfect for a relatively tall guy like me.. Being able to stand upright inside is nice lol I will say that I camp with my other half and our 2 large sized dogs in the 10x10 and it's doable so long as the dogs don't want to be up running around. I dont think I would buy the bigger one if I did it again because this one is adequate. Unless I was using it for extended camps, like a week or more, the extra room isn't necessary for me.

    Hey man, do these canvas tents get hot inside with 80 plus degree weather? Just curious thanks!

    • @TheStoicWolfe
      @TheStoicWolfe  3 года назад

      Yes they can get pretty warm inside but I would argue less than a traditional tent. You're getting the radiant heat off the canvas from the sun, whereas a traditional tent it seems like it multiplies the heat.. probably some science behind UV and whatnot... However, theres plenty of huge windows and doors in this thing to open up for a breeze!

    My question is, you said it was your fault the piping changes colors because you got the stove too hot. How exactly is it that you got a stove too hot?? Is that something you can even control?? If so, please reveal. It seems that it’s not something you can control completely.

    • @TheStoicWolfe
      @TheStoicWolfe  2 года назад

      It is something you can control, but it actually takes effort to get the pipes glowing red. Which is what I did to damage the stove jack. I was attempting to see how hot i can make the inside of the tent... the answer is, uncomfortably hot hahaha.. What I've learned is, there's another part that you can use to minimize the destruction of the stove jack, it's like a sleeve that sits over the stove pipe and insulates the stove jack from the hot pipes...But its a cheap enough part that I'm not too worried about having to buy a new stove jack every so often.

      Thats unfortunate that you've had that experience. Ive had this tent for about 5 years now.. give or take, and it has performed very well for me. Even with having a stove installed. I can agree the zippers get pulled very tight around the top corners of the doors and its the only weak point I think this tent has. Very shameful that they won't help you with your issue. Hopefully you can find someone to fix that zipper affordably.
