I know a game that's more divisive than it should be; Paper Mario: The Origami King. 1. Lots of people say Paper Mario is a dumb subseries that doesn't matter which is completely wrong. 2. Purists of the first 2 games say that it's either bad or good. Nah, I just think it's good. Great writing, real-time combat is great, and turn-based combat is good, if unrewarding. The boss fights are lots of fun and there's lots of stuff to do. Are there things I would change about it? Yes. But it has a good plot, good moment-to-moment gameplay, and a great presentation with the best soundtrack ever (seriously.). Way more divisive than it should be. With that being said, if the next game isn't like it, I won't be sad. Still prefer 64 and TTYD, which everyone should play. It and Super share a similar story, on different ends of the spectrum. Super was overshadowed by TTYD always, and it was too different and alienated the old fans. It's still a fantastic game, and probably better than TOK. The next 2 games after Super were... not what people wanted. Sticker Star is awful and perhaps one of the worst Nintendo games, and Color Splash is perhaps more divisive than TOK (chose TOK because its more interesting). TOK came out and gave us hope until the TTYD remake came, and looking back TOK is pretty good. Different than it's predecessors, for the better in contrast to Super. Death Stranding is one of my favorite games of all time and I think it's misunderstoon even by people that say it's a "chill" game. I think DS is the perfect mix of the game design philosophy behind games like Euro Truck Simulator or Elite Dangerous with automation games. To me Death Stranding is about optimizating deliveries to their max potential. It is a very chill game if you take 1 delivery and use zip lines to go from A to B, rinse and repeat. But if you take multiple deliveries at the same time it becomes a totally different experience and I would say it's not completely chill anymore. Now you can't load up everything on a bike, you can't carry everything on a zip line, you have to use a truck but if you can only carry everything in a truck, how do get past "X" section on the map with terrible terrain and a river in the middle? It becomes a game about preparation, problem solving and optimization. Then there are the challenge runs I like to make. Like for example, offline run, no roads. It becomes a Bear Grylls simulator, now you have to rely on stairs, ropes and zip lines for everything. Or maybe a "no escape from BTs run" which solves the biggest problem with DS IMO which is the fact that once BTs catch you it's very easy to shake them off and run, which is why in this challenge, once they catch you I HAVE to fight the big BT that spawns. Contrary to what a lot of people say, I don't just love DS because of it's story, I love the story but I adore the gameplay loop. I think it's very addicting and I would say definitely underrated.

In the case of Death Stranding, the thing is that I ended up dropping it due to the boredom I had trying to get all the stars in all the bases. The game is cool, but doing every mission can get really annoying and in the end feeling like a chore. If I go back to finishing the game I will focus myself on doing the story missions and a couple other secondary objectives.
The thing with Death Stranding is that it's about optimization. Now, I don't know if you did everything you could to optimize deliveries, maybe you did and still felt it was boring. But to me the most engaging part of the game was developing the infrastructure (roads, ladders to cross rivers and zip line network) to then pick up like 3 or 4 deliveries at once and execute the plan to a perfection. If you're just playing safe by picking up 1 delivery you're minimizing the amount of "problems" you might have to solve. To give an example, if you have 1 delivery to make you can just go from point A to B with ziplines and complete it in a minute, that can definitely become boring. But if you have 3 deliveries at the same time you can't use zip lines because you won't be able to carry everything, you'll need a truck, but if you're using a truck you're opening yourself to other problems that you might encounter. Unless... you plan ahead (and that's a big part of the fun) and place a truck on the other side of a zip line, make multiple zip line trips to carry everything and load on the truck you've placed before.
I love death stranding, the director's cut though. it's a masterpiece one-of-a-kind game, kinda like ico, sotc & tlg are. Amazing game. I also love the sonic series, to me, it's a top 25 series of all time. It may have alot of bad games but still has alot of great games. No way a series wit over 10 solid games and several of them being classics, divisive or a bad series no way. And i definietily love the last of us part 2, definietily the best game on this list and the ultimate game of 2020. I wasn't feelin the game back in 20 but as the yrs went on, it just kept growing wit the gamer. Game is an absolute masterpiece, maybe enough time hasn't passed yet but give it 10 - 20 more yrs and it'll be hailed as a universal masterpiece. Just like mgs2, which was controversial back in 01 but now...everyone loves it. Btw, i wouldn't put ff16 on here, that game isn't as divisive as ff12 and ahead. ff16 was widely hailed as the best ff game in yrs by fans so wruta? if anything u should've put ff13 on here instead. THAT game is far more divisive than ff16.
Skyward Sword is definitely an interesting case. The dungeons are mostly really good with two in particular being among the best in the entire series. I really dug the story, characters, art style, and sound design. The motion controls were also (mostly) responsive. But it's really brought down by constant backtracking, limited exploration, and a padded runtime that repeatedly forces you to collect things to get to the next dungeon. A great game, but yeah definitely the worst 3D Zelda.
Man, I really wish Naughty Dog took the route Sucker Punch is taking with Ghost and made TLoU2 with a whole new cast of characters and story. The ending to TLoU Pt 1 was perfect from a story perspective and we got a sequel that, in my opinion, story wise was just badly paced, depressing and an overly done revenge tale. Of course that's just my opinion, which is why this game is indeed divisive, but the story is what really hooked me and I just couldn't make it through the story in the second game despite the gameplay being fantastic. Would've loved to stay in the same world but be introduced to a whole new dilemma and set of characters. Just my opinion, but great video!
Friday night funkin and minecraft dungeons have to be the most divisive games i like. Like dear god it seems that peoples’ opinions on those games change every day😂
This might be a weird one but I couldn't play BioShock infinite because it made me feel very sick anytime id play it for more than 15 minutes. Never before or since has a game made me feel like I am going to throw up if I continue to play it.
As a diehard Final Fantasy fan I agree with 16. I really loved it, but it's not something that sticks with me in the same way. It's not a game where I would play through it again just to exist in its world, unlike so many other games in the series. It felt very generic dark fantasy and I felt like they were trying to do game of thrones.
Death Stranding is divisive even in my own brain; I really didn't like Sam, I don't like anything combat related/stealth related (besides the battlefield bit that was fine cuz it was goofy fun), a large portion of the dialogue was cringe and or pretentious- basically anything that wasn't just literally walking I didn't like. Which brings me to what I usually tell people, it's not a good game IMO, but *can* be a really good experience. The environments were all beautiful, the music was basically all hitters (and whenever it played/the camera panned out was some of the best parts of the game) and there were actually a handful of characters I did like. My playthrough was mostly at night when I was just trying to chill out, and for a good portion of my time playing, it did exactly what I wanted it to
Do these other games count as having a lukewarm to average reception: - Super Mario Sunshine (difficult missions, or hard to collect items) - PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale (missed potential for a Sony Crossover game) - Donkey Kong Country 3 (late SNES release, bland main character, dull music) - Super Paper Mario (too different from the previous PM games) - Super Smash Bros. Brawl (broken character, bad presentation, lame movesets, boring Adventure) - Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge (too short and very easy, bland NPCs)
Can you please do a top games with the best boss battles? I don't mean a top of the best bossfights, I mean a top of the games that have the best bosses within them, mostly because that is probably what I enjoy the most in games and there are only 2 videos in RUclips that do the top I'm talking about everybody else does top best bosses but that's spoilers stuff and not the same
@@TotallyTubularJonathan Some personal recommendations for the tierlist (though there are definitely more): Most Soulslikes, God of War 3, Hollow Knight, Cuphead, Terraria (and Calamity mod) and Shadow of the Colossus
20:38 Security Breach seems to be the most divisive cause half of the fanbase seem to love it and the other half hate it cause it’s childish and overall isn’t good
Listen bro, I don't know much about divisive games because I don't follow the news all that much. However I think Starfield was somewhat divisive and I was divided myself tbh, I mean as a long time Bethesda fan spending probably thousands of hours on their games I was quite pissed. Then on the other hand I did enjoy my time with it overall, it could have been better, it had a lack of personality and it was repetitive without giving much sense of purpose. However I am not regretting playing it, it was a good but not great game, it was different and it was really not that bad. Thanks! ❤
@@TotallyTubularJonathan Jesus bro, I kinda did the same. I played 76 after Starfield for around 100 hours, I quite liked it at first and finally ended up hating it with all my heart lol.
Pretentious story and ending. Mediocre shooting with damage sponge enemies. Substantially worse and brain dead compared to Bioshock 1 and 2 and System Shock. Once the plot shock wears off you realize the game is just bad. Then you'll realize the story was pretty bad as well. Then you'll go back and play System Shock 2 again just to have something actually good to play while wondering "htf did we come so far down from this?"
It’s one of those games that definitely has been reevaluated by some. Personally, I didn’t like the gameplay loop and location nearly as much as 1 and 2, but I understand why people like it.
Dragon Age 2 & Inquisition are very divisive games. People who started their journey with DA: Origins hate the other 2 and then people who haven't touched Origins tend to enjoy Inquisition and 2. I personally I'm somewhere in the middle. Both versions of DA are fun overall. NMH3 was pretty divisive amongst fans as far as i know. Personally aside the combat being the most tedious in the series i think it was decent. Deatn Stranding is obviously a no brainer. It's very misunderstood. If you can accept atmosphere and feel over combat depth i think you're gonna love it. I'm a combat junkie but i absolutely fell in love with D.Stranding. Yakuza 3 & 6 for obvious reasons. I think 3 is not just divisive but completely underrated.
I started with Dragon Age Origins but never really got the Baldur's Gate 2 "spiritual successor" accolades it got. It's a very well executed game but I would say it's overrated, especially when compared to BG2. After replaying 2 as an adult it became my favorite. I think the story about a dude immigrating to a big city with his family, trying to surviver, provide and succeed in life, just felt more relatable than the usual "Defeat Sauron, beat the orcs" trope of Origins and Inquisition.
No it is because it's a very refreshing and atmospheric game. Sure it's combat is shallow especially compared to other titles Kojima's or Not, the climbing mechanics were absolutely nutty. It was super intuitive and organic. And so was the story.
I completed 100% of trophies for all the Fallout games since May, including Fallout Shelter. Fallout 4 was different but still very fun. Fallout 76 was fun at first, but way too many bugs and as I played more and more I realized how broken and repetitive it is. Nothing but fetch quests. I'm sure it's much improved, and I did really enjoy it for some of the time I played, but it's just way too broken for me to play it voluntarily. But I could definitely go back and play FO4. I'd probably play FO4 over FONV because New Vegas runs like absolute dogshit on PS3.
Fallout 4 is my favorite Fallout. And I like Last of Us 2 better than 1.i like Infinite better than Bioshock 1. I loved Death Stranding. Got burned out in the end but still love it. I didn't like Final Fantasy 16. It's not an RPG and too many side quests that suck. Story sucks after Bahamut and ending sucks. Silent Hill 4 is the only game i hated but I'm currently replaying all games. I'll see if my opinion changed
Going for FFXVI over FFXV is most definitely one move that's for sure... I feel like its hard to be more divisive than XV, but FFXVI surely is a mixed bag as well. I feel like the game both has some major flaws that absolutely ruin some of the fun but also some of the greatest, most monumental set pieces ever created in a video game. It alternates between beautifully profound and poetic monologs and very cheeky playful banter to the corniest dogwater cheezy edgelord anime dialogs imaginable. SPOILER ALERT, but the game gets rid of its two most interesting side characters in the first third of the game and the story goes completely off the rails seemingly out of nowhere after Primogenesis is cast. I think the argument that "people don't like the change from turn base to action" to be way overplayed and mostly disingenuous. Most people who dislike the combat do so not because of its real time action nature, but because they think it's poorly realized. Enemies are massive sponges who barely deal any damage and take forever to kill while never managing to be actual threats. The swordplay feels weightless and unimpactful though the eikonic abilities mostly feel pretty great. Overall gameplay manages to feel both sufficiently wide yet somewhat shallow. The world has no interactivity and doesn't feel very reactive either to your actions as a player. It has some of the most jarrigly bad side content i have ever seen with writing so poor it feels like it was written by questionnably skilled teenagers. Yet the game also has a lot of heart and love and passion, it looks incredible, Clive Rosfield is such an unusual, interesting and well acted protag (surrounded by an overall admittedly weaker cast) and the games reaches highs so high its probably the only ever videogame that has ever managed to make me feel actual euphoria. All of that makes it possible for people who are unbothered by the game's flaws (some will disagree are flaws in the first place which is justifiable, though out of the reach of this simple comment), to have one of the best gaming experiences imaginable and I think this speaks volumes about to the quality of the work that has been done regardless of all the garbage that can be found in the game.
Asking for subs 1 min 18 sec into the video.... how about letting the video speak for itself and then plead at the very end? I mean barely 1 min into a 40 min video I have no idea if the channel is worth my time or not.
The 3 modern Elder Scrolls games are divisive among the fanbase. Hella annoying fanbase tbh. Everyone know they’re all absolute fire for different reasons.
I'm sorry bout my take here but I think death stranding is an absolutely terrible game. Some people just love to ride Kojimas nuts it doesn't matter what he does they're gonna eat it up.
Bethesda games have never really been that good. The only ones that I like are Fallout 4 and Starfield. Skyrim has a lot of issues. Boring story, terrible combat, bad voice acting, boring traversal etc.

Btw, i wouldn't put ff16 on here, that game isn't as divisive as ff12 and ahead. ff16 was widely hailed as the best ff game in yrs by fans so wruta? if anything u should've put ff13 on here instead. THAT game is far more divisive than ff16.
The Hunt for Bread October
My playthrough was mostly at night when I was just trying to chill out, and for a good portion of my time playing, it did exactly what I wanted it to
Just started the video .. #1 predicition: The Last of Us Part 2
Do these other games count as having a lukewarm to average reception:
- Super Mario Sunshine (difficult missions, or hard to collect items)
- PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale (missed potential for a Sony Crossover game)
- Donkey Kong Country 3 (late SNES release, bland main character, dull music)
- Super Paper Mario (too different from the previous PM games)
- Super Smash Bros. Brawl (broken character, bad presentation, lame movesets, boring Adventure)
- Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge (too short and very easy, bland NPCs)
Can you please do a top games with the best boss battles? I don't mean a top of the best bossfights, I mean a top of the games that have the best bosses within them, mostly because that is probably what I enjoy the most in games and there are only 2 videos in RUclips that do the top I'm talking about everybody else does top best bosses but that's spoilers stuff and not the same
DMC3 needs to be on this list
@@diaryofarobot this was a good idea! Going to do this!
@@TotallyTubularJonathan Some personal recommendations for the tierlist (though there are definitely more):
Most Soulslikes, God of War 3, Hollow Knight, Cuphead, Terraria (and Calamity mod) and Shadow of the Colossus
I like the Death Stranding gameplay but I don’t care about the story or the combat.
Thanks! ❤
@@Fluffychoupikkos I don’t regret playing it either but I was quite mixed on it sadly. Ended up going back to 76 of all things after haha
@@TotallyTubularJonathan Jesus bro, I kinda did the same. I played 76 after Starfield for around 100 hours, I quite liked it at first and finally ended up hating it with all my heart lol.
People didn't like Bioshock Infinite? Huh? (also don't question how I am already on this part of the video when this was posted 15 minutes ago)
I don’t care for it but I’m a BIOSHOCK one fanboy sooo yah too much a departure from original in my opinion that is.
@@justin9181 why are people like you so resistant to change?
It’s one of those games that definitely has been reevaluated by some. Personally, I didn’t like the gameplay loop and location nearly as much as 1 and 2, but I understand why people like it.
FF16 without the dumb side missions is a masterpiece.
I kinda wish I skipped them. It's one reason I ended up hating the game
Shout the fuck out to the Deadly Premonition soundtracks
Ohh this gonna be a good one ☝️
I think the story about a dude immigrating to a big city with his family, trying to surviver, provide and succeed in life, just felt more relatable than the usual "Defeat Sauron, beat the orcs" trope of Origins and Inquisition.
silent hill 4 lover here
The only reason Death Stranding isn’t unanimously considered bad is because it has Kojima’s name on it
No it is because it's a very refreshing and atmospheric game. Sure it's combat is shallow especially compared to other titles Kojima's or Not, the climbing mechanics were absolutely nutty. It was super intuitive and organic. And so was the story.
It was a perfect pandemic game. We couldn't go anywhere, and I could pretend to be a UPS delivery person.
If kellygreens6748 said it, then it's a fact. He's the protagonist of this planet's story, we're all here just for him.
Nice list will disagree with pokemon at the end. I thought it was pretty unanimous sw/sh and s/v are both garbo
The only REAL good games here are Final fantasy 16 and death stranding i knew they were hated but after i played them idk why ppl hate it
New Vegas is ok, Fallout 3 is the best on..just wish they would port it to the new consoles without signing up for ps plus crap.
BREAD
Deadly Premonition is a lot better on Switch. It runs and looks better over the 360 version.
I'd probably play FO4 over FONV because New Vegas runs like absolute dogshit on PS3.
bioshock infinite is the most decisive game on this list
Bread
Honestly, XV is closer to being an RPG (in terms of mechanics) than 16. I think that alone makes it a less divisive game.
The Evil Within 2 was horrible in my opinion. Felt like the “American” version of the first. Tons disagree though
I lost friendships over last of us 2. If you call this game a masterpiece better stay a mile away from me at all times.
Bethesda games have never really been that good. The only ones that I like are Fallout 4 and Starfield. Skyrim has a lot of issues. Boring story, terrible combat, bad voice acting, boring traversal etc.
FFXVI was fire. I don’t care about weebs crying because it’s not turn based.
Not being turn based is the least of its problems.
@@Ocean5ix FXVI is almost flawless. My only critique are the side missions. Trash, especially in comparison to WRPG’s. Outside of that there’s no way you can tell me it isn’t great
You know, a timestamp that doesn't provide accurate information is worse than having no timestamp at all. Downvoted your video.
