Even as a kid I loved splitting wood still do, every chance I get to throw the axe around it puts a smile on my face. Now it seems like I have my own personal trainer to teach me how to work smarter, I am 49 now and will be splitting wood until I leave this planet. Thanks Buckin!!!
Im sure glad you took the route you did man, cause Bussin' Billy Ray just doesn't have the same ring to it 😂😂😂😂 put a huge smile on my face when you told the part about needing 2 372's and a couple lightweight bars! Your a good man Buckin!
Got to say, watching you in the bush,on a hot saw and axes is a perfect way to end 2024 Buckin. Thanks for all the lessons and demos over the last decade. Cheers mate. From HBNZ
Looks like you’re just having a good old time having a blast good for you Billy keep kicking. Keep doing your weightlifting logs. I have an old hook, probably 80 years old. It’s time to bring it back and pick up logs like you showed in this video. Love the ideasave your body where you can. It’s the only one you got.
I agree Buckin, all I think about is running my saws in a beautiful red fir and splitting up that glorious straight grain wood. And gosh dang it I want one of those wood bullets so bad! I’ll have one in due time! Keep living your dream!
I was hit in 1984 by a drunk driver xmas eve while working on my car that broke down heading home. As I get older I"ve overcome a lot of the physical damage to my person, but I have severe nerve compression in my right ankle that really flares up this time of year especially when I need winter firewood. I have, and continually watch your videos where I always pick up tips to help me do the task wiser that allows me to take care of my needs. I still have issues especially after a day in the bush felling, bucking, splitting then stacking I have to stay off my ankle for a day or two, But I feel a real satisfaction when the wood stove is burning that orange glow and the warm air fills the house. Thanks for your videos and honesty, you have helped me as I"m sure you've helped countless others with your video content. Now I see I really stand to gain getting one of those hooks like you have. Happy New Year to you and your family.
i broke my back due to a riding incident may 6 of 23’ but during that time i found this channel and i love the content i also have a few saws myself that i use for firewood during the winter months . i really enjoy this channel keep up the good work and keep that content coming i cant get enough!!!!
I love watching you work and hearing your thought process as you do. Thank you for sharing your wisdom. You work harder when you're younger, then realize how foolish that is when you get older so you learn to work smarter. You get more efficient the older you get often out of necessity and wisdom. You're a great guy and you are very inspirational to many. Keep doing all you do my friend.
I rest me deep within the wood, drawn by its silent call, far from the bustle of men, on natures breast I fall. All the best Buckin from the UK. Learning alot from you as I ply my trade.
Started watching your channel about 2 years ago and I gotta say your a badass! Running chainsaws and riding in classic ford's. I've gravitated towards your ways in a way. I befriended the Amish that sale stihl & arborist gear. They also fix small engines! These days I have literally one vehicle. 1988 1 ton crew cab long bed chevy. Ive got like 7 saw I think now. All stihl pro saws! Because of you I even got a 395XP! You have taught me so much in the bush and if I ever meet you I'm gonna shake your hand. Much respect from MD.
Love to see that beautiful truck pull logs out Great work stay safe. I usually cut the wood where it lays no truck right now. But you made it look easy the flick is a great log splitting technique I didn't know about it for a while . After doing it so long you adapt and learn but it's always great to have good teacher to help. Thanks Buckin You truly are great person
Happy New Year Billy Ray! I'm an Eagle Scout from the 1970's and a boater who uses the Bowline knot all the time. That and a good clove hitch does the job. Cheers.
I sailed, weekly, for about ten years and thinking back on it I don't think it was our premier knot, don't get me wrong, I've used it a lot ! But I think the sheet bend was used just as much, then the clove hitch for quick temporary stuff then the bowline. then the rolling hitch, round turn and two old bitches. What I am disappointed about is Billy not using the hitch made for the job, the Timber Hitch, which I have used along with it's red headed stepchild the The Sack knot, a huge amount, at work.
I think that I have worked around plywood too long. {Now retired.} At about 9:14, that log would have been great for two 8-foot peelers for plywood and LVL. Looked like good quality. LOL. It's terrible how my mind just automatically goes to that. Of course it's great to be cutting firewood also. That's what I consider real living. I really love that hook that you were using. My back fully understands the wisdom of using things like that. God Bless my friend. You are an inspiration.
Love your vids buckin! Been watching for a long time. You have taught me a lot. Building my new house right now. I'll have a wood boiler for my main heat with radiant floors and 2 wood stoves one on the main floor and one on second story. You have helped me realize what I want in life
Been several months since I caught a new video buckin you and your saws are always impressing me. You are a he'll of a guy. Thank you for the entertainment my friend.
I am 63. 15 years ago i met someone who had his own firewood /mowing business. He would coome in after the timber crew and clean up the tops. He used a winchto pull the tops up on his trailer and cut the wood on his trailer. What didn't cut got chipped and all hauled out. He split with a wood spilter straight off the trailer amd stacked it. 3/4 of the wood he sold as firewood and chips in his landscaping business too.
Hey Buckin! I’m really enjoying watching you evolve your way of delivering the good word😌what a great inspiration you are in my life❤sincerely thank you 🙏🏻 keep up the good work 💪
THATS SOME BEAUTIFUL LOOKING WOOD 😁👍👍THATS WHAT YOU CALL A PEACEFUL DAY ,,OUT SPLITTING WOOD WITH AN AXE AND ALL YOU CAN HERE IS THE CRACK OF THE AXE HITTING THE WOOD AND MOTHER NATURE 👍👍
Ran my 572 -30 min ago. Thank you sir. An old guy. Rain here - 18binch of snow down. Way east. I call it a pulp hook, and still have 3 of them from my Grandfather. Bb
I have 7 acres back in the woods in Alabama. I’d occasionally cut up a downed tree for some firewood when it gets a bit chilly down here, but man, since I found this channel I’m all in! Haha - I love it… great exercise, it’s calming and the sense of accomplishment is off the charts. Thx for everything you put out Billy Ray! You’re a kind soul my dude!
If a guy doesn't learn something from any 1 of your videos Buckin', well they ain't watchin'. I've been watching since very near the first and your lessons are burned into my noggin . lol
We just bought some timber land, and I've been scratching my head about how I was going to get logs out of the hard to reach places. Watching you gives me a better idea of whats possible with a little know how. Keep up the good work
Got goosebumps listening to that saw. Had a pretty wicked dirtbike as a kid. First machine I learned to wrench on, but I think Buckin has converted me to saws.
To easy Man. Ive always loved splitting Firewood. Great common sense mixed with physics hey. Old Truck in neutral even. Love ya work. Stay safe and a happy new year to all.
That straight grain fir looks so nice and man I would love to split some Took me about 3 hours last weekend to split ten 16-18” rounds of 20” hickory from a tree that snapped about 12 feet from the stump over the summer - gnarly and stringy! Probably a 1000 swings with a six pound maul
I’m just a guy with a little place I call The Ponderosa lots of trees and YOU Billy Ray Smith have helped me do all of the jobs I can do safely on my place with your videos thank you but I still call in the pros when it takes guys with experience enjoy the New Year Stay Safe
Great Video, beautiful firewood and location. makes me want to get out in the woods and split some.... I'm going to today. I remember being a little boy splitting kindling in my parents barn with a hatchet, loved it. All I'm thinking about lately are seeds, trees, and wood. Gonna be a good year !
What a cool video😊😊love the riggin ya use to pull out the logs..super cool way to do it ❤ and yes, stage up for your next load before ya head out loaded!!! Makes total sense to me💪💪love ya brother, until the next one...peace out brotatochip😊😊love from the Barths❤❤
I offer about 30% of my harvest back to the forest. Neither I or my neighbours struggles for firewood, so I'd rather add nutrients and habitat back to nature.
Man, I love that wood bullet. Just thinking about how it would make light work of my birch, beech and cherry wood. Makes me want to get back outside and chop. Beautiful.
Buckin, two off topic but non random questions for you: 1) how well do dry acorns burn? I have like one million per year and dont need more trees or squirrel chow. 2) does anybody up there buy or sell pine cones? They're amazing fire starters. I'm amazed they aren't in stores by the ten pack or whatever for three bucks.
Just watching you split that stuff with ease Just awesome, growing up at home every thing was oak , ash , and Hickory with my dad and I remember splitting some of that oak Just beating my brains out, a lot more kids now a days needs to learn about a splitting maul !
Man that fir splits nice. Shame we don't have anything so easy downunder in NZ. Only Douglas fir (Oregon pine, Douglas spruce) but it's very hard to split if you can find it. Radiata pine is pretty knotty as well unless you can get access to a pruned forest block😊
Pulling wood like that is a battle of angles and watching witch side you choke on allows you to roll the log and bounce of the stump or other obstacles. Lessons learned on the skidder with winch line and bell chokers
Had hernia surgery this morning. Perfect way to wake up from a nap....watching Buckin Billy Ray!! Thanks!
My absolute pleasure
Even as a kid I loved splitting wood still do, every chance I get to throw the axe around it puts a smile on my face. Now it seems like I have my own personal trainer to teach me how to work smarter, I am 49 now and will be splitting wood until I leave this planet. Thanks Buckin!!!
Good stuff Edward
That’s hilarious you made that look so easy. Love it Billy.
Well after a few times there had to some kind of a plan . Thanks pal
I always gather something from you Buckin thanks for sharing!

The world is a better place with Buckin' in the woods. Not behind the wheel of some bus. Lol

Got goosebumps listening to that saw. Had a pretty wicked dirtbike as a kid. First machine I learned to wrench on, but I think Buckin has converted me to saws.
Let the train take the strain !! Great job. I’m gonna try some of that.
Good afternoon buckin!

You put your crew cab ahead of your wife and kids on your “things I cherish” list. Better hope she doesn’t watch this episode!!! 😂
Buckin, two off topic but non random questions for you:
