This is not so much a review as an enlightenment of a potentially musically inspiring product for all us bedroom musicians!
This was also a good excuse for trying out the video capabilites on my Mac too ;)

Just picked up a Triple Play...astonishing...been waiting for this for over 25 years. :) Great demo...amazing original work. I realize this is 2 years ago but let me ask you this...WHY IN GODS NAME WOULD YOU MUTE A TOTALLY KILLER GUITAR SOLO LIKE THAT? :)
Are you talking about the final track? I just wanted to show the bits underneath I played with the triple play. I'm still working on that damn song after nearly 5 years lol guess it's time to get busy and finish it very soon! Thank for the comment and feedback. I might do another video on some useful thing I've discovered recently about the triple play .
+Stephen Harrison Yeah...unmute the guitar track...its killer. 5 years? Get with it son! :) BTW, what Wah were you using...nice midrange filter. I use a Scuffham Guitar Plugin...excellent...UK bloke living in Estonia developed it.
Love it. I really dig the end song too. I'll be buying this soon along with a MACPRO so I can orchestrate all the ideas I have on a guitar. I can hardly wait!

I also bought Triple Play. I do not know how to play the keyboard, but good playing guitar for about 15 years. For a guitar player is the best way to work with the synths, orchestral instruments

Thanks, yes the TriplePlay software is setup to support it and the package even includes Guitar Rig Elements for this.
I didn't use it in the video because I had problems routing the audio to record while capturing the screen at the time.

ok now how do you connect this to a signal chain to an amp for live situations without having a separate output for this ?
No,but you can record the midi to your daw and have the midi info come out your daw and into your hardware synths. Maybe in realtime. Not sure on that one. I wish they made it like the sonuus i2m for guitar and bass.Besides that this is polyphonic and seems to have beter tracking. Not to mention the midi sound per string. Something that until now only the Roland VG systems could do at $1500.
Everything has latency.
Is it bad though? no it's actually very impressive indeed. You can tweak the settings to your liking.
There are hardware issues, like losing connection if theres much in the line of sight of the transmitter and reciever and a few bugs where it flips to some crazy tuning and such but I can forgive these woes as this is hands down (for home recording) the best way to play midi on your guitar.
The Tripleplay will pickup whatever your guitar is tuned too obviously, even low tunings though tracking can get sketchy in B lol.
As for keeping the guitar in standard and letting the tuning happen in the software. The Tripleplay software doesn't support this (i dont think) but its everywhere within Cubase and Kontakt and i'm sure the plugin you use will do transposing. You will just have to do the math as to what each channel should be set too.

Fantastic video/demo! So, here we are 9yrs later; still in use/functional? I am considering an aftermarket purchase, but am concerned about native software availability/updates and license transfer; any recommendations at this point?
So after 10 years! I don't really use the Tripleplay much anymore, I'm looking to sell it in the future soon. Basically what I will do these days is (remember I can't play keys, I don't even know any chord shapes) fumble about on the keys to get the input into the DAW and then edit it from there. I 'll even record audio from a guitar and use a feature in cubase that turns that audio to midi and edit that, but thats only good for melody lines. There are Somethings you can't do without the triple play though, flowing, slightly complex piano lines for example. I kinda don't like having the bracket on a guitar if I'm not using the triple play for a long time. Long story short, I can get by without it using other methods. I might even buy another rockband pro guitar.
Actually I just heard from a person at Fishman who said you can send midi to harware midi keyboards but probably through your computer first.

look, do you know if one could use only a midi pickup to go direct to the computer, or if a midi interface is always needed, like the Roland GR, GKsystem. It seems that with the triple play, the manage to do it everything in one device! Great!
This one just uses a USB dongle and that's it.
Can I assign, like, one or two different instruments for each string? Maybe assign an ensemble on the A string, with piano on D and flute on G, something like that? Or do I have to use all the strings for a single instrument or "preset" every time? Great video, thanks. I'm excited about getting one of these anyways, I bet it would refine and reinvent my playing...
You only limited by the software you use. The tripleplay software does splits on the fretboard but it would also be simple in something like Kontakt where you can load many instruments and assign them their own midi channel 1-6

Beautiful intro Harry! I too have a couple of 'difficult' composition 18 mths old. I hear these cool melody/beats at 3am which solves all but the entire thing turns to custard come daylight. :-[. Do you still use thumbs but if kit and if you do has fishman given upgrades that make it all worthwhile. If so this could be my new world ... :-)
Don't know what happened with that last sentence but. Again ..."do you still use this bit of kit and if so does fishman do regular software upgrades ?"

Kinda! I say that because I already have Komplete Ultimate 8 with full version of Kontakt and Guitar Rig, The Fishman Triple play comes with cut down versions of both. If your talking about my original song at around 8:15 ish I was trying to demonstrate how I personaly use the Triple play (strings) and was using a mixture of Kontakt VSL strings and Session Strings i believe. Great video. I just got minne yesterday. I can't seem to get it to work though.
The software finds the pickup but I can't get any sound and the red, yellow and green lights don't indicate anything.
Anyone had this problem and now the solution?
Hey there. First thing I would check is to see if the switch on the pickup is set to MIX SYTH or GUITAR.
Hahaha I'm ashamed. Pickup height was off. Changed the bracket and I'm good now.

Awesome vid! What are you using for your strings, as in your violin and cello sound? And where can I get them?
Did the splilt of the fretboard, assigning of different strings to different things etc. translate into cubase, or were you limited to one synth/midichannel at a time while tracking? Also did pitch bends translate across different software?

Thanks for making this. Is there support for custom tunings in the software, like the Roland VG series? I suppose there's a MIDI driver so it shows up in DAWs? In that case it should be easy to make a transposer in Max. Nice rendition of the Monkey Island theme btw. =)

Looking to get one of these, but the space between my pickup and bridge is almost nothing. I would probably have to router out a little and move my pickup.
The smallest bracket you get with the Tripleplay is 9mm wide
I just about squeezed it between my PRS SE tremolo bridge and the bridge pickup ring.
It's snug.

there's actually two triple play models available in stores... triple play and triple play PRO TRP 301..do U know the differences??

Max Fontana I have Tripleplay Pro TRP 3EX. I'm guessing they just revised the materials and design baised on feedback and maybe further improvements in cost of construction. There is a possibility the current model 301 does more and even improves wireless signal but I don't know. 301 is the latest version according to the website.

Do you have to activate software as I've heard some are having problems with this?
Honestly it’s been many years since I first got this but I just got a band new MacBook Pro and dont remember having to activate it.

Hi, it was a real guitar with Guitar Rig as amp modelling. I wanted to show the orchestration in the song and the context I intend to use it in. All the lines of the orchestra were mostly improvisation and noodling using the triple play and just so happens to be the best thing i've written and will probably ever write :)

Because some people were telling me some of Konatks VSTis were made with the midi piano in mind and not the guitar which is why I was afraid one might not be able to achieve the full range of sounds that a VST had

If you play guitar then Fishman triple play is hands down the best option in my opinion. There's nothing it can't do on a technical level. It's only limited by you VST collection and guitar playing. Even then you can edit the midi after and multitrack to your liking.

Other composers that I have talked to said the only thing is the editing.
With a keyboard they said the CC knobs and faders are extremely useful in composing orchestral or cinematic scores.
How did you do what the CC knobs would do with your guitar without the CC knobs and faders? Is it easier or harder doing it without the CC knobs and faders?
+Gene Zhao Not sure what you mean by CC faders but when you bend the string its just like pressing a key on a keyboard and using a mod wheel. It's just midi and it's all there only controlled with a guitar.

They are a mixture of strings from Komplete 8 ultimate. session strings and Kontakt, guitar rig for guitars and studio drummers for drums. thanks :)

Microsoft tablets like surface I would say yes. Android....i'm not so sure. It's been years since I had an android device.

What's the delay like? is there any wired version if it's slow
The lower the frequency of the note the more delay there is. I would state that delay is not an issue at all though so don’t worry about that.

I saw this video ... but it's different in version 8.5. I cant find TriplePlay FX plugin
Zdravko Marković ok you must be a new user using the tripleplay software version 1.4 which came out a couple for weeks ago. They got rid of the FX plugin for some reason. So now you will have to open the fishman triple plugin as an Instrument track. If you were able to install and earlier version of the software then upgrade to 1.4 you would have both plugins available.
