My aunts sometimes refer to themselves as “the Karens”, mostly when aunt Kitty initiates an impromptu bic lighter karaoke session. Im’ma just call you when I can ( most likely and not often as i could )Love ya”ll
This is the only band in the world that could record an entire album in one take with no post production and still sound frigging amazing. I LOVE CAKE.
I used to play a lot of the auxillary percussion parts in band from 5th to senior year and for the life of me I couldn't remember the name of that. I do remember the flexatone, though. I'm getting old. :( Glory days and all that.
This song came out 20 years ago this year and it's still incredibly catchy. The thing about Cake is that a LOT of their earlier music was written in a similar fashion, which is why this was also a massive hit when it first came out in 2001.
I love music like this! What a great sound! It has the Vibraslap!!! I love the Vibraslap. Weird Al uses it in some of his songs. I love the trumpet and the bass parts too. John McCrea's style is ballsy. He kinda raps, kinda sings, just does his own thing. It's fantastic!
2:25 "With fingernails that shine like joohh. So, and he wants a girl withthu buthers fath" Killer performance, but I couldn't keep it together right there. These guys are great xD
imagine that! saw them live in 2004 at a festival and they were the only band with a good engineer apparently, because i don't even remember who else was there
Great job, sounds great live as well as album version 😀so many people everywhere have loved this song since I was in highschool 2004-2007 & it's Still awesome. Such classic unique unapologetic music for the sake of making music. They don't make it this good now I swear!!
Great song,Tight band and I want one too!!! Check out the Emma Peel tribute put to this song. That’s why I’m here, she was the Queen of thorns but mainly Emma Peel : )
this is so awesome! the bass, the guitar, the rolling cobra sounds, the vocals.. the drummer.. the back vocals. and no smiles! aahh./ and the trumpet guy! I love this song and how they play!! Thank you guys! I keep returning to your music since I heard you in Phoenix in 2000
"Fingernails that shine like justice". Never heard of glossy nails as a metaphor for justice before, but it's a great lyric. Kind of like saying her lipstick radiates truth.
I am a retired mechanical engineer, so I think that all good music stopped in the 1960's, right? WRONG. Good music is still being created, and here is such an example, thus I have 'favourited' (that's a new word for y'all) it on Spotify. If you like this, might I suggest you take a listen to Toast by Streetband.
He's still incredibly talented. He writes most of the songs, all of which are INCREDIBLE, both from a compositional standpoint and a lyrical one. As for his voice, it's an acquired taste, and this isn't a great representation of how good he really is. He's a bass, and yet in "Wheels," he sings an A4, which is certainly a tenor note. (Though no Mercury-esque F5's out of this one.) His voice isn't so much beautiful or pleasing as it is entertaining and interesting.
Holy. This is soo incredibly good and the groove (singer, Drums, beginning, else) is just freakin me out. My sister and I used to Listen to this as Kids. This Band influenced me a lot. My sister and I dont get along too well right now. It's been a while. Please cake! Come to germany or at least europe soon. And I will take my sister to the concert for us to be friends again ❤ Otherwise i need to take her to ed sheeran if you dont come. your choice
They're just cool, no way around it. Always my easy listening because mostly I listen to nu-metal, alt/prog and post grunge. Their excellence is undeniable.
This band is so tight and smooth that's it's ridiculous. The backup vocals, the bass line, the drums... It's all so good.
Fingernails that shine like justice and a voice that's dark like tinted glass.
Pop music doesn't get much better than this.
Fact
This is what today’s radio is missing.
"She's changing her name from Kitty to Karen/She's trading her MG for a white Chrysler LeBaron" might be my favorite rock couplet of all time.
Me too! A white Chrysler LeBaron….😂😂😂
The Lebaron was a great car.
My aunts sometimes refer to themselves as “the Karens”, mostly when aunt Kitty initiates an impromptu bic lighter karaoke session. Im’ma just call you when I can ( most likely and not often as i could )Love ya”ll
That's the evolution of his fantasy.
I would have never traded the MG...
This is the only band in the world that could record an entire album in one take with no post production and still sound frigging amazing.
I LOVE CAKE.
I think Trout Mask Replica was done in one take and it is amazing, no doubt but amazing can mean a few things.
Everything individually sounds so simple, and then collectively it's like ... wait what? Yes indeed, LOVE CAKE!
Word
Vibraslap
@@peterdavies5358 it was
cake's bass lines are cool as always. this bass dude is very underrated
Agreed. And I always thought the guitar was cool af too. Tone is badass, not really "distorted" but just really saturated and groovy.
@@ScoreFromAugusta Their sound design is just amazing. Every instrument has a carved-out niche in the overall product.
Is the ‘underrated’ comment mandatory because there always is one and it seldom makes sense?
Also, are there extra points for adding ‘criminally’?
@@dewimatthews Thank you. I am sure a Led Zeppelin clip somewhere is accompanied by "John Bonham is such an underrated drummer."
All their compositions are sweet. Their tones badasssss
That drummer is so fucking solid
Let's not forget Gabe on the bass. You can't have one without the other. They anchor the band.
🤦♂️
Most definitely 🥁
In 50 years people gonna talk about Cake and the quality of his music.
Libreria Bazar Lucy Cake is not a him, it’s a they!
Cake!
43 years to go
Such a tight and polished performance . Completely authentic and world class
A song that can stand the rest of time for $1000, Alex.
Can never get tired of listing to this tune
They aren't a duplicate. This is called originality. 👏
The tune is partly taken from the Velvet Underground's "Sweet Jane".
🤦♂️
@@Haldurson Sounds nothing like Sweet Jane.
It's 2022, and this never gets old!
the drummer is having a blast
you can tell these guys love playing this song lol. as a band, you just have those songs you love to play cuz they're so catchy
Cakes drummer is F'ing Outstanding!!!
I like the chemistry with these guys, definitely their best song to date.
I really love that touring the facility line. It just fits perfectly
Not only is she touring the facility--she's also picking up slack.
That makes her *doubly* badass.
One of the best live bands I have seen! On point live as much as studio.
They actually recorded the album live in the studio,no overdubs or post production.
The song that inspired me to become a vibraslap player.
Now I want to buy a vibraslap! 😀
I used to play a lot of the auxillary percussion parts in band from 5th to senior year and for the life of me I couldn't remember the name of that. I do remember the flexatone, though. I'm getting old. :( Glory days and all that.
Thank you for let me know the name of the instrument without google it! Kudos to you!
Their cover of, I Will Survive, is one of my favorite songs. Put their spin on it and it’s perfect
It's 2022 and I STILL LOVE THIS BAND!!!!!
Great band, wicked bass lines.
This song came out 20 years ago this year and it's still incredibly catchy. The thing about Cake is that a LOT of their earlier music was written in a similar fashion, which is why this was also a massive hit when it first came out in 2001.
this bass line is awesome.
Na Nana na na na naaa. Vibra slap. Love this so much
Again, again! Performed so precise! Go guys, professional women
Very harmonics, very synchronized...... Loved this band since young...
The bass and backups are awesome I love it!
Love it. Got to see Cake in a club in Madison in maybe '93. The band outnumbered the crowd. Fantastic tiny show. thanks...
2:25 "With fingernails that shine like joohh. So, and he wants a girl withthu buthers fath" Killer performance, but I couldn't keep it together right there. These guys are great xD
Wow a band that sounds good live
imagine that! saw them live in 2004 at a festival and they were the only band with a good engineer apparently, because i don't even remember who else was there
With eyes that burn like cigarettes… best line ever
I want more Cake...such a brilliant band 👍
Class song...class performance
And that bass line kills

KROQ....damn...it'll go down as one of the greats along with KGB-FM (San Diego) and KMET (LA).
this is so awesome! the bass, the guitar, the rolling cobra sounds, the vocals.. the drummer.. the back vocals. and no smiles! aahh./ and the trumpet guy! I love this song and how they play!! Thank you guys! I keep returning to your music since I heard you in Phoenix in 2000
I agree with everything you said! But wanted to say the “cobra sound” is called a Vibraslap, it’s the same instrument used in crazy train
Thank you Dallas!
And I forgot cowbell!!!
Ahhh okay...
Beyond genius song.
"Fingernails that shine like justice". Never heard of glossy nails as a metaphor for justice before, but it's a great lyric. Kind of like saying her lipstick radiates truth.

Listening now, thanks.
I like it already :)
"..she is touring the facility and picking up slack.." makes me laugh inside, *every* time.
Damn fine live performance. Looks like they're having fun.
I LOVE THIS BAND!!! I've never had the opportunity to see them live :(
That drummer is sharp as fuck
Very talented...kickass.
ya bands like Cake and Soul Coughing had those super slick, super tight rhythm sections. created dope danceable, COOL music.
My kids say this is ME! I would argue the prosperity, but heck yeah!! ❤❤❤
HAWT!
Going to see them this Thursday
How was the concert? I'm considering driving many hours to see them in a couple of weeks.
They’re AMAZING… and will always be…🔥❤️🔥🔥
Wow! Great musicians!
This is simply awesome.
They are awesome live!!
LOVE the Sweet Jane riff

Wow, better than even the album version. So glad they hit it with this song. What a great band!

These guys make me proud to be from Sacramento… 🤟🔥
And yet, you should be ashamed to be an American.
This is seriously bad ass!
Great song. Makes me want to watch reruns of Chuck
Es el único grupo que estoy escuchando en 2024
That bassist always amazes me
Dat bass! Tight and fat. Sweet groove with the drums.
So simple yet perfect.
Such a unique band! No band is like them!
Smash Mouth are just as good 😊❤
Cake is, quite simply, fun.
What does the lead guitarist's T-shirt say?
This is freaking amazing:i
I play music myself and i say, this is so much musicality
After 9 years, you deserve a thumbs up, lol.
luv them so much always put me in a good mood!
That bassline is killer.
They're just cool, no way around it. Always my easy listening because mostly I listen to nu-metal, alt/prog and post grunge. Their excellence is undeniable.
Oh he's going to make it in the Vibraslap Hall of Fame...just as soon as I open it in beautiful downtown Battle Creek, Michigan...
That drum beat kills as-well
WE NEED MORE COWBELL!
Really explore the space!
Bagus juga keren gk ada lawan Retroo banget,.come on to Bali Indonesian country,.. Verry good music Cake internasional 😁😁😁💯
Short skirt, and a long jacket...say no more 💞
Eyes that burn like cigarettes, fucken gold
I could Cake for days.
Best song ever.
I think it's hilarious how their trumpet player looks eerily similar to John Casey here.
Our thought was so that I thought !!!
