Bushcraft Canoe Trip in Sweden. Part Three - The Island

- In this video series, Andy (Kent Survival) and I head off to the Swedish Wilderness for a five day canoeing and bushcraft adventure inspired by Dave Bliss’ book ‘Paddles and Polar Bread’. Paddling along the massive lake Stora Le, we experience all the weather Sweden can throw at us, from glorious sunshine, to snow and strong winds whipping the lake up into a raging turmoil of waves and spray. We take all our equipment and food with us in our aluminium Linder canoes and camp in Dano huts or wild camp along the way.
This video is episode three - after an unexpected rest day while Andy recovered from illness, we get up ready to press on towards our next camp spot. Heading northwards up the lake and then out across the growingly choppy lake to a stunning thickly wooded island and our Dano hut. We set up our shelters near the hut and head off to explore our new home. Firewood collection, prep and dinner lead on to an evening of enjoying wine and good company. My head may regret it in the morning!
I hope you enjoy the video and please tune in for the final episode.
Thanks for watching!

Good steady water in those coves to put in with.
Check out the upside down fire. Great fire method you don't really have to mess with once you get it going !
At 17:43 Simon squeals "SQUEEZY CHEESE!!!" Thats my new text message ringtone! Bloody loved this adventure! Thank you both! 🙂
Thanks for taking care of Andy. Subscribed for friendship.
Thank you! 😁
Agreed. Good friend.
Great video, great music. Loved it all. Thanks
Andy's little dance never ceases to make me laugh
That's why those aluminum canoes have holes in them, rocks. People paddle at raming speed into the shore of rocks. Simon, an idea for you. Bring a mesh bag along and you can hang dry your dishes after washing them.
Simon, I probably don’t have to remind you two that a big issue for Andy is dehydration. So, doing all you can to help him hydrate will help him recover. Now, his stomach needs to proceed gently, breads, rice, oatmeal, and tea. If you have bananas and cheese they are good. Stay away from things difficult to digest, meats, nuts, sausages, and beans. I know this is late; but, please put this in your bag of tools. Texas
Thanks mate! Yes, rehydration and rest were the order of the day, followed by vitamin c - he remained cautious with what he ate and drank for a couple of days after!! 👍😁 Thanks for the tips mate.
Awwww poor Andy. So pleased you're on the mend. Horrible being ill, especially when you're not at home. All the best😊
very happy the trip is going well for you simon and andy great video thank you from new brunswick Canada 🌲🇨🇦🌲
Big up Canada 🇨🇦 👍👍. Now other countries to get your Bushcraft skills topd off 😝
great stuff guys! i watch you both and this is good viewing.
Thanks Steve! 👍
Nice film ! Thanks !
Great trip guys 👍👍
Simon you and Andy should do a capsize video showing the best things to do in that advent. Andy would love to know I recommend this video involving him having to get soaked two or three times in a row. Haha another great instalment 👍🏻
oi! hahaha, i vote for Simon taking the plunge
Kent Survival haha ok dude you might get sick again 👍🏻
Andy first!! Actually, he very nearly did end up in the lake! 😂😂😂
Thank you for sharing your adventures. You and Andy make a really awesome team. Please keep up the good work and stay safe. Cheers from Denmark :)
only the brave, drink a carton of skull juice.. really enjoying this mini series,,, ... and also concur with counter debate , about uk river use ... Thanks again Simon... oh and music great as usual... reminds me of that Bravia Oled tv ad from the 90's
😂😂😂 that takes me back! 👍
I thought I snored until I heard Andy - glad he was able to continue his adventure after his illness.
This is so much like northern Ontario here in Canada. lovely
Lois Wilson - That's so true!
Another one thank you sir simon. Youre smile says it all. Good to see you two back in the water.
Love how Andy tries to do silly things in your vlog🤣😂😅😆😁
Part 3 just as great as previous 2 parts ... What an amazing place ... Thoroughly enjoining this Simon looking forward too part 4 👍👍👍
Fantastic Video. Glad Andy is feeling better. The incredible thing is, is that if I showed your video to my brother in law ( Who was an outfitter in the BWCA and made literally hundreds of trips there), he would swear this was the Boundary Waters Canoe Area in Minnesota. They look identical even the rocks and trees. I think that the similar weather and terrain is one of the reasons that my wives family and my family moved here. She is Swedish and I am Norwegian.
Home from home! I must visit Minnesota one day. 👍
1 thing to admire, you don't leave your buddy behind, always stay together if one of you get into trouble.....Thomas, Denmark
Thank you , Simon .
🐺Loupis Canis .
Awesome! I always feel like I'm right along side you. Outstanding video! There's something exciting about camping on an island isn't there. Great job Simon.
Would be great to see more videos from you and Andy maybe going up and down the rivers in the uk with a bit of stealth camping on the side😎
Twist my arm......oh, go on then!! 😁🛶
@@simonablokeinthewoods Fantastic, can't wait, hopefully this coming weekends weather good too :)

Looks great! Especially from my armchair in front of the fireplace with a dog in my lap!! And a cup of fresh coffee. It's all good.
Great stuff! My favourite thing about this vid? It could be Simon’s great videography? Nah, it’s Andy’s epic photo bombing extravaganza! Lol!
😂😂😁
😆Ditto! Just paused from laughing and went looking for this comment. He's still ill, but not gonna pass up on such prime photobomb action. This pair is like watching a good sitcom

7,341 views in 4 days, this is rapidly becoming a very popular channel. And also my new favourite channel, keep up the good adventures.
Thank you! 👍😁
This is exactly like Newfoundland Canada , trips like this with friends are the best with beautiful sights and the peacefulness of nature no cars/traffic sounds sirens blaring etc pure bliss ❤️. Love doing this and do bit of fishing and cook it up on an open fire nothin like fresh fish dipped in flour and fried in butter in a cast iron pan on an open fire.
Great trip guys
Loved ur vids
Really enjoyed them
Cheers
👍👍👍👍
Hey Simon, saw the shot of ur camera..please do a segment on ur vid/sound equipment..please..
Great video. Ive enjoyed watching you and Andy on this trip. Thanks for sharing!
Good to see someone else using the back of their folded Opinel to strike the firesteel with. Compact and safe.
Thought the island was brilliant , and the camp fire hard to beat looking forward to seeing part four ! 🔥

So glad Andy got better,i fully know only too well about sudden illness, still ill now but hanging on,we must never take our health for granted, even if there's only a bit left, as in my case, long story, excellent adventure video, atb😊
Absolutely beautiful scenery! Thank goodness Andy is better, how awful for him to be ill. Take it easy don't want a set back!
Very good Simon, I’ve enjoyed all the videos 😊 I hope you and Andy had a great time, thanks for taking us along 👍🏻🔥
It's not nice feeling un well , when you should be enjoying yourself keep your chin up, great video Simon.
Thank you for taking us with you on your journey! 👍👍👍
hahaha, didn't realise how much I photobombed you.. I must have been feeling better :p a great watch mate and great memories
Good memories indeed matey! So when are we off on our next adventure? 😁
'The Loo With A View!' Thanks for showing more of camp life in this one: doing dishes, equipment and so on, is valuable to see and not often videotaped. I have had a bit of trouble getting my head around those fajita wraps: they look for all the world like styrofoam boats.
Haha - they do don’t they! Soft taco shells. 👍
Great adventure . Good to see Andy back up and at em . Part 4 looks a bit of an epic .
Hey Andy so glad you are feeling better and you got the hang of the paddling now both of you are in such beautiful place. ,, thanks for taking us with you
loving the series. Thank you for filming such lovely scenes. Cheers Rich
Sorry I’ve not given you my approval thus far Captain, but I’ve been proper busy. Very good stuff! Is it weird that I get a deep sense of satisfaction from a stack of uniformly sawn firewood? And I love the way your camera goes out of focus when you’re drunk, it adds to your inebriation.
Splice the mainbrace.
Hahaha - yeah, that was weirdly apt!
As for the firewood, we’ll, when in Sweden......
Thank you mate!
Simon, a bloke in the woods
Take care pal. Coming to Norfolk next year for a wedding, but I’ll give you plenty of notice to vacate the county.
Yet another damn fine video Simon .....
Hey I've noticed the nice woodpile you guys made for the night & left overs for the next camper who uses the cabin.. good camper karma ❤️
Good to see Andy up and about again, some epic photobombs there. And from Campolieti by the campfire to a cardboard sugar bomb must have been a massive plunge to a deeper darker pit of... a hotter place ;-) Looking forward to the finale. Cheers!
Excellent video again Simon beautiful over there i am glad to see Andy is feeling better!
great stuff great to see you drunk

Watching this on 12/25/19. Hoping when I get to part 4 you'll have rolled over to 40K. You're at 39.9K on this one.
Thanks mate! My subs seem to be going backwards at the moment! 🙄
Great video Simon. We spent a few nights on that island 2 years ago, but in the other DANO hut site. Fond memories. Keep them coming👍🏼
I've been enjoying bothe your guys vids on this trip. Good on ya both.
This red paint most houses in Sweden are painted with is made from "waste" from iron ore. It used to be quite inexpensive and it's very very good for wood protection, my parents have been using it for decades on their terrace furniture. I should have thought of that and advised you to bring a can or two back. The light yellow, I believe, is from the same raw material.
Nop, it is waste from Falun copper mine. Falun Mine, as part of the Falun World Heritage Site, UNESCO World Heritage Site and is considered so valuable that it is a concern of all humanity.
Thank you both for the informative. Where I live it is traditional to paint rendered housed pink - the original paint being made from pigs blood Year’s ago. 🤔
Great video Simon thanks for sharing 👍
I love Andy's micheivous side, you both remind me a bit of my brothers :)
So great to see you finish up your adventure! Glad Andy recovered enough to enjoy the rest of the trip. "I don't think we're in Kansas anymore Toto!" It's not the Waveny River is it! Simon, you are among only three or four others are who are my favorites for outdoor adventures . I,d love to hear a synopsis video of how You liked your Sweden adventure. Cheers to you and andy!
Thanks Maggie! The final part should be up in the next couple of days. 😁👍
Come have a trip to Oz, have a camping experience with us! Even tho I’m a pommy living over here now ha ha! We will feed you vegemite and Tim tams. Love the hot sauce and spices too! And love your channel of course :-D
Awesome vid and funny to boot. Love the way Andy keeps photo bombing you while you film. Ah swedish korv! so many choices all tasting the same hehe. ATB, Steve
Haha - cheers Steve! 👍🛶🇸🇪
So good to watch , relaxing, wonderful thank you Simon :) great as always
Nice one Simon, great series of vids, thanks for taking us along with you and Andy. I made a couple of trips many moons ago to Varmland, just north of you; smaller lakes (more portages!) but equally tranquil and impressive. atb
Varmland sounds nice - I don’t mind a portage. One for the list! 😁👍
Thanks again for a fine film Simon....it’s been good to learn of your prowess with alcohol too 👍🍺🍷😂
Haha - purely medicinal Stu! 😁🍷 (well, not sure about the ‘sugar skull!!)
Great video Simon, thanks for sharing :)
