Wow! a 1793 8 REALES with NO chop marks...NO holes...NO damage of any kind!GREAT FIND! My only advice to you would be...if you don't want to scratch any silver coins always carry a microfiber rag AFTER you remove the dirt with water or alcohol and use either a cotton swab or a non aggressive brush. I live in Vermont and have done metal detecting for decades but NEVER found anything like that! I did find a 1784 2 reales coin years ago but that was just across the Connecticut river in Piermont New Hampshire. GREAT VIDEO!
That 8 Reales is where the term pieces of eight came from as it was commonly divided into 8 pieces, also leading to the term 2 bits for 1 quarter of the dollar. Fantastic find. Very well worth the watch.
I always thought that pieces of eight coins were Spanish coins made of Gold. This coin was a silver dollar made here in the US. You might want to Google it for more info.
@@davidkohler7454 That is the difference between fact and fiction. In pirate novels this may have been the case, but in reality before America was allowed to mint money, they used Spanish silver dollars which were divided into quarters, halves and eighths.
This is also why a "bit" was used as the name for computer 0/1's, because that was 1/8 of a register. That is, each memory address contained 8 of them to create a number from 0 to 255. They were named after the "bits" which were 1/8 of a coin.
Coffee and GMMD on Friday morning no better way to get started. Congrats to Vern for a beautiful coin and definitely a bucket list that is definitely a great memory to cherish. Brad, some great old copper. Great day of hunting, guys. Thanks for showing and sharing.
Awesome find, my best was in Georgia in 2012, I found an 1854D, one dollar gold coin, less than 2 miles from where it was minted in Dahlonega Georgia in Near mint condition
I'm no expert on the matter, but I think silver coins are almost pure silver, so they don't or barely tarnish. I think these type of coins only wear from usage.
@@Auxius. You’re right. According to The Scottish Detectorist silver finds of any kind come out of the ground just about the same shape as they were when they first went in, due to exactly what you said. Silver and gold do not decay in the ground.
Not only did he find an 8 Reale, it's in beautiful shape! What a find. It was exciting to watch on video, I can imagine what it was like live there in the field. No matter what, you never know what you're going to find when you go out.
I’m so envious of your location. I have seen many of your videos where you found relics and coins dating back before America began. The best I can find in Wyoming will date back to the 1850s. Love your programs, I look forward each week to watch your adventures.
Same thing here in Kansas ! I got into collecting old coins from finding a 1877 Seated Liberty Dime on my great grandfather's homestead here in Kansas ! Back when I was very young !
Holy guacamole Batman!!! Wow! A eight reale!!! Glad the camera was rolling on this find for all the world to see!!! Thank You Jesus!!!! Great content as always!!!😊❤
You make me dream of buried treasure. I live in our ancestral home, built here in VT sometime between 1791 and 1810. I have a Large Cent. Finding an 8 Reale! I have coins my family saved down through the years. I think Vermonters always made sure they had their butts covered for a rainy day. That’s what I was taught, growing up on the farm. I love the history! I wonder about that keyhole marked “8”. I know modern keys often carry the number of the lock they fit into. Love your videos! I love our history.
Confidence in the coinage was as important as the intrinsic value of the coin, that is why many countries would replicate the effigies of Roman coinage.
I find a bit of jewelry from the late 1800/early 1900s. It always amazes me how small people were in that time period. Excellent work; awesome hunt! Thank you for taking us along
Love the new slide bar and visual indicators when you are on target! Wonderful how you continue to educate us all as you uncover the history that surrounds us! Love your videos, excited with anticipation for every Friday edition.
stunning find. one of the best coins i've ever seen dug in a metal detecting video and i've watched hundreds and hundreds. it's in such good condition, tons of detail!
Congrats, Vern, on your 8 reales! Great day hunting for old treasures! Coppers and a big key escutcheon! I couldn't complain! Keep on digging, Brad. Catch you on the next. ✌️ 😊

I, along with Ed truly enjoyed this episode.?. We’ve enjoyed your podcast’s. You’re not kidding the Holy Grail… super amazing the 18TH Century etc. keep em coming See you in Vermont, next time!
Great finds, you can tell when coins have been in the ground for years or newly planted for discovery. Which one stands out like a sore thumb 14:25. ??
First time viewer....i cannot express how pleasant it is that you leave out the drab, the boring, and the waste of time, and get right down to the finds and information. Thank you. I will subscribe
Suuuuuuuuch a great find Brad! Talk about a lucky swing by vern though... he only came over to see your find. That's happened a few times with the dudes and it's always awesome and the unexpected finds are the coolest. No 8 Reale for us yet... but we'll get there! Keep up the great work.
Another great video and the eight reales find was a fantastic moment. The second George 3rd halfpenny, slightly undersized and with the ponytail possibly William 3rd? Andy
The sliding bar indicator is great.

What a beautiful coin . O my good stuff. Blessings
I love how well the silver coins survive in the ground. 230years old and beautiful! Finding those coins must be such a wicked feeling.
Yup. Almost too well. Without a spot of any Vermont patina. Squeaky clean in fact. Almost like it was lost ten minutes ago.
Almost
@@factorybear5264 Very suspect...
Patina on silver? You mean copper?
Silver and gold do not decay in the ground
I'm at home recovering from an operation. It is very comforting to hear your music and be able to watch your adventures. Keep up the good work.
@clarkabrpi3428, Being conscious that I was still breathing air was very comforting when I woke up. I hope you're feeling better.
