That's why I build amps self bias sometimes know as cathode bias. That would general require the tubes to be balanced.

Agreed. But those Doge Amps use a bunch of logic circuits on top of however they built their Auto Bias that it can fool you into thinking your Tubes are bad when they really are just unstable. DON'T BUY PS VANE !!!!!

There isn't a real tube aficionado in the world that would say you're wrong.

Isn’t the black ice guy the same guy that makes Thomas’ tube amps?

Nah Brah. Doge (now Galion) copied a Jolida design (Jolida is now rebranded as Black Ice Audio...still assembled in Maryland, U.S.A. The PCB's are designed here but manufactured in China (for now...It's Jolida's own OEM Factory for over 30 years !). There are plans to move PCB manufacturing back here to the U.S.
Hope I set the record straight for you. As always, feel free to call Jaime or Jerred if you are interested in any of the Black Ice Audio offerings. I'm a Schill and a Fanboy so my opinion is "biased" (get it...."Try the Veal Folks")

@@seanb3303 I like Thomas too. Look at the Bose 901 Video I did on his channel four years ago. When he decided to buy Doge and use it to promote his new Amp Company. We ALL went....wuh ??? But he's having fun with it. We talk at least once a month on the phone.

Been there and done that. For a tech this is really fucking short sighted and disappointing. Especially coming from someone that is so knowledgeable. Like all things it depends on the design of the circuit and amp. Sure, there is a lot of B.S. from manufactures on this, as rightly pointed out. Nonetheless It appears you are using an entry level amp that have only 4 tubes, that isn't a thing. Contrasted to one with a shitty circuit design to boot. Try a McIntosh, current ARC, Prima Luna, or VAC product that has more tubes. When you go to a mono block with 8 plus each. I am sure you will start to appreciate a well-executed auto bias circuit. It is not laziness, it is time. I do not like spending 90 minutes getting 16 tubes to safe operational levels. When there are so many, it is a major pain in the ass, each tube affects the other and you have to keep going back and forth to check that the other tubes remained at optimum. I like my current amps that have a robust auto bias circuit, sounding just as good and eliminating the hassle. These are product I look to and I do not miss the earlier manual bias amps I had.

With that many Tubes I can't argue with you. But for four lousy tubes. All you need is a tuning stick/small screwdriver (my Dad's on Tire Valve Core removing tool works the best IMHO).
BTW my Recording Engineer friend says the same thing when he does mobile recordings. He doesn't reel tape and big mobile trucks/RV's (which he'd designed too).
Just a Zoom 16 track digital console for the Student Symphony stuff (he only records at 48/24 in case a client needs his recording for Video Productions). If they want funky bitrates/DSD. He'll do it for an upcharge.
There nostalgia (manual bias ore reel to reel tape) and then there's convenance (auto biasing 16 Tubes/Digital Recording).
Point taken. Thanks for your support and the realistic comments.
