I can't even explain how grateful I am, I've followed many tutorials about what TD is like, but nobody explains how to use it as you do. Thank you very much mate
Yeah man, you would think the people that made the software would be the best at explaining it! Instead it's brave people like Bileam that have to do it. To me it looks like selling a TV without a manual and relying on the public to crack the mystery, I never really understood why.
@@RusticRaver not agree, Derivative has a lot of free resources to learn the software, not to mention the detailed description of each operator and its parameters, the snippets, the resources of the palette
@@xurxoSantome I'm glad to have your opinion! Yes there are some great things too, operator snippet is my favorite, very instinctive way to learn, TD is still my favorite software u know and its only the beginning hopefully, sorry for having a critical sense. But then again you end up with loads of the same tutorials very time consuming, I do find the wiki a bit useless and very technical description rather than a downloadable example of the thing working. Then again it relies on people doing free tutorials, what do they get in return? Of course you can buy courses too, which I did.
Thank you very much for your tutorials, so that people from all over the world can see them, which has helped us a lot. I always follow your youtube to see what you have done to share, thank you for your efforts,
It's crazy we can learn those for free. You have been helping me a lot! I have watched so many tut videos of software such as Maya, aftereffects, etc.., but you are the bestest! Thank you so much!
With the info chop, the cook_frame value is your lenght in ms! My song is 5.52sec = 352 ms, and cook_frame is 352522. It also takes into account the ms you miss when just adding the 000's
@@elekktronaut Well, what you actually want in the timeline is the number of frames, not the milliseconds. I think it's the file_length_frames in the info chop (maybe the true_file_length_frames, I don't know the difference), which is 4218. If the track would be exactly 70 seconds, this would make 4200 frames at 60FPS.
your tutorials are absolutely brilliant and have been great for me especially your beginners guide (which I def am lol). I have a question though and was curious if you had any ideas: So I have been exporting movie files and they look great on my computer but then look super pixelated on my phone! Any ideas on what is causing that? It's been very frustrating! Thanks for everything you do again!
In the geo1 rotate you have the expression of absTime.frame * 0.5, which is played with seamless looping in the touchdesigner timeline. Applying null3 to the rotate loses your expression and replaces it with op('null3')['frame'] . How to apply the null to the rotate but keep the expression absTime.frame * 0.5?
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us. You are really good at explaining. I was wondering if you knew how I can maintain the brilliance of my colors when I export as .mov? Somehow when I export all my colors become more dull and loses the color impact.
Any tips on how to use the time line data to time an lfo's curve.? Trying to set the peak of an lfo at the midpoint of the project timeline for seamless ramp up and down parameters for video export.
I don't know whether I missed that but after you set your time line as long as your track's length how can I export that as a video without using manual "Record ON/OFF" button ?
I know this is five years ago you posted this, but hopefully someone can help. I'm trying to export videos but often end up with either terrible audio (using the Export Movie dialogue) or if I use the TOP to export I get videos at double audio rate somehow. Really not sure why this is happening, but I run into it every time I try to export videos. Just did it per your example above and got the double-time effect. I didn't have the realtime button clicked, as you suggested, and got grainy audio.
The quality of my export is much lower then what I see on TD background...I've set realtime, 60fps, photomotionJPEG. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?....btw thanks for your tutorials!!!great stuff
I am not sure if it's the proper way to do it but, you can merge your two audiofileins with a merge CHOP before connecting it to an audiodevout. Then reference it to the Audio CHOP parameter in moviefileout.
Thanks always!, quick question. I would like to record multi-ops activated in background instead of using movie file out with single op. how can i do this?

Hi, first of all i love your tutorials :). I have a question about the movie file out TOP and the different containers you can choose. I try to export a mp4 video and tested it with different codecs for both video and sound and i can't find a solution that is working on ios devices AND android devices. One of them is no problem but it seems to be really hard to find the right settings to work in both worlds. I always have the problem, that sound is not working on either ios or android devices. Maybe you got a tip what i can do about that. Another problem i stumbled across was sometimes it requires a Header Source DAT and i couldn't figure out how that is working so it wouldn't let me export with that settings.
Here I was messing with a video when I suddenly realized, "HEY! I have no idea how to output the final video of this." ... Having only discovered TD a few days ago. LOL
thank you for your great content!!! What would be the best way to change the resolution for the entire network? I guess you could set-up a base resolution in the beginning right?
Kind of. The size TOP you start with (left to right) determines the size of the next TOP if its common page is set to receive its resolution from the sending top. Each TOP has its own resolution, so your network doesn’t have a native resolution. If you have two different sized images or video streams or whatever you might composite the smaller one over the bigger one, so each TOP has to be able to all be sized and resized independently. You can go up a level and set the container to a certain resolution and then change your TOPs to match that resolution by either remembering it or using an expression. I think it’s “me.parent().width” and “me.parent().height” to inherit the parent containers dimensions One trick I like to use is to put a CONSTANT TOP of the proper resolution in first, and make it transparent. Then when you feed it into the next TOP it will generally take the resolution it receives and use that as it’s resolution. Just remember, the TOP you export will be the resolution of the final file, and you can change the resolution (and pixel depth) on the common page of just about any TOP. It’s also a good idea to check your pixel type on each TOP that starts a series, say a noise top, to the pixel depth you need from it. NOISE TOPs for instance start as a 256 by 256 square with 8 bit RBG pixels, but it might be a good idea to bump that up to 1920x1080 and 32bit RGBA pixels if you want a high level of detail.

Though it is a cube map, the file is not recognized as a 360° video. Is there something before exporting in TD that I should take into account for that format?
