Interesting that these owl families work best in the same way as human families, with a loving mom and dad in a monogamous, committed relationship. Fatherless homes are a real tragedy in so many ways 😔❤️🩹
Maternal instinct to protect her chicks is no doubt. A curious thing is her defensive action. Sharp claws are formidable weapon, but she missed every time a skua flying over. That makes me suspect if it's simply a deterrence without any intention of hooking it. In this footage, it looks like a miscalculated countermeasure.
The Snowy Owl (Nyctea scandiaca) is a species of true owl native to the North Pole, it is known for having white plumage, which helps it blend in with the snow, it is known to prey on lemmings, hares, and ground squirrels, it is the only extant species of the genus Nyctea and is one of the few true owl species that is known for diurnal activity.
@user-lq4ct6dr5m, owls are birds that constitute the order Strigiformes, they are split into two extant families: Tytonidae (Heart-Faced Owls) and Strigidae (True Owls), barn owls (genus Tyto) are the type genus of the heart-faced owl family.
Hi, I'm a zoologist, I can help with this. There are four main types of mating systems in nature, monogamy is one of them. You get into subtypes too, this particular subtype is called *_social monogamy,_* and it is most commonly seen among birds, owls included. DNA is one of the driving factors behind social monogamy, but not the only one. And yes, there is plenty of research regarding this. Social monogamy also ensures higher success rates of reproducing, because both parents raise the offspring. But I would say that success has more to do with the bond between the mated pair than just DNA, as there are instances of adoption of non-related chicks even in nature.
I love how the baby looks straight into the camera at 2:05 after devouring the lemming 🤣
"......Wot."
It's a threat
1:05 Giving the cameraman the side eye. 👀

Mom and dad are heroes ❤️.

So there are false owls ? I'll guess barn owls are one since the development of their chicks are quite different

Dad is an air force officer flying sorties!
And that owlet that looks like a demon is not something you want to stumble upon at night 🤣
My favorite owl.

That's due to inflation & taxation by the gov't to give handouts to 💩 races that keep overpopulating Western civilization.
Excellent video 😊
Sehr schön 🤠
Me on a Monday morning!
For anyone thinking of hedwig - hedwig is Male, because female snow owls are dark spotted as seen here.
Hedwig is female, but the owls who portrayed her in the movies were male. Male owls are smaller than females, and so they were easier to handle.
Good job
Keep em at home so they don't cheat lol
2000 lemmings in a year !!!! Do the kids take a year to be adults ??

Odd how mum and dad may not be the parents, the dad especially 🦉.
0:30 - Is their research that backs that in relation to owls specifically?
