Some of the finest 2D graphics the world had ever seen in games. The transition to 3D was clearly difficult for them - like many companies at the time, they struggled with the growing budgets that 3D games demanded. This clearly became a huge problem after 3D hardware acceleration kicked in and graphical capabilities multiplied overnight, provided a studio had the money to spend on staff to actually take advantage of this multiplier. You can see that Asghan, which comes out when 3D acceleration is just becoming mainstream, is still just about on par with other games released the same year. But by the time you get to Arabian Nights, the game visually just can't hold up to the likes of Tomb Raider Chronicles (2000) and the like. Considering that unfortunately, none of the Silmarils games ever had really well-polished gameplay (I looooove Colorado, Targhan, Ishar - but I also remember how they compared gameplay-wise to other games of the time), ultimately this company was doomed. They shut down just in time, I guess, since it seems that they still had enough money saved up to make a fresh start as Eversim.
To be honest with you, I think I finally know what happened. Major companies saw what indie and smallest companies were doing and copy-cat them with more propaganda and ads to boost it up, while the original conception of games and true sources were never mentioned. Just ''fair'' idea robbery, with the privileges given by size and money. Most of these games were too far ahead, but never hit international wide or popular audience.
On est d'accord que ces mecs ont joué avec les plus belles palettes de couleurs de l'histoire du jeu vidéo. J'adore Windsurf Willy. Encore aujourd'hui, il m'arrive de crier "Et!Hop! Yahoo!" pour rien
I only ever played a Silmarils game once, which was Arabian Nights. Asghan: The Dragon Slayer pretty much identical in look and animation style to Arabian Nights, even tho the only game I'm interested in from their creations is just Arabian Nights. Was a buggy, yet really cool game back in the early 2000s.
At that time, video games were made by friends from university, of course they called their company Silmarils because at that time many epic fantasy books were read.

Amazing 2D art. Love Colorado and Star Blade.
Metal Mutant deserves a remake
lets make it together then

Starblade deserves a remake.; The conception was ahead of its time, but combat was dull and story was weak.
Thank you so much! I have good memories for these games.
Thanks and ur welcome
enjoy !!
nice old dos games

This studio released so many shitty games, it´s a wonder that they´ve had their doors open for so long. Transarctica was quite good, though.
For some reason I thought these were games relating to JRR Tolkien's "The Silmarillion". en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Silmarillion
The Ishar games are RPGs in a bit that genre. I know Silmarils mainly for them.
The company is related by their symbol that had 3 jewels in the S.
