Every athlete is in a dark place at times. So, what I do is: Having overly negative thoughts or even feeling the urgent need to stop running, I say "stop" to myself. And I stop thinking about it. This seems too simple, but the negativity will fall off after some time. It will come back, just remember to shut off every negative thought with your mantra. Going on, say to yourself "I'm going to run to this tree or house keeping my running form and then we'll see." After you've reached the mark, repeat. Or you could do a kind of internal check of your body. Like listening into yourself. How are my arms moving? Are my shoulders relaxed? How do my core muscles work? How are my legs moving? How is my stride and cadence? How are my ankles working? Where are my feet touching the ground? At last, it helps running in a varied environment where you can just look at something. Like cows or a tree line or just anything to divert you from the pain. I hope this was helpful and sorry for the wall of text.
You're doing so great, Anna! I totally get that feeling of "It's a nice day, I'm in a pretty place, why can't I do this?!" These videos are so outrageously relatable, I love them. PS: geese are evil monsters.
That feeling of being almost constantly tired is so relatable. Also, my mates are not impressed when I ditch a Saturday night out with them so that I am in good shape to run the long run the next day. Not sure when running starting taking priority over a night out but I don’t regret it!
Believe me dude you won’t look back on things regretting ditching a Saturday night out blowing 100 quid and feeling cr4p the next day, but you will look back on the running achievements and be super proud 👍
Missing out on Saturday nights is disheartening. I treat myself to a Sunday night in the pub, but my local pubs are not particularly lively on Sabbath evenings and I used to do that as well as go out on a Saturday nights before I started marathon training. During long runs I spend a lot of time trying to figure out how to spend the money I am saving by not drinking on beer. If only Einstein had been a parkrunner and ale lover.
Omgoodness, yes!! I never got over being tired once I hit the halfway point in marathon training. Thankfully, all my friends are runners, so we never go out on Friday evenings. 😂
Every minute of this video was so so SO relatable, really appreciate you putting this out there Anna. I swear it's harder to show vulnerabilities on social media than pretend all is fine and dandy but you're doing SUCH an amazing job - both at your training and also sharing with us mere mortals that it's ok to struggle. LOVED this episode 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
This series is so great! Love that you show the real aspects and struggles of running and not only glamorous pictures and PBs.. must be quite challenging for all of you - and in this case Anna - to share that much with the public, but we really appreciate it!! Keep going, you're doing great! I live in Berlin and will be on the road on September 26th to cheer for you!
Came here to say pretty much that. I like the series and I love you show all the struggles along the way! Hope you got your Mojo back and the last 9 weeks go well.
Anna - full props and support to you. Last year at this time, I battled many of those negative emotions as I entered the last 8-10 weeks of training. I felt that I would never be able to run 20 miles at pace - much less on race day. I made a quiet decision to not get hung up on any specific day, no matter how deflating some of those workouts were. Imagine my surprise on race day, when I managed to beat my own PB for the marathon by 9 minutes AND beat my goal time by 4! If this middle-aged back-of-the-packer can exceed goals, then I know - am CERTAIN - that you can. Keep it up and kudos to you for showing vulnerability and real emotions on camera.
You are doing amazingly Anna! I wanted to give you a massive hug when you were struggling on your long 30k run. It's OK to have bad runs sometimes - and remember, the actual race will be your victory lap, the training is the tough part. Keep going!!xx
Thank you for showing the "realness" of Marathon training. It almost makes me want to do another one. I was able to complete one full marathon in 2013 and it was quite the experience. I did everything wrong, didn't train properly, not the proper shoes. I kind of want to try it again, doing all the things right. Realizing that other people have up's and down's with running, and it's not just me is very helpful. Thank you.
You're doing so well Anna, I know all those feels, including those long tearful runs. But they're right, your training isn't just one session, its the sum of all the parts. Plus, I hope the cooler weather now in our part of the world means you're getting a better night sleep and able to approach each day with more positive energy (the sleepless heat in the nights had me in an awful mood the last while!). You got this girlie!
Oh Anna, I just watched this and wanted to give you a hug. We’ve all been there, whether it’s 5k or a marathon we are training for. Self doubt is natural, especially when you are tired and you must be soooo tired. Keep it up, you’ve got this and you’re entertaining us at the same time, amazing!
Thanks for the update. Would have been so easy to edit out all the negative thoughts from the video so kudos to you for keeping it real! There can't be many many better people than Charlotte to give advice right now. Hope you get a good solid month of training in and I look forward to the next progress report
Keep going, I so know the feeling when it feels like a slog/negative mindset. I force myself to think of something else, maybe a work problem, something in the news whatever to point my brain away from the run for a little while. When I refocus on the run, marvel that I have gone another mile or minute or whatever. The little breaks get me through. Good luck routing for you, Berlin Marathon is on my bucket list, not this year but see you at the start line in the future!
the 430am mornings suck but then running in the evening heat sucks too! I found that when I'm in a bad head space and don't seem to be enjoying the training, I do an exercise that isn't running. Sometimes it's spin or some HIIT class where everyone doing it with you is hating it. But the best part is that you're with people pushing passed the struggle and everyone feels relieved to have finished, together!
Hi Anna, I’ve been training for my first 1/2 Marathon. Not that long back I had a really bad training week. Poor nutrition, not enuff rest etc. I was pretty hard on myself. The past 2 weeks have been better. I really like what Charlotte said about looking at your training as a whole not individual efforts. Additionally, training doesn’t count. We are allowed to mess up. That’s why they call it training. You are doing great! Team Anna!
Hang in there Anna. I've had so many bad runs leading up to a marathon and wonder how in the world I am gonna make it. Sometimes, you just don't have it for the day. I know I look at hydration / sleep and nutrition. Sometimes though it just isn't there. One thing you may want to consider -- particularly if this is fairly constant - is checking your iron / B-12 levels. Also keep in mind these temperatures have been very hot. 22C would be awesome here in the mountain west of the US. Our normal day time temps tend to be around 90 - 102F. Also what a treat to do a group track session. I think doing that would really motivate me to show up and get it done. Enjoyed the video and love your channel.
Anna you’re doing great. It’s not easy sharing all those difficult moments with all your RUclips followers but we do appreciate your openness. As many others have already said, it’s something most of us have been through at some stage. Use all the support you have around you and keep reminding yourself that we are all rooting for you.
Ah, those “wonderful“ conversations you have with yourself as you’re going. Sometimes I play the music louder. The neat thing is that the journey is a long one so you get try again and again. Many cheers for you Anna!!
The moment when you feel not ready enough is 100% relatable. Focusing on the process over the end goal and celebrating the progress of now vs however long ago is helpful for me. Waiting to acknowledge the small wins till the very end for one big one, is silly. Celebrate every week! Worrying is like a rocking chair. You do a lot of movement but you're not going anywhere. Lastly, try listening to a podcast or book on your long runs. They keep your mind focused on other things. Every so often I'll listen to funny ones and I'll be the weird runner randomly laughing. Best of luck! You've got this!
oh Anna! I had all the feels for you during this. Running is hard sometimes but i'm glad you ended the vid with a smile. Your apologising to the geese and saying thank you really made me chuckle (mostly cos that's what I do too! I apologise to sheep when i'm walking hills and they move out of my way, I always feel guilty) :D x
Anna if this helps... Sunday (1st August) I had a crappy run... It was suppose to be an easy run, but no matter how slowly I ran it felt hard. You get bad days and good ones. Remember every step you take makes you that little bit better. One step at a time. Keep at it!
Anna you got this!! We are all behind you. Recently I had a month of bad runs, it seriously damaged my mindset and I wanted to quit. So I decided to take a few days break and start from scratch again. Smashed both my 5k and 10k PB's already this month. Huge confidence booster and I'm back on it
Love your video Anna. You saw my post in the running channel Facebook group. I've been struggling too and found a short walk to eat or drink every mile worked wonders for me. It freshen my legs. I was hating my long runs to the point I didn't want to go and was negative as soon as I went out. I'm going to keep trying this as it really doesn't affect your time all that much. Good luck you're doing amazing and thank you for being so honest. Xx
Just now getting a chance to watch this-the negative head space is real! My long runs for my marathon have NOT been going as planned. Trying to hang in there, but the enthusiasm is waning....My first and only marathon.
I had a marathon coach for my last marathon. I refrained from asking for anything but daily updates i.e. the session day before the run. This worked well for me. Gave me (personally) enough time to plan and prepare. It was good to have structure like Anna's details here. Eating is key as is sleep and the infamous laundry cycle! Stay hydrated and trust the process! All the best to those running autumn marathons, you got this!
This was so nice to watch as a new runner i had a dreadful run yesterday on couch to 5k and i thought it must just not be for me but now seeing an experienced runner have a bad day too makes me feel more normal, right back on it next week.
Dear Ms. Anna, I do hear the frustration, disappointment, and discouragement in your voice. But you know what else I hear? Tenacity, and the self discipline needed to keep this up. This is, what, your 3rd + marathon? You don't need me to tell you this, but you have done it before, so you know you have what it takes to do it again. Additionally, thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for this video. I made the commitment literally 48 hours ago to run my first full marathon in November 2022. I glad to know training is not all rainbows and puppies. I know when I hit that part of my training, it will help to know I am not alone. Also, I would have turned around and called it a day with the geese. I don't do geese. Sincerely, Carmen
Running my first half marathon in less than two weeks, hoping to get a few more under my belt and then eventually I shall tackle the marathon. It is no easy feat but the satisfaction at the end of a great race is worth all the hard work, you got this! 👏 I love how tough minded and resilient most runners I know are, I swear we can get through just about anything when we put our minds to it
Thanks for your honesty in showing how tough training is. Sometimes it feels like social media portrays it as too easy. Watching this has made me feel like I'm not alone feeling the arduous nature of marathon training. Thanks again.
Hi Anna, I'm watching these series 1 year after it is posted up on RUclips and I want to say that your journey is infinitely relateable and the fact that you have shared this journey with us is tremendous. Thank you!
You can totally do this. I did the exact same jump recently - from 3:52:59 to 3:29:12. Keep trusting the training and getting the runs done. It is entirely possible 👍🏻
You're smashing it Anna! I believe in you - we all do 😊 I've just started out on the road to a half-marathon - your videos are helping inspire me to keep going!
You're such an inspiration Anna!! I'm training for a brutal 50k while working 2 jobs, about 55 hours a week. The husband and house are definitely being neglected at this point. I'm also an insomniac who averages 5-6 hours sleep a night... always tired, always stressed, but then I look at a life lived WITHOUT great challenges and realize... a cleaner house and a few extra hours relax time isn't a good trade for a life filled with a feeling of accomplishment and pride. My best motivation is running for time and giving myself permission to run slowly, to enjoy my runs more. You've got this, it'll all be worth it in Berlin!
Not to make this about me, but your timing of this video is so helpful. I had decided there was something seriously wrong with me because this entire week I have been having bad runs, I'm tired, and I'm emotional. So, thanks for reminding me this is normal. I love this series, and I am cheering for you!
Thank you, for putting yourself out there. Showing your emotions and the doubt that creeps into our self belief, and recovering from injuries. Very relatable, and gives inspiration to me as a runner, also getting over niggly injuries. Your series, and the Running Channel has also helped change the way l train. Keep up the good work.
I'm training for the Brighton marathon and it's nice to actually find a real video on YT that details the highs and lows of running 👌🏻 Keep up the good work Anna 💪🏻
It is so nice to see everything that goes into your journey toward hitting this BQ! And that you are not shying away from the entire range of emotions that can happen. I absolutely love following you along! You are doing a fantastic job! And you have an amazing community cheering for you! Let’s go Anna!!
The farthest distance I have trained for is a half-marathon and my running buddy would usually join me for the last 8-10k on every long run. So I was really lucky; I always looked forward to her moral support. Training for a full marathon alone must take a lot of guts! Fair play to you. Do you have a running buddy who might join you for part of your long runs? I am assuming that running with someone would give you a boost, as it did for me. I am 'in your corner'. My best wishes to you.
You're doing really well Anna, keep it up. I always find running in circles such as doing laps of a lake is much harder because you always know how much further you have to go which is mentally exhausting.
Thanks Anna. You are a constant inspiration. You have the encouragement of thousands helping you along. I know you will give it your absolute best shot and am sure that will get you to Boston. I am meant to be training for a local half marathon in September. I had been doing well and was on track for a good time, but have just lost three weeks through illness. I’m hoping to get back into running over the next week or so, but feel that there is a big hill climb.
Well done Anna! I'm sure we've all had those rubbish long runs I know I defineily did on sunday! Was tired, got a hole in my sock half way and then also got soaked, to top it off I now have a niggle in my foot, I felt so defeated. It's so good to see a realistic journey that shows the highs and lows because there are definitely both!
I have to remind myself when I'm tired that I won't have the days before tiring me on race day sometimes too. First time I did a proper training plan I didn't know where my speed would come from over the distance but it was there on the day, just have to trust your training plan. The coach who put it together for you knows what he's doing. For long run I usually have something to see as I run along, e.g. last Sunday went down to a new park that opened recently I hadn't seen yet, so something to look forward to and something else to think about. Know what you mean about being tired a lot. A sign you're doing it right! Keep going, you'll have bad and good days, you'll get there in the end!
Thank you so much for documenting your journey and I wish you well on marathon day. When you spoke of "bad" runs I think it's good to actually experience a few prior to the race day -when you get to race day you will be running faster and longer than you have in training so if you "hurt" or don't feel awesome the entire way you will know what that feels like and you will have the confidence you got through it before and can certainly persevere! Keep moving forward - you've got this!!
anna, you are so wonderful! your experiences and willingness to share the ups and downs makes you that much more lovable to all of us! when i’m struggling with negative thoughts i try to count my footfalls and ‘meditate’ to the numbers. the repetitive counting to whatever number i choose helps me to concentrate on something else. best of luck and keep your chin up!
I’ve got super discouraged at times with a total of three injuries since 2020, but I just tell myself that it’s not that bad and others have overcome much greater challenges and so can I.
Just ran my first marathon yesterday and it was amazing!!! huge thanks to Anna and the team for setting up this amazing channel! And this video is soo relatable!!
Anna.... You are truly a motivation for myself personally. You are an amazing runner and athlete and I'm in awe of you. I could never have the qualifying time for Boston being an average runner so do it for me too! You got this!!!
first of all, the sheer courage of pursuing that goal; second, showing the ups and downs of the training; you've got this Anna, and remember - don't put too much pressure on 'I will disappoint all these people' - we are cheering you on despite the results, and we know you can do it. even if, by some misfortune you won't, we won't certainly think less of you! stay you all the way!!!
Really appreciate the honesty in this video, really nice to be able to relate to someone (none of my friends are runners!), it's what I love about this channel. Good luck with the rest of your training Anna!
Go, Anna! This series of yours is my favorite on the Running Channel. Somehow you manage to be inspirational yet totally relatable. Can't wait to see the next episode in your journey!
Well done Anna! For sure it's not all about building physical strength but mental strength too, you're doing a great job. As others have said, this series is excellent. I find your updates on routine, diet and life balance really helpful. As you know I'm training for my first marathon at Chester. I am over my solius strain but now have a nagging achillies! An old injury come back to haunt me...🤕 I've had a week of rest, lots of heat and ice and am taking tentative steps onto the cross trainer to at least keep my legs turning over. Onwards and upwards! Good luck with the rest of your training 💪 🙌
It's so good to see the journey, all emotions and everything. It kinda feels like I'm training alongside Anna because I'm doing my training for the Indy marathon in November. The only difference is I'm in the first week with 13 more until race day. I like how Anna talked about her nutrition, which is so important because it's the fuel for training (and race day). Now a question....I know Anna did an episode about getting enough sleep, but how has the sleep changed during marathon training? Let's Go Anna!
You are going to be great. The hardest part of the marathon is getting to the start line. You have a bunch of time. So don’t be too hard on yourself. Keep believing.
Hey Anna, I have my very 1st Marathon in 3 days time!!! In training when im starting to feel negative I tell myself that its only temporary and those feeling will change and to stick with it. I think of the greats like Courtney Deaulter who embraces and loves the fact that she will be going into the "pain cave". I will call on stuff like this on race day. Good luck!!!
The fact is, barring an injury, you’re going to run a massive pb in your marathon and you will have had the privilege of experiencing what it’s like to have an entire team supporting and training you for this period. That’s a fantastic experience regardless of your eventual time.
You're doing amazingly Anna! Very familiar with the seemingly random runs that are just so tough, but if you can grind it out and get through it, it'll all come together on race day. Thank you for sharing your struggles and Charlotte's wisdom!
Oh Anna, I’m so super proud of you! I’ve never done a marathon myself and consider myself a very average runner, but even I know marathon training is no easy feat and as has been said, most of the game is mind over matter. Thank you for sharing this journey with us and for being vulnerable with it too. I’m really excited for this series and know you’ll absolutely crush every goal you set yourself 💪🏻❤️🌻
Thank you Anna for your honesty and vulnerability yet again. It's great to know that we all go through the same things, especially when we are running alone.
If I’m finding my long run hard wether that 10km or 35km, I always remind myself of two of mantras: ‘Run the km you’re in’ ‘It doesn’t matter how slow you go, so long as you keep going’
Anna, you are one inspirational lady. You set goals, and then do so much to achieve them, despite personal challenges. SO much respect for you, for sharing the trials and tribulations. Keep going. Never give up. You got this, and you are not alone. BTW... Ralph is a legend!
That heat wave week did exactly the same to me! Went from one weekend literally crusing to 24ish km to the following week, same run got to 10km and had to stop! Following weekend, temp cooled and ran 25km with plenty left in the tank! You've got this Anna!!
It’s all part of the process. In addition to running all the training sessions, you will learn to deal with negative thoughts. I have learned that learning to deal with negative thoughts IS actually an important part of learning to run a BQ. You already have a great mind set and wonderful team. I feel confident you have a good shot at this… we are all rooting for you.
You are doing great, as always . I’m training for my very first marathon (8 weeks out) and I get doubts and down days as I’m a full time shift worker and a parent to disabled child so finding time and energy is hard but I always think about people who can’t get to even try for a challenge like a marathon and I do lots of reframing the situation. So far I have a 100% record for trying my best and that’s all I can ask of myself. Thanks for the honesty and inspiration
Karen, thank you so much for your support! You're doing amazingly and doing your best is an absolutely brilliant outlook - thank you for sharing this! 😊
You got this Anna! One day one week at a time. I appreciated seeing the first time racing emotions, I am having my first in October with my upcoming marathon. I have been working at getting my routine down and being consistent. When I am in that negative mindset, taking something off the plate gives me breathing room
Thank you so much for this Anna, I love your honesty and how real you keep it. I can relate so much to everything you're feeling, but you are doing absolutely amazingly and I am loving keeping up with your progress. You've got this girl!
Hey Anna, keep up the great work! I am about 10 weeks away from the Melbourne Marathon here in Australia & most of our states are in some form of lockdown. I am finding it hard to push through 20 weeks of training when I may not be able to participate or the event may be cancelled at any time. Watching you & Sarah prepare for your marathons helps keep me motivated. Thanks for everything you do 😁
Anna, you are such an inspiration!!! 👏 I’m just wrapping up my half marathon training for our virtual run next weekend then heading in to full marathon training for Honolulu in December. Your running and nutrition tips are so helpful. I have a run buddy for most of my runs and we keep each other motivated and inspired. Happy trails, you got this! 📣 👏
Here we continue running alone, sad thing, so I ll try to encourage myself during the week training, but of course, seeing this channel cheer me up ! Keep on going! Berlin is waiting for you!
It's great to see you running regularly again on this channel again Anna! You're fantastic and I'm sure you'll smash this! I can't train early in the morning, a coach told me it's something to do with blood sugars 🤷🏻♂️
Hey Anna, you'll do this. Trust yourself and the training, you can do it. It may not feel like it until you cross that finish line but you can. Go for it, we're all backing you on this and it's an inspiration for us all too!
So, this past Sunday which is 13 weeks until the Marine Corps Marathon, I ran 11 miles and felt like crap at mile three! I was really in a negative mind space, questioning my abilities and if I'm just wasting my time preparing for my first marathon. It took me two and a half hours and I walked almost half of it. My legs knees and feet were really sore, but I kept going. I was definitely not hydrated and I definitely felt it, but now I know for my next long run day that I need to hydrate properly at the day before and the day of. I'm still not 100% feeling like I'm doing the right thing but deep down I know I am. We can get through this!
Thanks for sharing this Tommy and sorry to hear you had a bad run. I'm sure the next one will be awesome! Keep your chin up and thanks so much for your support 😊
Anna I love you! 💪 You show your strengths and weaknesses of being human. That's why your so relatable and an inspiration! 💪 Well done and thank you for being you. Xx
You are an inspiration--thank you for being so real, open, and honest. I've had some mentally tough runs in my marathon training, but I like the advice of making sure your weeks are consistent instead of every run being perfect. You've got this! ❤🏃🏻♀️
I struggled massively on my long run on that day too. It was so hot all week and I think you did a fantastic job- I abandoned my run 2 miles early that day after stopping loads and know how you felt.
Anna!! You are doing a great job and I know you will have a successful marathon. I just wanted to let you know that I will run my first marathon ever here in Mexico in October. You are a great inspiration for me and you have a great impact in the runners community around the world (more than you think). Don't give up!! You are doing great!!
This video speaks to me Anna! Justin the beginning of my Boston Virtual training (the only way I'll ever get in) and having a rough go at things. You can do it! Keep on pushing for that goal!
i am catching up on my RC videos so hopefully after your Charlotte/Adidas session your next couple of weeks have gone well Anna. Keep up the great work and honest videos
Anna, we won't care if you manage to do the time or not. We just want you to fall in love with running again. Don't put the pressure on yourself; you're inspirational just for taking us on this journey.
great vlog Anna....its happens to all runners the totally s**t run, that's all the (fun)part of running, we brush ourselves down and we go for it again, that shows your mental strength not to quit after those type of runs, there will be days where you'll have all energy that the body can throw at you take advantage of those days, running is all in the mind, you'll do it , get yourself refocused and get those miles behind you..Berlin here you come..
Have you got any words of support for Anna? Or maybe you’ve had similar feelings during lockdown and the pandemic? Tell us in the comments below 👇
Just an IOU for a hug next time we meet. Although I realise now that of the 3 times we've met she's only been fully dressed once...
Second breakfast is the best part of an early morning long run!
Never mind geese, I once had horses running with me on a long run!
Always wear the one with three stripes 😃
Thank you Arielle! It's great to know we're not alone and we all experience these feelings of self doubt.
Haha yes to the geese! 😂
Geese are tasty snacks. 😁 Don't let them forget that.

LOVED this episode 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Came here to say pretty much that. I like the series and I love you show all the struggles along the way! Hope you got your Mojo back and the last 9 weeks go well.

This is very true, Rachel! Thank you 😊
Thank you for showing the "realness" of Marathon training. Thank you.
Thanks so much for watching Stephanie! You totally should do another one!
Thank you so much Laura 😊
Oh Anna, I just watched this and wanted to give you a hug. We’ve all been there, whether it’s 5k or a marathon we are training for. Self doubt is natural, especially when you are tired and you must be soooo tired.
Keep it up, you’ve got this and you’re entertaining us at the same time, amazing!
Thanks for the update. Would have been so easy to edit out all the negative thoughts from the video so kudos to you for keeping it real! There can't be many many better people than Charlotte to give advice right now. Hope you get a good solid month of training in and I look forward to the next progress report
Thanks Arron 😊
I've listened to the advice and made today 21k with 1k on and 1k off. It is an amazing session I will repeat every Monday!
That's a really helpful tip, Jason, thank you!
the 430am mornings suck but then running in the evening heat sucks too!
Thank you Anna for sharing your journey. The segment where you share your vulnerability was so identifiable - THANK YOU for being so "real!"
Anna if this helps... Sunday (1st August) I had a crappy run... It was suppose to be an easy run, but no matter how slowly I ran it felt hard. You get bad days and good ones. Remember every step you take makes you that little bit better. One step at a time. Keep at it!
You are all so inspiring at The Running Channel! You always make me feel better when I’m going through the “running funk” stages!
Anna you got this!! We are all behind you.
Recently I had a month of bad runs, it seriously damaged my mindset and I wanted to quit. So I decided to take a few days break and start from scratch again. Smashed both my 5k and 10k PB's already this month. Huge confidence booster and I'm back on it
Keep going Anna! i wish you all the best, i think this series so brave of you and the honesty of it is amazing
Xx
Thank you so much Warren! These are great tips 😊
Keep up the good work Anna. Your honesty in your run experience is a real inspiration for me. You can do it !
This was so nice to watch as a new runner i had a dreadful run yesterday on couch to 5k and i thought it must just not be for me but now seeing an experienced runner have a bad day too makes me feel more normal, right back on it next week.
I'm 4 weeks away from my first 10k in 23 yrs (my 2nd Running Life) and not feeling ready is part of the motivation to keep training!
Dear Ms. Anna,
I do hear the frustration, disappointment, and discouragement in your voice.
Sincerely,
Carmen
Running my first half marathon in less than two weeks, hoping to get a few more under my belt and then eventually I shall tackle the marathon. It is no easy feat but the satisfaction at the end of a great race is worth all the hard work, you got this! 👏 I love how tough minded and resilient most runners I know are, I swear we can get through just about anything when we put our minds to it
Thanks for your honesty in showing how tough training is. Sometimes it feels like social media portrays it as too easy. Watching this has made me feel like I'm not alone feeling the arduous nature of marathon training. Thanks again.
So glad to hear that Karamjit! Thanks for your support 😊
I believe in you - we all do 😊
I've just started out on the road to a half-marathon - your videos are helping inspire me to keep going!
Thanks Gareth! Good luck with your half marathon training 😊
Anna, I'm rooting for you! I am also running the Berlin marathon this year. Can't wait, I'm sure it's going to be amazing!
Thank you! Good luck to you too!
I'm training for the Brighton marathon and it's nice to actually find a real video on YT that details the highs and lows of running 👌🏻 Keep up the good work Anna 💪🏻
i love this series! its so inspirring! you got this anna, i am cheering you on!
Thank you so much!!
It is so nice to see everything that goes into your journey toward hitting this BQ! And that you are not shying away from the entire range of emotions that can happen.
I absolutely love following you along!
You are doing a fantastic job! And you have an amazing community cheering for you! Let’s go Anna!!
Thank you Ariel! Much appreciated 😊
Thank you Peter, appreciate your support. Sorry to hear you haven't been well. Good luck with your training 😊
Your doing great anna!!! Keep it going!! 🏃♀️🏃♀️ A food plan for a video is certainly an idea for your channel!! 🙂
Thank you so much Chris!
Go, Anna! Try re-watching your NYC marathon video...that's very inspirational and emotional. Keep up the good work!
That's really helpful, Mary. Thank you 😊
I’ve got super discouraged at times with a total of three injuries since 2020, but I just tell myself that it’s not that bad and others have overcome much greater challenges and so can I.
Just ran my first marathon yesterday and it was amazing!!! huge thanks to Anna and the team for setting up this amazing channel! And this video is soo relatable!!
How brave you are girl for recording the lows with the highs!!! You are my hero!!! -Your Fan From the USA
Thank you very much Jozsef!
Really appreciate the honesty in this video, really nice to be able to relate to someone (none of my friends are runners!), it's what I love about this channel. Good luck with the rest of your training Anna!
Fair play Anna. Interesting to see how an accomplished runner feels about a challenge. Keep up the great work and thanks for the video.
Go, Anna! This series of yours is my favorite on the Running Channel. Somehow you manage to be inspirational yet totally relatable. Can't wait to see the next episode in your journey!
Wow, thank you! 😊
You’re doing great Anna! Your such an inspiration! Keep going!
Thank you so much!!
An old injury come back to haunt me...🤕
I've had a week of rest, lots of heat and ice and am taking tentative steps onto the cross trainer to at least keep my legs turning over. Onwards and upwards! Good luck with the rest of your training 💪 🙌
Thanks Marco! Much appreciated! Hope your achilles heals soon 🤞
Thanks Keyo! And thanks for the suggestion about sleep 😊
Thank you for showing the hard parts of marathon training! You can do this Anna 😁
Thank you 😊
Thank you Anna for your honesty and vulnerability yet again. It's great to know that we all go through the same things, especially when we are running alone.
If I’m finding my long run hard wether that 10km or 35km, I always remind myself of two of mantras:
‘Run the km you’re in’
‘It doesn’t matter how slow you go, so long as you keep going’
Anna, you are one inspirational lady. You set goals, and then do so much to achieve them, despite personal challenges. SO much respect for you, for sharing the trials and tribulations. Keep going. Never give up. You got this, and you are not alone. BTW... Ralph is a legend!
Thank you Tony! 😊
Thanks so much Gabrielle! 😊
Thanks for everything you do 😁
Thank you Michael! Really hope you can run your marathon after all that training 🤞
I really enjoy these vlog style videos best, keep up the good work!
Cute pup, and great vid! Thanks. All the races came back in the US so we are going to have a busy race season.
Thanks for watching Susan. Wow, a marathon in Honolulu sounds like bliss! Hope your training goes well 💪
Here we continue running alone, sad thing, so I ll try to encourage myself during the week training, but of course, seeing this channel cheer me up ! Keep on going! Berlin is waiting for you!
So glad we were able to cheer you up! Thanks so much for your encouragement 😊
:)
It's great to see you running regularly again on this channel again Anna! You're fantastic and I'm sure you'll smash this!
I can't train early in the morning, a coach told me it's something to do with blood sugars 🤷🏻♂️
Thank you for being vulnerable and sharing ur frustration! I’m currently training for the Madrid Marathon in September and I feel the same way.
Thank you Joel! Good luck with your training for Madrid!
Hey Anna, you'll do this. Trust yourself and the training, you can do it. It may not feel like it until you cross that finish line but you can.
Go for it, we're all backing you on this and it's an inspiration for us all too!
Thanks for your support Gareth!
Thanks so much 😊
I run round Draycote too as it’s 5 miles each lap. It’s hard, that open wall goes on FOREVER! keep plugging away Anna. U got this!
I struggled massively on my long run on that day too. It was so hot all week and I think you did a fantastic job- I abandoned my run 2 miles early that day after stopping loads and know how you felt.
Thanks for your support Daniel. Gosh it was hot, wasn't it?! Well done for persevering with your run!
I too cut my long run short that day, the heat was unbearable!
Loved this video! Adore your commentary Anna, super authentic. Good luck! We're all routing for you 😊
Well done Anna! It's great to hear from a runner that we can relate too. You're awesome, keep it up.
i am catching up on my RC videos so hopefully after your Charlotte/Adidas session your next couple of weeks have gone well Anna. Keep up the great work and honest videos
Thanks so much for your support 😊
Anna, we won't care if you manage to do the time or not. We just want you to fall in love with running again. Don't put the pressure on yourself; you're inspirational just for taking us on this journey.
Thank you so much for these lovely words of encouragement - they're much appreciated 😊
great vlog Anna....its happens to all runners the totally s**t run, that's all the (fun)part of running, we brush ourselves down and we go for it again, that shows your mental strength not to quit after those type of runs, there will be days where you'll have all energy that the body can throw at you take advantage of those days, running is all in the mind, you'll do it , get yourself refocused and get those miles behind you..Berlin here you come..
Keep going. Definitely can overlook the glass chopping board as the Peri Peri chicken looked great, Charlotte will love it.
