    In my opinion, tonally the closest to a studio monitor in the hi-fi scene, then you can like it or not and look for something else according to your pleasure, but for those like me who were born in the 70s and grew up with speakers very close to monitors from the studio it's a godsend, greetings from Italy

    Hi Jay, I watch your chanel all the time and while your sysems are amazing they are not generaly to my taste, this time everything you said about TAD resonated with me so please do get them in to your lab, it would be super intersting to see how the speakers sound with your Boulder equipment as I can see in the videos they were using their own M700 reference amps which and to see if the naturalness of the sound you were getting is just down to the speakers on the synergy with their amps.
    Also my 300b amps are going this month and I will be replacing them with solid state

    TAD is to speakers what Leica is to cameras. TAD tries to not exaggerate or amplify anything artificially in order to recreate the original recording. It can be disturbing at the beginning because many speakers tend to impress in some specific areas to please some audiophiles. It's like some cameras which render the pictures with the sea more blue, the grass greener, .... and make things more beautiful but not real

    This is the typical Japanese answer:" a team effort" they always answer that and its to be expected. With all do respect, these are Andrew Jones speakers from design to look. Did the team help? Of course they did but at giving Andrew what he wanted. This is the typical concentric design which Andrew is known for and the patented béryllium vapor coating comes from TAD. Andrew worked for Kef way before he worked at TAD. They didn't bring him in on a 100K speaker for a little input. Anybody who has Jones speakers recognizes the look and sound of Andrew Jones speakers. Extremely coherent comes up all the time with not too much of any one thing and spectacular imaging. This is the Andrew Jones sound. Did they modify them with time? Yes, a little but not much. They look almost exactly the same because they new they had a winner on their hands. This is a very slightly improved Andrew Jones speaker, period.

    I would truly love to see the „smaller“ high end TAD speaker in your lab, i.e. the TAD-CR1TX.
    In terms of amplification, I’d be curious about the TAD amps driving these speakers and maybe even more so the McIntosh 901 amps, which are made for biamping and should be more than powerful enough to drive these speakers. This is a combination I can see myself with within this lifetime.

    Jay thanks for exposing your channel to some less than obvious examples of great speakers. However, there is very little substance to this interview. How big are they? What is the frequency response? Nominal impedance? Price? What associated equipment do they require? Bi-wireable? What are the drivers made of? Where could they be auditioned? Etc.

    Have not heard them before I know with car audio Pioneer speakers highly efficient but not the best sound compared to other brands like MB Quart, OZ audio, Infinity, etc. These speakers look interesting. My comment based on listening to lots of speakers is that the speaker height is concerning. I often find with mid body to upper third speakers the height of the soundstage is not great. It goes up about mid wall or so and then stops. Taller speakers like Monitor Audio Platinum 500 II's and Sonus Faber Aida have taller heights to bring the soundstage more expansive not just front to back but top to bottom.

  • @AudioheavenDenmark

    As I said.. Andrew has nothing to do with the latest version and only little to do with the original version. Don't know why people think Andrew Jones is the Man behind tad.

    • @philippelabrecque6658
      @philippelabrecque6658 Год назад

      He has everything to do with them Because he made them. He's not the man behind TAD, hes the man behind these speakers and anybody who knows Andrew knows he made these. The beryllium vapor coating comes from TAD. Hes known the world over for making these specific speakers. They have his concentric design and his typical sound. These are very slightly improved Andrew Jones speakers. Improved, not modified in any way, not even the look was modified. The spectacular imaging, extremely coherent sound are the typical comments made about Jones speakers. Hes known for exactly that, come on! This is easily verifiable stuff. Japanese people always answer that its a team effort, about any project in every circumstance. When Andrew started at KEF, then , it was a team effort, but not at TAD.

      @@philippelabrecque6658Andrew Jones mentions himself that the Mofi speakers were the first speakers he has designed for another company that didn’t have a house sound that he had to abide to.

    • @philippelabrecque6658
      @philippelabrecque6658 Год назад

      @@damonsbest Andrew Jones is known the world over for these specific speakers. You can still find videos on youtube where he presents his speakers. He made them with the help of the wonderful TAD team of course but these are Andrew Jones speakers. Dual concentric design as always. The house sound of TAD and Andrew coincide in general and is non over-bearing, just super- clean and precise and fast, same thing for Elacs in general. Andrew Jones added incredible ability and his typical super- imaging that he's known for to the mix and even critisizes himself for making this speaker a little too " look what i can do" in his interviews years after when he made the AF-61 for Elac ,he describes trying to keep the agility (of the reference one" )and adding a little sweetness to the mix. The Andrew Jones sound is always described that way and sometimes even too polite. He only makes concentric designs because of the coherence of sound and for super-imaging which is his greatest strength in my opinion. This imaging is described as "spooky" by some reviewers even. I owned 3 pairs of his designs and i can confirm. What was even better is that TAD were the only ones at that time who had a patented beryllium vapor coating technique for the drivers so the Andrew Jones sound was put on steroids and thats why Jay was so impressed. Andrew Jones remark for house sound is bizarre because Mofi asked him to make a speaker with powerfull bass, he said it himself, which is a constraint. He made that comment because Elac only makes AMT tweeters and at some point they forced him to make an AMT design but he was uneasy with that decision and it showed. The Audiophiliac even mentioned it. Andrew only makes concentric designs in higher end models. The Japanese liked the reference-1 so much that they only upgraded the fabric of the drivers and stiffer structure a little bit for new materials that are even better then what was available at the time. These speakers are exactly the same as the originals but maybe even faster and more precise with the new materials but they look exactly the same. They didn't make a whole new speaker they just upgraded it slightly from the inside. When Andrew talks about these speakers he says the speakers that "I made" not the speakers that the Japanese team and me made. He has them in his home of course.

      @ philippelabrecque6658 Thanks for all the insights. I think Andrew has the original Tad speaker at home, not R1 or CR1. When the MKII came out I read it was a color change of woofer because they couldn’t source the same materials, but sounded the same. Is there another driver change for the TX?
      Andrew did state the speaker he is most proud of is the CR1, which he confirmed to me. I’ve added Velodyne DD10+ subs and stat supertweeters to mine. If you’re ever in NYC stop by for a listen Triode pictures

      yes seriously…. It’s T.A.D even the distributor gets it wrong. Incidentally Andrew Jones was quoted as saying the speaker he is most proud of is the CR1, and I confirmed it with him. I’ve added Velodyne subs and stat supertweeters to mine to extend the bandwidth even further. Shame they have almost doubled in price since I bought mine. When I hear live acoustic music then come home to listen, you realize how close the tad gets.

    So, in a nutshell, they can’t name one difference specifically from the R1 to the R1 tx.

    • @johnnycashlesscomedy8616
      @johnnycashlesscomedy8616 8 месяцев назад

      I own the original CR1’s. I know the MKII was just a change in color for the woofer because they couldn’t source the exact formulation, but zero sonic difference. The TX I believe they did some changes in bracing, but not sure the sonic benefits.
