Song Machine is going to be an album full of ft. people and there different types of style of music. And some of the people in the music don't have to be singing/rapping they sometimes have the ft. person playing instruments. But of course there is still vocals by the lead singer.
Long story short, in 1998 the band was formed by Satanist bassist Murdoc Niccals, who met Stuart Pot (aka 2D) after attempting to steal instruments from the shop he was working in, but ending up crashing the car into his head, knocking out his eyes, making them black as dried up blood. The only reason they're white in the video, is because when 2D's not around when Murdoc is abusing him daily, he's in a happier state of mind. The other two members are Russel Hobbs, hip hop and rock drummer who got possesed by his spirit rapper, and Noodle, Japanese guitarist shipped in a FedEx crate when she was only 8 years old. However, she was able to recover her memories a few years later after the major release of their debut. Ever since then, they've been releasing albums until now. This song is gonna be part of another one releasing soon. By the way, all of the information about the virtual / animated backstories are all from Jamie Hewlett, the illustrator, and video director for Gorillaz. His friend, Damon Albarn, produces the music and voices as 2D in the songs.

Well if you don't know about the Gorillaz Clint Eastwood's their first album then Demon Days then Plastic Beach and so on and so on. Yeah, obvioiusly no way you haven't heard their songs over the years but there's also some stuff you've probably heard of them and just didn't know it was them. For the basics the band members (who are all cartoons and not real people) are 2D (the singer whom Murdoc kidnapped to start the band after denting 2D's eyes in an accident (that's why they're blank) which caused him to have a godly singing voice (his voice actor being Damon)), Murdoc (the bassist and self-proclaimed leader who's always getting the band into trouble with bad deals he makes), Russel (the American drummer who had the ghosts of his former peeps take residence in his body which manifested as the rapping ghost in the first album until he got him exorcised before Demon Days), and the Noodle (the Japanese guitarist who mailed herself in a box to their original studio and has a Zen Bond with 2D). Even though they're cartoon characters they have aged. They're drawn older with each album that comes out (though the most noticeable one is Noodle since she was 13 when it started and is now 29). Over the course of the albums there's all sorts of odd adventures they get roped into alongside the more normal "hanging out making a video" types of videos. The main story part mostly happened in Demon Days and Plastic Beach which had the band come back together after Clint Eastwood when Noodle returns to Kong Studio and fights off the Zombie Horde that infested it after they'd split up and ends with her either dying in the song El Manana or sneaking off to safety (it's very unclear as two different answers have been given, both by Murdoc who is not at all a reliable source of information. If she did die she went to hell and he brought her back according to him). Plastic Beach takes place years after that with Murdoc, again, kidnapping 2D alongside a Cyborg Noodle that he built from her DNA which looks like her during Demon Days (when she was 15) and spearheading a quest to find Plastic Beach, an unmarked island made of garbage where he could supposedly be safe from the repercussions of the bad deals he's made over the years. Noodle is also on her way to find the others and escapes from a ship that gets bombed by sky pirates (though she does kill one of them in the video) and Russel's giant due to swimming through toxic chemicals on his way to the island. It all culminates in a showdown on Plastic Beach in the song Rhinestone Eyes (which sadly only has a video of the storyboards for it since they ran out of time or budget or something to properly animate it) where the mysterious figure that's been chasing Murdoc, 2D, and Cyborg Noodle (the Boogeyman (implied to be one of The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse whom Murdoc had made a deal with to, I think, get the Gorillaz so popular)) launches an assault on the island with dead pirates and stuff which ends when Russel and Noodle show up to help out. Since then things haven't been nearly as storyheavy for the band. Murdoc finally got arrested for a while after Plastic Beach and during that period they had Ace from The Gang Green Gang (yes, from Powerpuff Girls) filling in as their bassist. With Murdoc finally unable to abuse 2D, 2D became more arrogant which Noodle believed might be due to a demon influencing him, but after going on a journey to kill that demon it turned out it was just Murdoc not being there that had affected 2D's personality. For the Song Machine the most there is plot-wise so far that seems important starts in the song Desole where Russel, Noodle, and 2D sneak off without Murdoc to just enjoy time by themselves doing a song leaving Murdoc crying when he realizes they're having fun without him, but he also realizes that their new Kong Studios for these videos have portals that lead to other parts of the world which is how Noodle, Russel, and 2D end up in a completely different location when they go through the door they took to get to where that video takes place at. Afterwards in Aires, 2D is driving with Murdoc on a motorcycle and Noodle is texting Russel asking where he is and saying that she's worried about 2D. The video ends with Murdoc taking out a syringe to inject truth serum into 2D to find out information about the portals and an afterimage has been made showing Noodle trying to hold back Russel who's about to beat Murdoc up (the reason Murdoc's nose looks the way it does is because back before the full band got together Murdoc had an affair with 2D's girlfriend (storywise 2D's original girlfriend Paula was their guitarist before Noodle arrived) leading Russel to break his nose when he beat him up the first time). And in this video that box that Murdoc's hiding out in does have that "Orgone Accumulator" sign on it (Orgone Accumulators are supposed to be devices that siphon Orgone (magical) Energy from the environment). That should have you all caught up on the lore up to this point I think. Demon Days's songs were supposedly all written by Noodle and The Fall album was supposedly by 2D while on tour after Plastic Beach and is meant to reflect his feelings and his life under Murdoc's abuse.
You definitely need to see more gorillas. its a multi layered vocal recording. so the verb is there the whole time but lower and on a different track. so he sounds clear and reverbed at the same time. And then at the end it intensifies

There is a whole video explaining where the characters came from in their universe and it's pretty cool. Yea murdoc sold his soul then basically forced 2D the singer into the band haha. He also is the reason 2D has no retinas.
