  • Lets talk about a crucial part of IFR flight planning, that being Standard Instrument Departures (SIDs) and Standard Terminal Arrival Routes (STARs). SIDs, and STARs, are predetermined routes with speed and altitude restrictions that will guide you to and from the airport.

    This video was great! I excitedly looked for the How To on Approach Plates, but guessing you haven't gotten around to making it. Looking forward to it. Thank you for the great content.

    I just read your written tutorial in the FSElite magazine and I have two questions:
    1) what are the numbers indication above the heading number? There’s also a * in front of the second number (like 16000 *14400)
    2) the number below the heading indicates NM I assume?

    Thanks for the informational vid. I didn't pick it all up but I did some.
    What was off-putting was the music while I was trying to concentrate on listening to you.
    The music isn't necessary.

    what equipment do they mean when the chart says REQUIRES RADAR: Rad Alt, Weather Radar, or Transponder?

  • @TenantRepGuru
    @TenantRepGuru 4 года назад +1

    Great tutorial, but there was one minor mistake. “Radar Required” is not about the plane having radar. It’s about ATCs radar being operational. There is never a requirement for a plane to have radar. Radar is not used for navigation, only for weather avoidance. Otherwise, well done.

      Wanted to point it out as well. 9 months, no reply from OP, everything else so clear and wonderfully explained... would be a masterpiece and real perfection if he would make clear whether he made this slight mistake, preferably adding his edition to the description of the video.

    I find your videos very informative. Well spoken and clear. I'm not new to flight simming but I am new to SIDS and STARS. Generally I understand SIDs more than I do STARs. I am still unsure exactly which STAR I need to make my desired approach (or based on real world weather). I think an example that might help me better understand would be EGCN - LEPA - a route I love to fly. Let's say I am departing Runway 20 and landing on 24R on arrival. I don't know if I can contact you direct or if you can help me better understand here?

    • @TheFlightSimDeck
      @TheFlightSimDeck  4 года назад +1

      Hi thank you! Do you have a simbrief account? It's a free website that provides all the routing information for you. Some STARs will only get you to a certain point and then either ATC will vector you to the runway or you can do so at your own discretion.
      When I plug in EGCN - LEPA on simbrief the routing it gives me is:
      UPTO1A UPTON LISTO HON UN859 ROCAN UN13 LORES LORE1R
      OR
      TNT HON UN859 LOMRA UN727 ROCAN UN859 TOLSO TOLS1R
      So the two STARS they recommend are LORE1R or TOLS1R
      Both are on Page 3 here:

    What is you dont have a pre planned arrival and aproach, how do you know whitch one to use, and does the aproch plate guide you the first waypoint in the arrival, so you have to find ones that match?
