What is Touchdesigner: A Simple Explanation for Visual, Interactive and Multimedia Creators

- Although it is not easy to explain everything Touchdesigner does in such a short video, I have tried to summarize what I consider a sufficient explanation to clarify some doubts about the program. Support this and other tutorials 👉 / okamirufu
In short:
TouchDesigner is a versatile visual programming language used for creating real-time multimedia content. It allows artists, designers, and developers to build interactive installations, audiovisual performances, and complex generative art by connecting nodes called "operators." These operators handle various tasks such as image processing, 3D rendering, and data manipulation without the need for traditional coding. TouchDesigner integrates seamlessly with other software and hardware, making it a powerful tool for crafting innovative, interactive experiences. Its node-based interface makes it accessible for beginners while offering depth for advanced users.

The quality of your content is mind-blowing. It seems like I finally found someone who I had been looking for for a long time. You are really special, man.
Hey man, this is the kind of comment that truly motivates me to keep going. Thank you so much, you've really made my day!

Excellent breakdown. Thank you
This is gr8, a friend told me about touch designer, that I hadn’t heard of …this is a great overview. I could definitely get into this as the modular interface appears to keep things simple enough to later explore more complex ideas. Cheers
It's exactly like you mentioned, once you start exploring more about TD, you'll realize it has huge potential to expand into artistic areas, multimedia, the music scene, museums, experiences, etc. It's massive!
Well done is Touch desiner used for non interactive visuals as well, things you can render and put on youtube or instagram or is better to use Blender, what do you see as the adventage compered to Blender, what do you think about open source alternatives such TOOLL3 ?
you are absolutely right, you can also do rendering, and I actually use it quite a bit for all the videos on social media. mmm advantages compared to blender, I am not sure how flexible Blender is, for example, in managing LED lights for stages or creating an api that uses weather data to generate graphics. It might be possible, but I feel that the blender community is more focused on high-end 3D animation than interactivity or real-time for now. In that sense, Touchdesigner has an extensive community dedicated to interactivity and real-time applications, where you can find answers to everything. This seems to be a strong advantage to me. However, the answer really depends on your goals.
Blender is not for real time stuff. TD is built for it
amazing, super high quality video ❤
thank you! i admire a lot all your work, its an inspiration for me!
Great info and introduction to Touchdesigner! Are you going to do a deep dive at some point, like an example project or something? This is a good format, though I'm not a huge fan of the obvious AI voice and script, so many giveaways of artificial writing. "It's like a playground where imagination meets technology, empowering blah blah blah" Ok robot 😂 But the visuals are very on-point, makes it easy to follow. That wins out for me, subbed.
Hi man, thanks for your feedback i will go deeper into concepts, ideas, and some other tools. My intention is to make TD more accessible to people who do not necessarily have a background in programming or creative coding because Touchdesigner It's like a playground where imagination meets technology.... haha joking thanks for subscribe
Wow this program seems amazing, thanks for showing us this
Can you “compile” a TouchDesigner “script” into a program you can run in some headless environment? That would be an insanely convenient way to deploy a TouchDesign instance that ingests some data, processes it and spits data out over the network.
Something like a proxy for stream data that runs as a daemon.
That’s a very good question, and to be honest, I don't have a clear answer, but I think I understand what you're saying. I believe that in Max MSP, you can do something similar where node-based programming generates a window with everything in C++ code format to export to other applications. I’ve never really looked into whether something like that is possible in TD.
thank you so much bro, btw the quality of your videos is so good
I appreciate that!, hope you enjoy the channel
Lovely.
Wow, dude. What an awesome video! And it really shows you put a lot of effort in it. Your work is much appreciated!
Thanks, mate! Welcome to the channel, and I hope you enjoy the rest of the content as well. Thanks for your comment!
I would recommend you change the font to just one sans serif font. it's really hard to read
Hi you mean the font in the videos or the thumbnails ? thanks for the feed very useful

you are right! this font goes to the junk, thanks for notice that
one minute in your channel and its epic, quality, comment, wow! congrats and cheers from TJ, Mex
Thanks man! TJ, means Tijuana ?? "I've been told that mexico is wonderful., how is the audio visual experimental scene there?
Thank you for this clear introduction video! Starting from zero now and hopefully can achieve visuals imagination that is in my head someday :)
Of course, you're going to achieve it! It's a learning curve that's definitely worth dedicating yourself to.
This tutorial is Very well made! i absolutely love how informative and "Not boring" This is!

Thanks for the sub! ヽ(°〇°)ノ
cool video, But the AI voice does makes it a bit hard to Focus properly on what is being said.
give it a bit of time you’ll definitely get used to it. I felt the same way, but trust me, you wouldn’t want a video in my language, lol

@@OkamirufuVI'd rather a natural speaking voice over any ai voice this ruins the video for me
@@OkamirufuV thanks man. ur content randomly showed, I didnt know Touchdesigner and wasnt looking for it.
But, I needed it without knowing it. Will surely apply to my UI projects. Thanks man.
finally a well explained and well edited video. If I learn it will also be thanks to you!
this comment make my day, really if you learn something new thanks to my tutorial is a big complement ٩(◕‿◕。)۶
Thanks for the video. Do we need to get a commercial license for using touchdesigner in youtube videos?
Hi, you don't need it but you will be limited to an output of 1280 x 720 resolution.
What you have in mind ?
what is that they use in the concerts? like EDC they have ginormous screens and various artists with their own Artworks playing for each song during their set
yep, i think for big venues or massive concerts touchdesigner is one of the most used tools y the space
Another option is Resolume.
Thanks for the content

You are awesome. Keep it up my brother.

Very well poised and comprehensive breakdown of the concepts, from the transcription to the assets and illustrations used to describe the program. Thanks, looking forward to more of your series.

@@OkamirufuV No worries. You can't but it's a minor thing. Still understandable.
Bro made music Houdini, sick
hi! what you mean ?
Side FXs Houdini is a node based VFX software, used more and more within the film and games industry. It has realtime output but its primarily suited for complex model generation or simulations. There's a lot of interesting generative visuals you can make with it, so interesting to see someone use similar software concepts instead for music visualisation @@OkamirufuV
Heyyo! Great video! I have a few questions.
Is the software free? And Can I import textures or surfaces or do I have to build everything within Touchdesigner.
Btw, you deserve more subscriber. Can't wait for you to have more of it.
Hi! Yes, TouchDesigner is free with certain limitations, but you can use almost everything it offers. The main limitation is the output video resolution, you can import textures and surfaces as well.
Really nice video! Also your design skills are incredible, keep up the good work!
Thank and it comes more like this!
Great explanation for operators! Im excited to learn this program!!
This is amazing, I hope everything you find on this channel is useful to you!
as an audio engineer, I got super pumped to try and experiment with this until I saw the price! pass! do not recommend channel or Touchdesigner content no more!
there is a free version that Includes everything, the only limitation is the output resolution
Broke boy 😂
