    I had a wiring issue with an Austin LP style guitar once. They happen. Especially with a new model. I put CTS pots and switches in my Austin and I’d put it up against any Gibson LP on the market.

    Martin Barre would be proud. Great riff. Good looking guitar. I picked up their 2021 dual and triple humbucker "LP" style. The dual had some serious setup issues, but the triple was just about as much fun as you could have for under $250.00. Looking forward to the wiring video.

    Nice looking blue LP style axe - and playing as usual! I also noticed that the majority of the new LPSPs don't have SS frets which I always thought was a real differentiator for Firefly, wonder why they decided to go that way,

    • @JimmyStewart1
      @JimmyStewart1  11 месяцев назад +1

      Hi TechnoRiff…thanks so much for watching and commenting. Just like many manufacturers in China, contracts are signed and orders placed with many different plants. The SS frets and ball ends are certainly a plus for most, but nice nickel frets are preferred by others. My understanding was that they were going to try to update their entire model lineup to include SS frets. They may have however, still had orders with other plants to fulfill, or could have went with nickel out of necessity to supply product as needed? It’s not a deal breaker in my opinion. I did want to bring it up in the video though, as some folks buying these “assume” they all include certain specs when they may not. Truly appreciate your stopping into the channel and sharing your thoughts! Much thanks..🎸👍

      @TechnoRiff
      Yeah…FF also needs to be more accurate in their product descriptions. They are getting better, but it is still a bit “hit/miss” as they tend to do a lot of cut/paste for descriptions and it’s not always as accurate as it should be!

    Hey Chief! First off, my girlfriend really enjoyed that you played the Aqualung riff from Jethro Tull. She was impressed, as it seems that rarely do we see a demo done with riffs from such a classic rock band. Well done. Bummer about the wiring situation with the new guitar. We were looking at that guitar just the other day.
    I understand that sometimes stuff happens with guitars, and wiring issues. I just hope this isn't an across the board issue for them. Since they sent it out for you to demo, and sponsored this episode, one would think they would give it a once over before slapping a shipping label on it. Kind of scares me a little bit. I have LP's up the wazoo so this may be a hard sell with my girlfriend even though she liked the sound, and the paint job.
    As I mentioned to you on a different video, I've got my eye on something I think just might be a very special guitar. Yes, I'm being vague because I don't want it to be sold out before I can get the go ahead to make the purchase, but I'm sure you know what guitar I'm speaking of...lol! Thanks for the nice demo, and the Aqualung riff. Talk at you soon.

    • @JimmyStewart1
      @JimmyStewart1  11 месяцев назад +1

      Hi Snarky…so glad to hear your girlfriend enjoyed! She has good taste…🤣
      When Firefly ships a guitar…no one from Firefly gets to “inspect” the guitar from when it left the manufacturing plant. They are directly shipped to CA from China. The warehouse in CA simply fulfills the order based on model/finish listed on the box. So something not caught at the QA level at the plant will only be caught once the end buyer receives the guitar. So…it’s inevitable that one gets through…not a huge deal for me, but it can happen with any guitar really.

      Also consider that if it is Ace that they're going for, his middle and neck pickups were inactive. They weren't connected at all. He only used the bridge, which actually makes this guitar accurate. I wonder if the dead pickups were by design for that reason.

    • @cbbiny
      @cbbiny 11 месяцев назад

      t1 Here's one reason why I'm thinking that. Ace used to use the selector switch as what is now called a kill switch. That only works if the other pickups are offline or each pickup has an independent volume pot. He used that affect often and it was one of his signature sounds. Coincidence that this guitar might allow for that? Hopefully someone has one of these and will comment if theirs is like yours or has fully functional pickups. I'm curious now. Really enjoy your videos Jimmy.

    Hi, Jimmy! I've been looking for your video on the 3 pup analysis. I bought the 3 pup black beauty and it has different wiring problems. The bridge pickup works as advertised, but the neck and middle pickups are wired together for some reason. The "would be" tone control for the neck does nothing for the neck or middle, so that pot is useless. I'd like to wire it so that the neck and bridge would work together or separately with a master tone, and then the middle would be wired straight into the 4th pot for volume only - always on. Maybe I'd change a pot or two for push pull coil split, but from the factory the pot cavity is pretty messy. My opinion is that the luthiers for Firefly are much better than the electronic people.

    Hi Jimmy! Looks like you got yourself an "Ace Frehley Firefly LP style guitar", methinks! That's very similar to his custom Les Paul he got this century. 1) Wow! From John 5 to Ace Frehley, you really seem to be showing an affinity for all the wild and crazy metal guitarists out there lately!!!
    2) This is another one I would NOT have expected you to go for… Somehow, I would’ve thought you’d be more of the 338 LUCILLE type! 😂
    3) My bet regarding the wiring: To have not just one, but TWO pickups be dead like that, regardless of switch position, my bet is that it’s probably either dead pickup coils, or a ground fault somewhere! My bet is that some of the contacts on the switch are probably touching the shielding or the back cover. If it were bad solder joints, it would have to be more than 1 of them to kill 2 of the pickups that way, and that seems highly unlikely. That’s why my money is on a grounding fault between either the shielding or the cavity cover. If I’m not mistaken, the wiring on these should be: Bridge/All 3/Neck, with the 3 volumes giving you the ability to dial in Neck/Bridge or just Middle. As I understand it, this is different from how Gibson originally did it on their 3 pickup Les Pauls: Bridge, B+M, and Neck. I think the Firefly way seems far more flexible, myself! The single tone makes sense, too-there’s really no need for separate tones.

The key feature on this guitar is obviously that sparkling finish, which from what I’ve read is supposedly even more impressive under certain kinds of lighting effects, which no doubt KISS used to great effect in their stage performances, along with their stage makeup. As you say, it can definitely happen, and I certainly wouldn’t fault Firefly for this at the price, especially if it turns out to be easily fixable. Hi Jimmy,
    I wasn’t a huge fan of those “S”Ps. I’m sure we all can guess why they had to change that 🤷‍♂️. Got on SOMEone’s radar as a well made (affordable) alternative?
    Anyway, while those were not quite for me, I have to say that the burst on the back of that neck is mighty fine looking.
    Can’t wait for the new drops. Do you have an idea of around WHEN they will hit the site? I check all the time, but it’s always helpful to know.
    I’ve been talking myself into a baritone lately. FF makes it easy to pull the trigger. (I’ve bought 12)😏.
    Good video, a master class in how to NOT lose it when NGD turns Sad. Well done. 👍🏻😁

      Hi Rob…thanks so much for watching and commenting…so glad to hear you enjoyed. FF never gives an “exact” date, as a lot has to do with sorting and getting correct inventory once the reach the warehouse in CA. Right now, the word is the bass and new batch of double necks should be soon, with Tele’s and Strats and more SP’s hitting around the 10th. Baritone’s, LX and LV’s by end of the month. I have the Classic Vibe baritone, and it’s a lot of fun! No worries on the wiring issue…it happens!
      I will get it sorted..🎸👍

    Jimmy, I got one of those Firefly FFST's and I'd say they are well worth $500! One of the best necks I've ever gotten on a guitar, TBH! I also have a Firefly SG that is worth $500 compared to my other guitars. But I had an LP and an Explorer that were meh. Guess it's the luck of the draw!

      Thanks so much for stopping into the channel. The newer batch of this guitar appears to be slightly different, which is not uncommon for Firefly’s between batches. Looks like the finish is slightly different, the control knobs and pickups are different, and from the pics of the model on GuitarsGarden right now, the neck heal also looks more rounded and sculpted than my version! Congrats on yours and enjoy it!! 🎸👍

    Its pretty easy to rewire: middle pickup volume isnt switched, it's always on, where the neck tone would be. The rest is a 3 way switch as normal for 2 pickups and VVT.
    The 16" fretboard with a 12" radius bridge is a total deal breaker for me, that's just stupid.
    I still maintain FF barely knows anything about electric guitars, they just know what they do.

    How disappointing. Beautiful guitar but so sad it had a wiring issue. It’s such a downer when you are excited to get an instrument just to find out it doesn’t work correctly. The same thing happened to me with the Epiphone Alex Lifeson model. I waited months for it, then finally got it and everything on it was amazing but the piezo. That didn’t work at all.

      Hi Mr Opus…thanks so much for watching and commenting. As I state in the video, I consider myself to be quite “lucky” considering the amount of guitars I have bought over the years online without actually having them in my hands before purchase. It happens…as you can attest to with your Epiphone…In this case, I will sort it out…😎
      The guitar is certainly nice, and should be a true “tone beast” once sorted! My sincere thanks for stopping in and sharing! 🎸👍

    No, Jimmy. The guitar works correctly. The other two pickups are just decorative. You have to get a lawyer to decipher the 97 pages of microscopic text, it came with. 🥲 But if I'm wrong, then imagine this. Firefly received the boxes from Asia. They then addressed one to you. But the result was exactly the opposite of what they wanted. The Firefly guy will attempt to blame the Asian inspector, who inspects one hundred guitars each day, and the higher Firefly guy will blame the lower Firefly guy, for not opening the box and checking the guitar before sending it to you. Here, I was going to put a laughing emoji, but, actually, the whole thing is too bad. You did a good job of salvaging the situation. 👍 👍 👍

      As I said…sometimes “stuff” happens…it’s certainly not the end of the world, and I decided that in full disclosure, to show that it indeed can happen to us all, from any manufacturer…no one from Firefly is hand picking guitars to send to me to review. Truly appreciate your stopping into the channel…much thanks! 🎸👍
