    I will always be a Mark Levinson fan (Check out the No.40), that being said Krell makes stunning products. I could never understand why the company almost went belly up. I believe Krell is now run by Walter Schofield previously from Harman International. I really wish them all the best with their new line of products.

    Thanks for this video I was on the edge of buying the krell showcase pre amp!! Without a doubt I’ll be purchasing it. It will be mainly for two channel listening but it sure will be the upgrade from my rotel preamp.

      @@TheAudioCouple hi, thank you very much for the review of krell 707. would you pls comment about the two channel analog pre-amp of 707, how it compare to mark levinson 326 or 380s? thanks a lot.

    • @TheAudioCouple
      @TheAudioCouple  4 года назад

      @@perrywu8552 Hi Perry. Thank you for your inquiry. All the pre-amplifiers (ML 326, 380S and Krell Evo-707) are state of the art (extremely high performance), so when it comes to sound quality it is more around personal preference. My preference is more towards the Krell Evo-707 in both stereo and surround more. The Krell has more authority across the entire frequency spectrum with the sound never being compressed. Not that the ML's sound compressed, but the Krell provides more of everything. Weight, speed, authority, finesse (when it is deeded) and dynamics. You cant go wrong with any of these pre-amps, but if you need or want a pre-amp better than wow - then the Evo-707 will be my preference and or recommendation.

    Great video! I might have a chance to get a S1200U. How is the sound of the 2-channel listening of the S1200U in relation to a pure 2-channel preamp? Also, how good is the internal DAC?
    Thanks in advance.

    • @TheAudioCouple
      @TheAudioCouple  2 года назад +1

      Hi Andrew thank you for the feedback much appreciated! Yes go for it, it is really an excellent unit. 2 channel audio performance is up their with some of the best solid state stereo pre-amplifiers. Highly recommend. Internal DAC(s) are from ESS the Sabre range, again also highly recommended. All in all you will get excellent performance and value from the S1200U !

      @@TheAudioCouple thanks for the reply. Just one more question: in term of 2-channel listening. How do you compare s1200u with HTS? Thanks

    • @TheAudioCouple
      @TheAudioCouple  2 года назад +1

      @@andrewchung9960 hi again Andrew. Yes yet again a very good question. The HTS has an overall warmer sound signature than the S1200U, however the S-1200U still possess the Krell solid bass foundation. It is a difficult choice between the two, because both offer such excellent sounds performance in (both) two channel and mult-channel modes. In summary I would say overall the S-1200U offer a slightly cleaner sound palette in comparison to the HTS.

    • @cinepaulis
      @cinepaulis 2 года назад

      Hi Andrew,
      Did you get the S1200 ?
      If so, do you like it ?
      I've bought one second hand about 6 months ago and I'm still very happy with it and I don't miss the sound of the Lexicon MC12 (which I enjoyed for many years, by the way) as the Krell S1200 sounds significantly better in both stereo and multi-channel.
      I'm using a Pass Labs X350 stereo power amp and DIY clones of the Avalon Opus Ceramique speakers and listen with great joy to all sorts of music, from classical orchestral, to old and modern jazz, electronic music. The Krell is quite detailed, while not shoving it in your face. It can create a good depth and width in the stereo image, as well as tight and textured bass and sweet treble and a seductive lush and open mid-range.
      As mentioned by The Audio Couple, the output stages (operating in class A) make a huge difference and give you serious high end sound, in both 2ch and multi-channel.
      Especially for the money of a 2nd hand unit, you really cannot go wrong with this one and it can play it's tune in high end systems. Highly recommended.

      @@cinepaulis I got the S1200U and I like it very much. The multi-channel experience in HT is simply amazing. While the 2 channel listening is very good, I’m sure how it compares with a pure 2-channel preamp. I’m contemplating about getting a 2 channel preamp as it accounts for 70% of my listening ( mainly orchestral classical music)

    I just bought a Krell Showcase Preamp for $180, How does it compare to the Krell HTS as a stereo preamp? Thanks for the informative video.

    • @TheAudioCouple
      @TheAudioCouple  3 года назад

      Congratulations on your new Krell Showcase pre processor. What an absolute bargain. You will notice if you set the unit up in your system that immediately you will become aware of the Krell signature sound. You will have to live with the unit for a week or two to explore all the settings to fine tune the unit in your system. But in general the sound should be apparent and good from first impressions. Comparison with the HTS. I must be honest I never compared it with the HTS in a A/B type test...

    • @TheAudioCouple
      @TheAudioCouple  3 года назад

      but most comments related to the HTS confirms that it's audio performance is a step better than the Showcase. However first enjoy your new unit - it is a great product!!

      I unfortunately haven’t had time to listen to my new Krell. Plan on hooking it up in a couple days. I feel lucky to have gotten such a good price! Do you have any thoughts on the older Krell HTS 5.1? The older Krell gear seems to have better build quality inside and out than the newer stuff. How does it compare to your HTS 7.1? I appreciate you taking the time answering my questions. Thanks.

    • @TheAudioCouple
      @TheAudioCouple  3 года назад +1

      @@quinonezes86 I must admit from the sound quality pertaining to older and even the newer Krell units, they always sound amazing. Build quality on more recent units - seems as if it is less of a focus area though, but I think Krell is working on this. Related to the HTS 5.1 it is very close to the HTS 7.1 but if I was you - I will seek a HTS7.1...

      Hi Robert. Thank you for your inquiry. Yes there are many options available. You can consider Denon, Yamaha and Pioneer stereo components [Integrated amplifiers] with build-in DAC (optical Toslink inputs). Today you be able to even find some Valve (Tube) Integrated amplifiers with build in DAC's).
