thank you for playing it without their software, no one else has done that. I have been considering using tripleplay with NI Kontakt. you showed me enough that it just might work.
I have a Sonuus midi converter and a Roland divided pickup* with a Boss guitar synth (had GR-55 synth too), and there are just TWO rules to follow to get the best tracking: 1. Install and set up properly (including the distance from the bridge, from the strings etc.) 2. Always play the guitar like you would play the instrument you're emulating. In other words, if you have a cello sound, forget about fast sweep picking. It takes a while to get use to it, and you gotta low tinkering with 'knobs', which is why a typical guitar player generaly hates guitar synths :) Still, the nice collateral is that you need to clean up your playing to get the best out of a guitar synth - which is only a good thing! I wonder, though, whether Fishman can be mounted up-side-down - Roland pickup can if you're using GP-10, GR-55 and VG-88, so the cable doesn't get in the way. *It's built-in (the kit version), so no bulky thing mounted. Still needs the 13-pin cable.

The BOSS SY-300 isn't a midi controller but after watching this it's still the only choice for live use if you need synth guitar. I wish more people knew what a game changer it is and maybe it's used price would go down. I'd love to have a midi controller but it's just not perfected.
Thanks for another excellent vid. I have a Roland GR55 controlled from the Roland internally installed GK-KIT-GT3. I permanently installed it in an Ibanez GIO gsa60. It's great but you do have the 13 pin "big assed" cable. Now if Roland went wireless, say with a small modular transmitter plugging into the 13 pin socket on the guitar and a receiver on the GR55 etc then you've pretty well cracked it, assuming it can deal with a live stage enviroment.
I've had 2 Roland guitar synth systems and this thing blows them away. I don't like using this with a computer or an iPad so to me, plugging the TP into a sound module is the way to go.
Can't find the timestamp where you discuss it, but if you want to take the Computer out of the equation and go straight from the USB cable to MIDI controllable synths/keys/anything etc, try the Kenton MIDI-USB Box
You don't have to use a laptop live if you want to run your signal to a hardware synth, by the way. Just use something like Kenton USB MIDI host and you are good to go.
I was so frustrated using TP with soft synths from my iPad and I gave up on it for about 3 years. I recently dug it back out and plugged it into a Midi sound module and I'm loving it!
I know this is an old video but I wish there was a follow-up after more time had been spent on the unit. For example, MIDI out to a keyboard is easily done using the FC-1 foot control and many of the glitches in the reviews only required a 30-second adjustment. I gave up on getting any kind of help from Fishman so my Triple Play has been sitting in a box for over 2 years. I'm hoping an other-than-Fishman tutorial would help!
glad to see you looking at the fishman. i actually used it live going thru an ipad mini with the usb stick going into the camera adaptor on the ipad and using sampletank to do a synth. its a great product but like you i don't like putting crap on my guitar. i believe Godin makes a guitar with this built in.
Hi there, the setup you described is how I plan on using mine. Do you recall if the native app sounds and/or synths run in the background, or must they be front and center when in operation on an iPad? Also, do you DI the iPad output signal, or would I even need an additional preamp when running to a mixer/PA?
Hi. How fast does this pickup track? How precise is it? I play fast thrash metal riffs and need some orchestral/tron backing to make them sound dramatic. Will this pickup track fast playing and riffs/chords? I tried MGII by Jam Origin and I got to say it's less than great and tracks awfully. I've heard people compare it to this pickup. So is this pickup as "good" JO MGII, or is it actually really precise/fast - like the EHX 9 series or better...?
Thank you for this video. Can you tell me whether I can use the TriplePlay Wireless MIDI also with iPhone (not iPad)? I'd expect it to run with any Bluetooth MIDI compatible device, so it should work with iPhone too, right?
Very appreciated your work I have a question for you plz hope you can help me,can i use the triple play as an wireless system?i have line6 pedal and need to activated threw the triple play wireless to play without jack on the effects of the line6 is there a way?
I would be interested in your opinion of the Boss Sy1000....they say a major firmware update is coming in December...it looks interesting...until then I am very pleased with the FTP...Thanks...B.
Note that the Boss SY-1000 is a "13-pin" guitar synthesizer. However, it features a USB-port (USB-B connector). Maybe it will accept MIDI from the USB-port of the FC-1 foot controller, likely not directly from the Triple Play receiver. (The same will likely apply to the Roland GR-55.)
@@marcusstrymon693 Do you refer to the Jamstik Studio (a MIDI guitar) or to its lesser siblings? There are several videos on the Jamstik Studio here on RUclips. - As I replied to a question in Italian or Spanish: a B-brand Stratocaster plus Triple Play plus the matching FC-1 pedal is cheaper than a bare Jamstik Studio. However, the latter has MIDI both wired and via Bluetooth. Which comes in handy with an iPad as a stompbox. (But don't use Bluetooth for both In and Out of your mobile device: too much latency.)

Well, the guitars with a 13-pin connector don't themselves send MIDI: they merely send the analog acoustic signals separately to a matching Roland/Boss device. - A device like the Jamstik Studio could directly input to notation software, I think. And any guitar (with metal strings...) via Triple Play.
If you don't bother to install it properly and use the software provided, of course it will not work properly. If you want to see the tripleplay working as intended then watch any other video about it. Use the proper height on the pickup and adjust it properly. Sadly this is the worst video Henning has made. Shame as his stuff is normally funny and worth a watch.
He's buries the meters in the red and wonders why the pitch slips by a half step. He then tries to play a funky riff using the most unsuitable patch I could imagine, and says "you can't play it like a guitar".
I think you're correct- but I actually like this, as it's showing us what to expect if you don't set it up (and use it) properly. What I mean is, it's showcasing the unit's limitations nicely. There are lots of other videos showing it working perfectly- and those made me wonder, "Yeah, but will it work like that FOR ME?" and this is a good example of the kind of snags to look out for. (Face it- he just got a little too anxious to check it out, which is probably what I would have done too!) It's "good science"- in that, just because the experiment sort of failed, we still learned what DIDN'T work, and that's always useful.
I agree. Guitar synths are not something you can slap together and do a demo. Pretty much all those problems & glitches can be corrected in minutes. Even the sustained synth note wasn't from the system being stuck - the open string was left sustaining. It's too bad he didn't spend a couple hours with it then do a follow-up video!
I have to say that I did not work well in 6 months I have it, I really think it is a device in beta phase, and I think it will continue to be at least for about 10 more years ,,, NOT RECOMMENDED AT ALL ,needs constant support service
Latest version of the SW for the controller is great. Bends can be setup in the config to smooth. Been using is for several months with the EW libraries (ALL 10,000 INSTRUMENTS OF THEM), AIR and UVI instruments. Tracks very well, latency is almost ZERO. So for those who have it update your controller and its stable as all hell. CLEAN TECHNIQUE AND PLAYING IS A MUST. The rest of you whiners should just shut up. :)
A slightly cheaper version of a Roland GR55 only here you get bugger all in relation to one (LOL) Please do not tell me the GR55 cannot do what this does, cause my Bro as one and trust me for the extra few bucks it leaves this thing standing in the dust. Accompanied with a Godin Guitar you will have no issue switching between guitar synth to guitar either. I think it's a good cheaper option for those who cannot afford the extra bucks, but you get a hell of a lot more with the Roland.
Sorry to say it, but the Roland Gr 30 is almost 20 years old, and it has a better tracking. This is nowhere near today's competitors. Wonderful video btw, you went very deep in the demonstration.
***** They all can. All I tried work in the same way, assigning a different channel to each string, to manage the actual note according to chords and to avoid overlaps. You can either edit the midi file to play as a standard midi instrument or edit the midi input to make it listen to all channels, in Kontakt for example is a single click.
ChristianIce, I dont know where you got your info from. I own both and the Tripleplay has MUCH better tracking..... MUCH BETTER, especially on the lower registry of strings like the top e string.
I've had 2 Roland GR systems since the 90s and my TP is way better. I don't like using it with my iPad Pro though. For me plugging into a synth module is the way to go!
Apparently you ignored the first necessary adjustment needed (like the GR 55) : setting the proper level of each string. We can see that you are permently over loading the poor beast ...
How does it work for you? does it track well? To me it seems like a complete no brainer. Even if it has those half step flaws, i could correct them via mouse with like 4 klicks. Compared to my absolute trash keyboard skills that is like a god sent, most times i have to rework midi via mouse completely or compose it via mouse cause I suck so hard on midi keyboard.
@@marcusstrymon693 I was very frustrated when trying to use it with my iPad so I switched to using it with a synth module - simple and awesome. Tracking is great!

What do you mean you can't do splits in the plugin with Cubase? I'm sure Fishman would tell you otherwise! Cubase is fully functional. Also, ALL midi controllers false trigger and sound like shit, like this video, until you adjust the sensitivity, or choose the correct pickup height spacer to compensate to your aggressive touch. They always have and always will.

Triple Play and "Roland 13-pin cable" are different ways of connecting. I can't tell you (yet) which is better at tracking. I have two guitars with 13-pin connector and three bulky pedals (Roland GR-30, GR-55 and Boss SY-1000), but I want to connect to other devices, including iPad, and I'll fit a Stratocaster with Triple Play (and I'll use the matching FC-1 pedal). It will compete with my Jamstik Studio guitar that even features Bluetooth MIDI but is simpler as a guitar. - I think that a cheap-brand Strat plus Triple Play plus FC-1 is the least expensive way to equip a guitar with MIDI, cheaper than the Jamstik Studio alone.

Hi! Great demo. Can I address any virtual instruments in my industry standard DAW like Propellerhead Reason for example? THNX!
yes, that should be possible
I have to say that I did not work well in 6 months I have it, I really think it is a device in beta phase, and I think it will continue to be at least for about 10 more years ,,, NOT RECOMMENDED AT ALL ,needs constant support service
thank you for the review, rock onn, they did make the pedal for it, perhaps another review with the pedal.. ~GO~
that guitar is crazy. what fender is that?
I❤THIS VIDEO (U R VERY SMART & FUNNY) AMAZING!🎸
Hold my beer, let me grab my calculator and protractor...
ZERO ! instead to drink your coffee, you should RTFM before making a review.
I've had 2 Roland guitar synths and the TP blows them both away! I have my TP plugged into a Roland Integra 7 synth module.
Can this be used on an electric bass?
Thanks for the video. East West seems to sound from all 6 strings but Kontakt sounds only on 1 string. Not sure why.
You need to change the midi channel to onmi or all on Kontakt. Alternatively you can switch the TP to poly mode
Sorry to say it, but the Roland Gr 30 is almost 20 years old, and it has a better tracking.
This is nowhere near today's competitors.
Wonderful video btw, you went very deep in the demonstration.
The tracking seems to pick up muted strings. Sounds fine otherwise.
ChristianIce in other videos the tracking seems really great. not sure why he's having issues in this video.
*****
They all can.
Are there any sensitivity settings.
I think you play very strong ropes so it is not properly sound in some occasions
I hope this thing will last with all that coffee saliva on it. Yeah, I'm one of those "clean freak" handwashers.
@@marcusstrymon693 don't try to get help from Fishman though!
@@hienvu1714 I figured that guitar Midi is really limited anyway compared to actual keyboard midi. Didnt get the fisherman, money was well invested for piano lessons thonhaha
I can play keyboards quite well EXCEPT when it comes to lead parts. After 50+ years of playing guitar, I can play most lead parts without much effort. I can not do that on keyboards and probably never will!
To have e reliable solution you need to adjust the configuration !
Does anyone know if this works with mpc standalone devices like the mpc one or mpc x?
Sounds pretty decent, but €345 decent? I don't think so.
I agree. It's worth realistically around £135 and no more.
Quincey Van Den Berg watch some other videos. this is one of the worst demos I've ever seen. not sure why he's having issues here but it a better product than this example demonstrates
Not being funny but for the money they are charging for this you may as well buy an ACPAD. Honestly this thing is pants.
The ACPAD is not a comparable product. The Roland GK-3 would be.
sounds? this thing doesnt "sound" at all, its a controller.
im confused too, if its Binary, what Chord is my IP address?
168.256.1.42
That would be Cmaj7/#11
but only if the hub is running php through a 12 year old router in Beijing
+EytschPi42 😁 I had it all wrong
+EytschPi42 duh, 256 is not a valid number for an IP address (8bit) , translated to a chord it would be more like an Cmaj7/#-11.5 ;-P
Jan Minor this is going to get complicated 😁
Hahaha. Great musician vs tech humor. Thank you for that :)
Woah totally useful product. 5 stars.. .. . .......
please tell me that how can I install fishman triple play pick up to my Jackson series A guitar ?
Follow the directions and mount the pickup between your bridge and the bridge puckup.
Nice home diner mug
Nice review, but I think the Boss SY-300 does a much better job. It´s all in a stompbox, and you don´t have to mount anything on your guitar.
Thomas Burkhard yes but they are different things. SY-300 uses subtractive synthesis and is not MIDI.
They always have and always will.
how about Midi Guitar 2?
Tell me more
You mention girlfriend, but I thought Leslie was your wife? no wedding ring in this video.. got divorced? Unless the ring was just for decoration this whole time.. :-O if so, well played! you had me fooled :)
Leslie is my girlfriend.... but we have rings.... I went climbing and had to take it off.... wow... the stuff you see!
Ah I see! I have watched a lot of your videos, so I have noticed the ring since it is on your fretting hand. I only looked for the ring when you mentioned girlfriend instead of wife, otherwise I would have never noticed the minor omission of the ring.
You actually don't have to use a computer if you're using a keyboard or the pedal etc
wo gibts das T-Shirt? :D
Das würde mich auch brennend interessieren!
hab ich von meinem Schwiegervater... keine Ahnung
Bends depend on the istrument your using pianos & Xylophone's dont bend ...Synth sounds have Pitch bend so they will Bend like guitar
Did you see what the @nickjitsu is douing with it? Your quick assumptions about the usefullness of this unit are just … too early. But what can anyone do with something so complicated in a few moments ...?
THey have a footswitch for this. You don't need your laptop anymore on stage,.
Might be better off with a YRG.
You didnt prepare properly for the demo.😢😢
I didn't know Phil Collins demo guitar mitti, Also thanks I'm sticking with my Roland GR55.. that thing ain't ready yet maybe they get the bugs out by one day
You can use a Kenton USB to Midi. You wont need a laptop!
And how do you run the multiple software that come with the TriplePlay? You absolutely need a laptop to get to Kontact VST, and Notes, etc.
Warum sieht die Strat aus, als wär sie aus 'ner Ikea Küchenarbeitsplatte gesägt worden? :D
What the fuck did you just call me?!?
Great video! Thanks man. I'm having a few problems with tracking inside the stand alone program but hopefully I can figure that one out.
I'm confused about the EastWest bundle that ships with the TpiplePlay. The creat the impression that it comes with the EW MIDI Guitar
Instrument Series. I got in touch with their with EastWest which, even though they were helpful, left me more confused 'cause I couldn't
get a straight answer ........ so ...... much scratching in the cranial region!!
Anyhow! I really enjoyed your video and your sense of humour, if the music doesn't work out you could always become a comedian !!
Oh and STOP biting your nails for fuck sake !! Catch you later ..........
so are these people fish or men? i'm confused
Probably neither, maybe they fish for men ...could be something religious, or something sexual ...or both.
Meglio questo o roland gk3
Triple Play and "Roland 13-pin cable" are different ways of connecting. I can't tell you (yet) which is better at tracking. I have two guitars with 13-pin connector and three bulky pedals (Roland GR-30, GR-55 and Boss SY-1000), but I want to connect to other devices, including iPad, and I'll fit a Stratocaster with Triple Play (and I'll use the matching FC-1 pedal). It will compete with my Jamstik Studio guitar that even features Bluetooth MIDI but is simpler as a guitar. - I think that a cheap-brand Strat plus Triple Play plus FC-1 is the least expensive way to equip a guitar with MIDI, cheaper than the Jamstik Studio alone.
that's a lot of talking :)
...it sure is!
This guy is all over the place. Not a great review for half an hour of content.
Most of his videos are like this. He has a massive inferiority complex.
Fuck you I like him , he's honest
@@rajgopinoth4241 well shit raj, since you like him I take it back.
It sounds like a Casio keyboard from the 80's😣😣😣
This thing looks really unreliable. It kinda sucks imo.
This is - with great distance - the ugliest Strat I have ever seen!
wtf? that strat looks great
everybody who watches this knows what midi is you don't have to explain it. WHAT? you haven't figured out how to do pitch bends yet? invest some time into learning how the product works before reviewing it.
+Digital Insan1ty actually, many guitar player don’t know what Midi is and how it works. Don’t think because you do, others know as well. As soon as you assume that people know something, you make videos that won’t be clear to many viewers
@@EytschPi42 - "everybody knows what midi is"- this guy sounds like a cork sniffer to me. I for one didn't know that bit about midi because I haven't been interested enough to look it up. I figured if anyone could get my interest in this it would be you, thanks for the review. I will research further.
Couldn't get through it, too much jibber jabber and the coffee BS at the beginning. Thanks for the review though.
Says C Major when he plays a D major. 😂😂😂😂 what a joke
yeah, that clearly makes me a horrible musician... so I guess all those teachers at Berklee had no idea when they gave me a summa cum laude in a dual major. Why would you even comment like this? What do you get out of it?
terrible uninformed review
Hm also ich bin echt fasziniert was es da so alles gibtinzwischen zumal ich sowas jetzt das erste mal gesehen habe... aber es erinnert mich einfach alles an die 80iger und 90iger filmmusik :D
How well does it work on an acoustic?
Just fine, maybe even better because we don't try to go as crazy on an acoustic guitar :)
