Several Philippine Air Force FA50 planes shown at Exercise Pitch Black 2024 during their last days in Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia.
The Philippines is now on the way to become the next middleweight military power in Asia. The Armed Forces of the Philippines have embarked on with the most ambitious modernization plans lately. They have also already entered the era of modern warfare, and are currently developing its capabilities, adding more firepower on its arsenals. More ships, surveillance aircraft, more gunships, acquiring more shore-based anti ship and surface to air missile systems, multirole fighter aircraft, electronic warfare, and in the process of acquiring their first submarine unit as well. Their military facilities are also being either developed and reinforced, or under construction. The US-PH EDCA agreement gave the Philippines a lot of boost and assistance to help them modernize their military capabilities, enhance their training, also were introduced to operate one of the most modern missile systems including several types of anti tank/bunker and shoulder fired TOW/Javelin systems, the Patriot, HIMARS, and the Typhon medium range systems, and finally, updating their doctrines.
The Philippines are conducting several joint military exercises with friendly States, and been approached by several NATO members including Canada, France, and UK to help them acquire the state of the art weapon systems. The AFP with their alliances, joined them for military exercises such as the 2024 Pitch Black, to help them hone their skills.
