I have spent days looking at videos of sewing room organization! They all seem to be for quilters! So thank you!!! I ripped apart my sewing room two nights ago. My UFO's are.... well we wont talk about them. I tried to buy all the patterns from Tamotsu. I will be counting my patterns next week when I move them into a filing cabinet. I will be so excited IF I have fewer than 500. Thank you for the New Vintage Lady recommendation. Look forward to a binge on your channel this evening.
You're welcome and thanks for watching! Glad other people like watching these types of vids, too. Quilters are in a league of their own. I don't do a lot of quilting but I gotta admit they have the best sewing tools! Good luck with your pattern filing and organization
I'm currently binging your videos, having only recently found your chanel (blame Melissa's involvement in the Little Women colab), and just wanted to jump in here to say that I really enjoy this sort of video - I'm a NOSEy person and I love seeing how others organise their sewing/crafting spaces, supplies (and homes in general). My patterns are divided into two batches One is clothes and costumes, in plastic crates in an overstuffed cupboard in my sewing room (different crates for mens, womens, and children's (largely costume with a few modern clothing items scattered throughout) , the other is doll and toymaking patterns in their own series of crates in the spare bedroom - because something had to go or the sewing room would burst at the seams, and the wall-of-dolls-clothes and overflow doll display is also housed in the spare bedroom, so moving the doll-sewing patterns there kind of made sense (and the spare bedroom used to double as the sewing room before we built the current sewing room (my husband is also a historical costumer so we really needed a better sewing space)).
I loved how you said how many patterns your top shelf could hold. I moved 4 wars ago and had to have my sewing machine fixed... and it was send away at the beginning of the Pandemic...so it was held up in San Antonio for a few months, JUST as I started on my Historical sewing quest. HAHA. I have now since gotten it back when things in TX reopened and I could physically drive 2.5 hours away again ( I have narcolepsy) and I have yet to use it. whoops. Ive been hand sewing for the Regency period I chose. My boyfriend is a bit perplexed and wonders why I even NEED a sewing machine?? When my daughter was little I did a ton of sewing for her - mostly Halloween costumes and toys etc... but she was very hands on with me and really didn't let me do much more than knit. So thank you for adding yourself to this wonderful costuming community with a wealth of information and personality. I subscribed after 2 videos, so please make more
Aww, thanks so much! I guess you don't *really* need a machine but it certainly speeds things up! Also, it's nice to see a fellow Texan running around costube :)
Dixie DIY I’d be running around TX too if I could, touching all the fabric and all the yarn... 🥰 but it’s time for school now and with this Pandemic and all, it lends one to be more of a shut in than usual. And it is interesting to see how many people are online that are in Texas. When I lived in Wisconsin I could never find anyone online. 😆
Truly fantastic shelves! Much better than all of my patterns dumped in a large plastic tote. I noticed you wearing a lovely yellow blouse. I have some vintage mustard cotton velvet that would love to live in your new open drawers. But not a drawer of shame. LOL
For now my patterns are kind of by category and then put into baskets and plastic storage boxes. I can easily see the pattern front and then go to whichever one I want. I have cabinets above my 12 ft closet, so I put stash up there, once its finally washed and folded. Still working an folding it up. I saw a foldable sewing table in a book by Ana White, my plan is to rework the height and have it for a cutting table. When folded up, it takes up very little work.
I LOVE your pattern shelf! I'm super impressed you made it and hung it yourself! I have three full ancient cardboard pattern boxes from JoAnn. When I took up sewing again last year and began buying patterns again as well, I put a small three shelf bookshelf from my teen years on my long sewing table. I love having them at hand for browsing through for reference, planning, comparing, and just plain daydreaming! 😍
@@DixieDIY Memories are great - when they work - but watch out! Life has a nasty habit of taking away things and super-powers we reaaalllllyyyyyyy need the most!
I have file cabinets in my sewing room for fabric and patterns. Because filing cabinets are meant to take the weight of lots of paper, it works for fabric too!
I think you have a bigger collection of patterns than my local fabric store 😅 I can't imagine owning so many patterns. But then I also just got into sowing clothes, so who knows what it will look like in a few years...
I am so glad that I am not the only person with multiple "drawers of shame".
I suspect we're not alone in that...
Why would I do something so logical.... I totally understand that feeling. I love your sewing room!
hahaha thanks!!

I will definitely check out that pattern company and thank you for being an Ally. Oh and I love to see a woman handling power tools!!
Thank you so much! Yeah, that company has some pretty fun designs

"Not a drawer of shame" hahahahahaha! I would gladly take any or all of your wonderful fabric collection!

Thanks so much! Having the patterns close at hand sounds useful and inspiring!
“I can easily remember”...........I can’t. I’m constantly surprised when I flick through them 🤪
lol if I had more of them it would probably be harder to remember. I guess I'm still under the 'remember' threshold... for now

Filing cabinets are a good idea!
This is a much easier way of storing pdf patterns haha I make little envelopes with washi tape, mostly to justify the sheer amount of washi I own
That is an excellent use of washi tapes!

Give it a couple years ;) I've been sewing since high school so I've had lots of time to accumulate them lol
It turned so out great! I can’t wait to have the space to have a dedicate sewing room again, you just gave me so many ideas!
Thanks, I did the dining room table set-up for years so I feel very lucky to have a dedicated space.
instablaster...
I always start the organisation with good intentions but the last few boxes / shelves always end up as "misc." and "more misc."!
lol I probably have more "misc" boxes/drawers/shelves than not!
❤️
