@@kitsterangel certain things can scare them, but when its a specific person that scares them, that is what is most telling. sometimes it can be hard to understand what is going to trigger them until it does. if they seem a little agitated, then stop to reassure them and maybe slowly explain what you are doing, like your exercising, slowly mimick the action. it warns them what you're doing, even just in their proximity. my dog doesn't like objects being moved quickly, doesn't like shouting. he is afraid of getting in trouble, which means i have to be cautious when reprimanding him, or when i catch him after he runs inside. he used to run from me, but i can outrun him and catch up to him. after realizing i won't shout at him or even tap his butt (he'd literally curl his butt inwards while walking back to the house, and walk so oddly and slowly trying to cower away). now, he freezes for a moment when i catch him after sneaking out (he likes exploring. i call him 'curious george' for it haha). we make eye contact, i call out for him and he begrudgingly approaches me, like i've ruined his fun. like candace in phineas and ferb, but i don't try to get him in trouble with our mom (who is the reason for his issues, hence me taking control over doing these things and being responsible for him). i was swatting flies away all day long while we chilled, but i had noticed he was overwhelmed all day by everything going on in our busy neighborhood. so, when i went to swat flies and he snapped at me (not with his jaw, he just barks really loud and warns you, but it can be scary), i knew it was his anxiety and i stopped. he was on edge, but calmed when i pointed to one of the flies and slowly motioned with the journal, speaking softly to explain myself. he seemed to realize, seemed uncomfortable and apologetic. and i just shrugged it off, told him it was okay, waited for him to lie down. he faced away from me and pouted, like he was sort of mad. and i just let him alone, didn't talk any more. after a few minutes, he drew closer, cuddled up, fell asleep.

My cat is the exact opposite- a gurgly purr baby who wants love and snuggy forever and is right next to me or on me or kneading me at all times except for on the rare occasion where she goes to hide and play with my stolen socks and swimsuit

I'm 40 years old and not proud to say I've been to jail several times. One time in particular I was approached by this huge Butch bitch that wanted to fight me. I immediately started shaking, not because I was afraid but because I could feel my body loaded with adrenaline. She laughed and said you're fucking shaking. I remember saying I'm pumped and ready to go. She did back down after that. Actually she tried to meet my friend in the next few days. But yeah I was afraid, but loads of adrenaline we're also coursing through my veins. It's a fight or flight response and it does make you stronger.
