Flight Sim How To | Reading SIDs And STARs | Obtaining Charts

- Опубликовано: 8 сен 2024
- Lets talk about a crucial part of IFR flight planning, that being Standard Instrument Departures (SIDs) and Standard Terminal Arrival Routes (STARs). SIDs, and STARs, are predetermined routes with speed and altitude restrictions that will guide you to and from the airport.

oh wow i've been looking for this all over the net for stuff like this. I don't know how to read them, so this so so so so helpful....thank you so much for this....
Thanks this really helped with me feeling more confident about flying on Vatsim I don’t fly IFR yet but I want to lock in VFR first
This video was great! I excitedly looked for the How To on Approach Plates, but guessing you haven't gotten around to making it. Looking forward to it. Thank you for the great content.
Great video, you have a real knack for explaining these concepts clearly and concisely
thank you so much.. you teach very well i cant wait to use this as i just got good a creating a flight plan yet was always being routed by atc some where and their main complaint was i was missing transition via the sid and the star. thank you
Love these, and thanks for taking the time!
Thank you!
@@TheFlightSimDeck welcome!
This vid is tons of help. i just started my 1st IFR ground today an thats what i went over
Wow, this answered so many questions for me! Thanks :)
Great video! and to the point, I now understand so much more Sids and Stars. Thank you!
thank you my friend . that was a good video . bass
chartfox is pretty good too for vatsim!
Fantastic video with solid explanation about SIDs And STARs. We are waiting fo the next tutorial!
Exceptional video, great explanation of the SIDs and STARS.
phenomenal video, just subscribed.
As always, amazing tutorial.
Thank you so much, this will make so much more sense now
Great Video. Thanks
I just read your written tutorial in the FSElite magazine and I have two questions:
1) what are the numbers indication above the heading number? There’s also a * in front of the second number (like 16000 *14400)
2) the number below the heading indicates NM I assume?
Thanks for doing this!
Very welcome John!
Thanks for the informational vid. I didn't pick it all up but I did some.
What was off-putting was the music while I was trying to concentrate on listening to you.
The music isn't necessary.
Good tutorial, thank you.
what equipment do they mean when the chart says REQUIRES RADAR: Rad Alt, Weather Radar, or Transponder?
Great tutorial, but there was one minor mistake. “Radar Required” is not about the plane having radar. It’s about ATCs radar being operational. There is never a requirement for a plane to have radar. Radar is not used for navigation, only for weather avoidance. Otherwise, well done.
8:50 @ or below FL200? You mean above?
Wanted to point it out as well. 9 months, no reply from OP, everything else so clear and wonderfully explained... would be a masterpiece and real perfection if he would make clear whether he made this slight mistake, preferably adding his edition to the description of the video.
Yup saw that also.. Surprised not much others picked up on it
I had to track back 3 times lol
I find your videos very informative. Well spoken and clear. I'm not new to flight simming but I am new to SIDS and STARS. Generally I understand SIDs more than I do STARs. I am still unsure exactly which STAR I need to make my desired approach (or based on real world weather). I think an example that might help me better understand would be EGCN - LEPA - a route I love to fly. Let's say I am departing Runway 20 and landing on 24R on arrival. I don't know if I can contact you direct or if you can help me better understand here?
Hi thank you! Do you have a simbrief account? It's a free website that provides all the routing information for you. Some STARs will only get you to a certain point and then either ATC will vector you to the runway or you can do so at your own discretion.
When I plug in EGCN - LEPA on simbrief the routing it gives me is:
UPTO1A UPTON LISTO HON UN859 ROCAN UN13 LORES LORE1R
OR
TNT HON UN859 LOMRA UN727 ROCAN UN859 TOLSO TOLS1R
So the two STARS they recommend are LORE1R or TOLS1R
Both are on Page 3 here:

@@TheFlightSimDeck Perfect. That's a massive help. Thank you
Just FYI for all - flightaware does populate the flightplans also in Australia.
That’s great to know! I wonder if there are more places then.
Just thought the same thing and had a quick check of a few places. It appears to also show for England, Canada, and New Zealand
PiperPilotAU thanks I checked too. It’s hit or miss but they're are still quite a few sharing their routes which is great. I wonder if that’s new or if I’ve just missed it before.
I miss the livestream when's then next one :D
Amazing how fs2020 will do this for you now
What is you dont have a pre planned arrival and aproach, how do you know whitch one to use, and does the aproch plate guide you the first waypoint in the arrival, so you have to find ones that match?
what are the *(asterisk) altitudes?
Nice
I wasn't able to find your approach plate how to video. did you ever made it ?
At or ABOVE FL200 at FREZE
I Agree its at or above FL200 @ FREZE
OMFG YOU HAVE THE YOKO!! I WOULD KILL FOR THAT MAN
How do you know if the IFR charts you download from the web are up to date (without going into payware) ? because i've seen some frequencies that have changed over time
Not true US only, it also covers Canada so it covers North America only
If you want plates from all over the world download airmate on Android can download all the plates free
turn off annoying music or do you want playing music.....?
