- Star Trek's 55th anniversary is this month, and accompanying that milestone is the just-released 4K Ultra HD Star Trek: The Original 4-Movie Collection. And to help celebrate the occasion, IGN's own Star Trek aficionado Scott Collura interviewed William Shatner himself!
In this William Shatner interview, which you can watch at the top of the page or below, Shatner discusses the making of the first four Star Trek movies -- as well as Star Trek V, which he directed and is sure to be on the next 4K set. From the convoluted development of Star Trek: The Motion Picture to bringing Kirk into a middle-aged funk in The Wrath of Khan to shooting the famous "double dumb-ass on you" scene in The Voyage Home, the star reveals lots of fun behind-the-scenes tidbits from the beloved franchise.
As for the Blu-rays, Star Trek's 55th anniversary marks the first time that the original four Star Trek films are presented in not only 4K Ultra HD, but with Dolby Vision and HDR-10 as well. Each film -- Star Trek: The Motion Picture, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Star Trek: III: The Search for Spock, and Star Trek: IV: The Voyage Home -- comes packaged with "hours of previously released bonus content."
This content includes commentary, deleted scenes, storyboards, trailers, production videos like "Designing Khan" and interviews with William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, DeForest Kelley, and more.
This Star Trek: The Original 4-Movie Collection, which is available now, also comes packaged with standard Blu-rays and digital copies of each film. For those without 4K TVs or players, there is also a version that just includes the Blu-ray discs and digital copies.

Not only does he not look anything like 90, he does'nt sound anything like 90. He's still switched on and tuned in. Looks like Kirk will be around for a while yet ! 👍
Yes, it's not just his physical appearance, but his voice, his energy, his enthusiasm and unending zest for living.
He'a Canadian. And a vegetarian.
From your mouth to God’s ear
Given his past smoking habit and all that Saurian Brandy... he's indestructible.
It's damn amazing.
The fact that he’s 90 years old and still looks 20 years younger is actually impressive.
Stem cell cocktails
Plastic surgery and lots of it
My dad is 77 and Bill Shatner is dunking on him 😂
Compare him to Patrick Stewart who is 9 years younger....
They need to put him on womans magazines jks
The best Captain of them all.
I’m really shocked that Shatner is 90. The man doesn’t look a day over 70- we sure he isn’t genetically half-Vulcan?
He's had work done you can tell. Not hating, just noticed it. Look at his hands. They tell the story
Hes sharper and active than a person half his age
@@blackdynamite5016 he looks like a 70 year old who had work done to look like he’s 50
While he's had cosmetic work done, he's always led a healthy and active lifestyle.
He's had work done on his face but that obviously can't help with his mind, he's still as sharp as ever it seems.
He’s probably the healthiest looking 90 year old I’ve ever seen
Never seen someone at age 90 this fit.
Facts
Yeah, he actually looks younger than Patrick Stewart, who played a Starfleet captain _twenty years_ after Shatner first played Kirk, and is a decade younger in real life. His voice has held up better too. When you hear Stewart speak, his voice has that scratchiness to it that tells you the speaker is older. Happened to Nimoy too, and you could hear it in the later movies where he played Spock. Shatner, on the other hand, still sounds pretty much like he always did, and if he voiced Kirk in an animated Star Trek feature, you wouldn't be able to tell he's old.
@@firsthandturtledove9896 Clint Eastwood is 91. Pretty sure Eastwood looks more "fit".
he looks 60
Great Interview. Bill Shatner is so under appreciated! He's a treasure.
an international treasure
He's 90 years old, yet he looks like he could go on for another decade or two.
He better. He's the only icon that hasn't been ruined by the new Trek shlock,
And maybe he will be .
Eat your heart out Picard!
This is a really enjoyable interview with Bill Shatner. Scott, you enabled him to feel relaxed and fluent with intelligent, respectful and well-informed questions. Thank you! Bill Shatner is a force of nature and an inspiration.
His looks don't impress me as much as his sharp mind and wit. He looks like he continues to have fun, which might be the key to the fountain of youth.
remember he was on that planet in This side of paradise?
Dude still goes horse riding, has his own ranch and everything...
Bill Shatner is an absolute legend. How is he 90? Insane.
He had lots of orion slave girls!
@@robd1329 LOL :)
He just never stopped.
Even 2020 couldn't beat him.
You don't age in space and he went on all those five year missions...........duh!
This guy is amazing. He's more engaged and alive than people half his age
you ain't lying. I'm 40 and he out does me.
this man was born to be Captain Kirk ,Star Trek was ahead of its time when it aired in the 60s
His excitement about life is contagious. Shatner did a television serious called "the captains" where he interviews/talks with the all the star trek captains from the television shows. Seriously interesting showing Shatner asking questions responding with
*/his smart humor.
Star Trek: The Motion Picture is a beautiful film--From the scale models, to the music, to the actors, to the wardrobe, to the sets, and from the premise to the conclusion.
For me the best Star Trek Movie ever
It's a poem
STTMP bluray next month. Definately buying it.
It was visually stunning for its time. It's just the script and story that was a bit 💩
Deforest Kelly deserves enormous credit for putting up with the egos of Nimoy and Shatner for so long.
Are we sure Shatner’s 90?? He looks fantastic! Did someone put down his birth year wrong on his birth certificate & he’s actually like 70 something! Holy schnikes!
His first imdb credit is from 1951.
William Shatner is and always will be our friend.
Shatner never ceases to amaze. What a treasure to have some one, anyone, who at 90 can so eloquently articulate the wisdom of a life well lived.
He almost dropped a tear talking about Leonard. It broke my heart
And, he’s still Captain Kirk: completely in charge of his body and mind.
90?
He looks way better than the episode where they artificially aged him.
So much better than Patrick Stewart, never thought I'd like Bill more than Patrick
Damn, for 90, he looks like he’s still in his 50’s.
That's a stretch
The Wrath of Khan movie s considered by many to be the pinnacle of Star Trek.
He’s amazing! What a young 90 year old...I crushed on him way back when, and he still is fabulous!
This man means so much to me. Thanks so much for sharing this great interview with the legendary William Shatner.
William Shatner has lived such a life! He looks fantastic! I'm just so annoyed that the Star Trek franchise hasn't taken advantage of him being around all this time.
I'm so happy Mr. Shatner is doing so many interviews lately!
He looks great and his mind is so sharp. Exceptional.
And witty too.
How the hell is this man, this LEGEND, 90’s years old…?!!! He’s the ultimate sci fi Godfather. Bill Shatner FOREVER!!! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
The man is ABSOLUTELY F-A-S-C-I-N-A-T-I-N-G !!!!! what an incredibly great interview!!!
Thank you Lucy for believing in Star Trek to bring it to life .
We should all be so lucky to have those genes! He will likely see 120 at this pace.
He looks better now than in the episode The Deadly Years
Best Shatner interview I’ve ever heard.
Always enjoyable, and he is the epitome of "Never Stop Learning"! He always finds something new to do and present to us!
Amazing! He could pass for someone in their 60's. If you didn't know who Shatner was, you would NEVER guess he was 90 years old. He's the youngest looking and sounding 90 year old I've ever heard!
In dreading the day when Shatner dies, this world will have lost an absolute treasure!
He is a legendary person!
Show me a 90 year old who looks better, you can't. Dude could be 60 and you would buy it. Other people who got close to 90 like Stan Lee could not hold a candle to this and Stan had lots of energy.
how is this guy 11years Joe Biden"s senior?? to date, this this the sharpest, younger looking 90 yr old ive ever seen. what is this man doing.
You are never done bill ....you will Always be our captain
Love you
Shatner looks incredible for his age!
Can’t believe he’s 90 amazing, hope I’m like this lol
One of the best interviews with Bill I've seen. Well done!
Shatner rockin' the blonde look again, just like back in '66! 👍
I love STAR TREK - THE MOTION PICTURE! During the lounge scene, there's a flash of anger in Kirk's eyes when Spock says "Of Course, Captain". It's so tiny, many people might not even see it, but it's Shatner at his very best (in my opinion). My favourite Kirk moment in my favourite Trek film!
I'll need to watch the film again. I've seen it maybe four or five times, but can't quite remember the lounge seen.
@@wardka - The scene can be found on the Movieclips RUclips channel under the name *Spock Reports for Duty* . But by all means, rewatch the whole film! 😊
Born in 1931 and still super sharp, think about all that he's seen and the times he's lived through.
I’ve been watching a few of these interviews with William and he really seemed to enjoy himself in this one. Great interviewer.
Wow he does look amazing for 90. This is a wonderful interview. He is my favourite captain of em all for sure. His dynamic with Nemoy was incredible.
He looks like he still has another 20/30 years left on him,I’m amazed at his youthful 90!…..he still has a think coat of hair and set of teeth if that’s any indication!!……amazing……he’s def going where no man has gone before if he gets to 100 and still looks like this….even in his conversation and the way he speaks and gestures…..one would think he still has a lot of life yet………..💯🔥❤️💯🔥❤️
11:15 watch that scene and tell me Shatner isn’t a Great Actor. It’s tough to watch, Kirk falling out of his chair, losing his composure. You feel Kirk’s loss.
The man, Shatner, is fearless. It doesn’t always work, but damn, he’ll let it all hang out just to see.
Yes fearless! You may already know this story...
...in one of Leonard Nimoy's books he describes a moment where he and Shatner were reading the script for one of the episodes in the third and final season/series. Some of those scripts they didn't like as moving too far away from ST norms. This one had Kirk's mind taken over by a woman. Nimoy noted that the script was weak and not right. Shatner said "well, that's what we've been given. And I'm going to attack it!" meaning of course, do the scene, with gusto!
He wears his success well. It's inspiring to hear him.
He looks amazing. He still looks 60/70
Great interview, when Shat is on form he is hilarious.
Shatner is phenomenal!
my grandmother is the same age as Shatner and has dementia, seeing him is amazing
Captain My Captain.
For everyone saying "He looks so young for 90" he had plastic surgery. But he definitely is very aware and lively.
This man has aged better than anyone I've ever seen!
At 90 years old he took Spocks advise and living long and prospering…..🤟
He's an American treasure, even if he is Canadian.
Well, both Canada and the U.S. are in America. ;)
@@Quotenwagnerianer OK, he's a North American treasure.
Hey, Canadians are nice people too. 😂
Mr. shatner is a living legend.
The Man, The Legend, William Shatner!
Shatner's wig looks amazing here.
Bill Shatner is now 90 years old, we expect some rambling.
But sharp interesting rambling.
Honestly, it's like he simply refuses to age until they put him in another movie.
This was fabulous.
My Dad is 78 and he looks much older than Shatner.
A true Star indeed, love him 👍
This is every nerds dream to sit in their bedroom and interview William Shatner
Wow, looks like he's doing great.
Like a vampire he just keeps moving from decade to decade out living everyone & still being relevant.
Picard couldn't carry he's jock strap
Thanks, Scott! Thanks, Mr. Shatner! 🤩
Fun fact, Michael Myers original mask was actually a mold of William Shatners face
Yeah, they cut out eyelids. Bleached the face white, and then combed back the hair and sometimes dyed it.
Awefullt creepy.
Lol
@@codystegemueller9428 Deadass tho
They did not, in fact "burn the set". The framework of the STMP bridge was the foundation for the TNG bridge, along with the curving corridor sets. Maybe Bill meant the other sets.
13:46 "chautauqua" ah that word from Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, highly recommended
"What do you mean your character wouldn't do that? Your character does that"
SPACE - What's Between Our Leaders Ears !
How old is this guy? Love William but Weird or What he looks, moves and sounds GREAT..all the best W.S.🐎
he looks better than patrick stewart
Please next time talk about RICARDO MOLTALBAN and THE WRATH OF KHAN :)
OMG!
Bill has still got it!
And it was awesome to hear how those kids related to the adults during that talk!
He's great. Lovely humour and hes mentally youthful and looks so well.
He's trying to keep star trek alive while CBS is trying to kill it.
Just stop it.
@@joelaton1062 who?
I'm not sure that CBS are trying to kill it but they are certainly morphing it into something which goes completely against Gene Roddenberry's original ideas and plans for the Star Trek universe. CBS seem to want to make it appeal to the masses (who seem to be finding the new stuff forgettable popcorn TV) but at the same time are losing many of the original Star Trek fans. There's been some totally unsuitable people in charge of Star Trek for the past few years but you also need to look at those who hired them because they too are partly responsible for the mess that it's in right now.
JFC you whiners are ridiculous

"And then Kirk throws the phaser over his shoulder..."
13:13 Whatever you do, do not drink that coffee Bill! Everyone willl moooooooooooove
. .....
..............
........slooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
Love listening to him talk.
Burning the sets instead of selling them to the fans or collectors for charities that the cast love ... 🤔🤦
You have to remember, it was not super popular yet.
@@joelaton1062 true...it was just wasted space back then
At any age a fun interview. He never holds back.
Great interview but he is wrong about one thing. The sets were never taken down after TMP they used them all the way till they finished Generations.
Looks like the adrenalin hasn't worn off yet from "The Deadly Years"!
great guy who has lived with his eyes and mind open, and then shares it all with us... wisdom :)
Wrath of Khan. Best One!
In this video Shatner looks like he is 60. I'm relieved.
He Said 6 years later They Made STAR Trek ONE??????????? LOVE STAR TREK>>>HAPPY NEW YEARS FROM CANADA.2024
ST the Motion Picture was a bit weird, but sort of made sense in the way of a machine intelligence that is sort of deciding to wipe out Earth or not, and decided not to. Not too many people would understand. Spock does diplomatics. Computers are impressive fast execution devices that can gather approximate audio visual data and transmit it to other computers. It involves charge sensing, usb protocol, internet protocol, compression, audio analog to digital conversion, vice versa, and etc...
He should sell his Genes to Jeff Bezos, he'd make a fortune.
Bezos will kidnap and freeze him.
WRT "My character wouldn't do that".
Shatner claims here that this phrase never left his mouth. However, this is the same Shatner who, when asked to say "Let them die" about the death of Klingons in Star Trek 6 said "My character wouldn't do that". He's even been interviewed saying how he fought against Kirk saying this line.
When you reach max level, you stop progressing.
