    I don't know why more bigger cities don't use this method. The loaders turn tighter with the articulated steering, leaving behind less snow. Just use the big trucks for salting. The visibility in a loader is 10 times better than that of a plow truck. My hat's off to Ottawa, you guys do snow right.

      Available equipment, operators, and money to pay for both are the hurdles.

      @3516C I wish I could say that's true. I can tell you here in the states, that an operator with experience is only starting at $34,000 and change running state roads with state equipment. This trade has not caught up with other's yet. People can make more as a manager at a Taco Bell, warm and dry, with set hours.

      @Ram Tough the county I work for out operators make 70k. You example though, the guy makes 34, but his total compensation package with insurance etc is probably closer to 85k if not more. My county encompasses a major metropolitan area and we only have 3 loaders. We just replaced 2 and we looked at a plow/wing plow set up and it was 150k.

    They should send some of these operators to Buffalo. They could use some help. Anyways. Excellent operator in the perfect machine for plowing city streets.

    That’s how they plow large storms in the San Bernardino mountains Southern California. One thing different…..any car parked on the road is either towed or bermed in major! Sometimes they even hit cars or chew them up with an articulated snowblower!

    We don't get much or any snow here but I do enjoy watching snow moving. Odd to me that it seems like the drivers of the cars feel inconvenienced by the plow trucks

    • @larrymacdonald4241
      @larrymacdonald4241 Год назад +1

      No we are not allowed to use chains or studded tires on paved roads, chains on paved road have no traction anyway, the steel just slides on pavement when its wet.... chains really only work on dirt roads.. not to mention the cost of putting chains on those tires, then you have to pay a City mechanic to put the chains on and then take them off again.... I dunno maybe other places allow it but not in Ontario... besides, they changed the formula of asphalt about 20 years ago to contain more rubber, after they got caught in a price fixing scam .... which is why you cant drive on freshly paved roads anymore...

      @@larrymacdonald4241 here in Durham region we use chains on our trucks and we put them on ourselves. I just drive on to them and hook them up. I will be using them today due to freezing rain
