Delco Carousel IV-A Inertial Navigation System. Nicknamed "CIVA",
An inertial navigation system (INS) is a navigation aid that uses a computer, motion sensors and gyroscopes to continuously calculate via dead reckoning the position, orientation, and velocity of a the aircraft without the need for external references.
it was easily the most popular inertial navigation system used before wide adoption of GPS became possible in the 90's.
The CIVA could be found on 707, 727, some 737-100s and -200s, the DC-10 and L-1011 Tristar, and on the early 747-100, -200 and -300 variants.
This CIVA has primarily been developed to be used with the 727 series of FlyJSim. It can be installed with any other aircraft.
    Features
    - Fully compatible with the 727 Series by FlyJSim
    - Realistic warmup, initialization and alignment procedures
    - Optional Quick-Align to get you flying instantly
    - All display modes modeled, including HOLD modes:
It can display ground track, ground speed, heading, drift angle, cross-track error, track-angle error, position, distance-to-go, estimated time enroute, wind speed and direction, along-track acceleration and longitudinal wind component
    - Automatic navigation of up to 9 waypoints
    - X-Plane flightplans can be loaded instead of manual waypoint entry
    - Single-DME updating incorporating DME elevation
    - Realistic position drift and smooth updating
    - Built-in 30-minute backup battery in case of emergency

Great presentation on the Nav Box, very nicely and accurately explained. Flying the SID, after runway heading you sort of made up your own path. The turn to 244 was to take you to the outbound radial until you would be in position to incept the radial back to the station on the airport. As it was flown you never made it. If you look 244 places you on the course line tip which you should have flown until it centered on 190 and 12 DME. Thence onto 88 degrees to the KLO VOR and outbound on the rest of the course to your destination. While you were in the cleared airspace and above 6000 feet in clear weather, add the work load of climbing ,cleaning up, navigating, communicating, and watching your F.O. to make sure he doesn't try to kill you, you have a good game ! Now try it fully loaded on a max temperature day and things change and not in your favor. I'll be here to hold your feet to the fire, glad you made the Subs and hope you get many thousand more. Robert

I know you are interested in precision and giving the most accurate representation of flying in the virtual world. Cumulo-Granite is a non-forgiving type of cloud that lurks out there for us all. I will always be happy to share my 30 plus years of flight experience and tip and tricks for survival. I have a question for you.....I have lost the ATC wizard for a script line near the top center of the screen. I have no add ons beyond aircraft and nothing since the un-commanded change. Any thoughts ?

I watched a few other videos trying to learn the CIVA and I wasn't quite getting it right. Thankfully your upload showed up in my feed a few days later and was extremely helpful. I never thought to take the simbrief plan into SkyVector, I was always hunting around for the waypoint coordinates. Thanks!

Another very good video. Flew with CIVA and entered every waypoint of the SID and worked beautifully. Great fun having to recycle the waypoints as it was a long flight with 12 waypoints after the SID.

Hey man, just watch your APU EGT when turning on the packs. I know it's just a sim, but when you turn on the packs, EGT always rises and can overheat. I'm a real life Flight Engineer on a military 707, so I'm speaking from experience.

    • @jowenjv4463
      @jowenjv4463 4 года назад

Hi, thanks for the precision. I was thinking the same, but not with EGT, but AMP. In the checklist, you must be careful to not go over 120A (need to verify though) with the APU. Turning both packs at the same time seems to make the AMPs near 150+A. I think there are damages modeled on this 727, but not sure.

  • @Nexus822

Quick comment about your style of inserting waypoints. And this goes for anyone starting with this unit: Make sure you convert arc seconds into decimal minutes (which the CIVA accepts).
For instance wpt BEMKI in your flightplan has a latitude of N47 degrees, 33 minutes and 57 seconds. You will not input that as N47.33.5, but as N47.33.9 OR even N47.34.0. This is because 57 seconds is 0.95 of a minute (57/60).
Granted enroute the differential is not that big - ½ minute latitude which is 0,5 NM/925 meters -but it's good practice to convert the format into the proper one for the CIVA unit.

Hi, Nice intro to the CIVA. I have been using it in FSLabs Concorde-X in FSX, however I am looking to install it in X-Plane and I wanted to see how it compares to what I have used up until now. You can save yourself some laborious key pressing by ignoring leading zeros "0's when entering coords.
Now to see if this unit can be installed on the Colimata Concorde for X-Plane.

Hi. Are you going to make complete flight with CIVA (737-200)? Will be great if You make it with more than 9 waypoints to know how to add waypoint during flight. Also DME updating procedure during flight will be great to see. And most important is if its possible to make some simply STAR procedure using CIVA (for example EPRZ 10-2D from LUXAR point to RZ732)? Thank you for wideo - its very nice to watch.

I've noticed that too! He should have stayed at heading 244 and waited for the needle to come closer and then make a turn to intercept TRE 190 radial...You can compare his turn at 28:13 with the SID at 21:24. See how he have turned before and ended up closer to the airport than he should be. Small detail, otherwise good information and great video!

Does anyone get stutters while using CIVA ?

  • @philippe6787
    @philippe6787 3 года назад +1

There is a fix for the CIVA INS stutters:
    1) Make a new folder on the “Airplanes” folder of XP11 and copy paste everything of the plane folder you want to fix.
    2)Go to plane maker 11
    3) Open the airplane’s ACF in plane maker
    4) Go to panel 3-D and delete CDU739 on the top right hand side of your screen
    5) Save and close plane maker and exit
    6) With a text editor, open your ACF file and look for ACF/_philipp_fms_slot 0 and ACF/_philipp_fms_slot1
    7) change the numbers next to them from 1 to 0 (In both) then save and exit
    8) Finished!!
    Note:
    - You will now have two of the same airplanes ( one on the new folder and with the fix and then the original one) on the XP11 menu, make sure you choose the right one before flying.
    - The FMS in the stutter fixed version will be inoperable, so choose the original plane for that
-If you have any questions: comment below.
    Thanks!
