Interesting fact. The part of the song near the end “father in to your hand, I commit my spirit” is a bible verse that Serj (lead singer) got while in Rick Rubins house and picked up a book from the shelf which was a bible and opened it up to that verse. He then used it in the song. Chop Suey named because they wouldn’t let them use Suicide title, so it’s a play on Suey cide and the funky rhythm of the song… hence, Chop Suey
They told them to "chop" the name hence chop suey I believe
Ur right! It is interesting! I never knew this
Yes it is in the bible that Jesus while on the cross he said that 'Father into your hand I commit my spirit.' 'Father why have you forsaken me.' And God doesn't want his angel to fall or deserve to die.
I didn't know that thanks for sharing man :)
Any song from their self titled album, also the "toxicity " album and "steal this album" all great.
Yes Sirrrr your completely Correct 🏆🔥
Yeah. Mesmerize and Hypnotized were kinda of meh. First 3 albums are fire.
Yeah i actually love all the albums, hypnotize is my favorite
You just named 185 songs 😅
@@jaggedpoppet3921 mezmerize is meh? Blasphemy. Steal this Album meh
Yeah Serj (singer) and Daron (guitarist back up singer) Harmony game is crazy. Both voices blend in so well.
There are videos on yt of each independant track and I have to recommend checking out a "daron only" version...his voice in this song is absolutely angelic and with every chorus it gets even better.
Fax
System of a down are one of the most unique bands of all time. Instantly recognisable even though every song is so very different. Check out “Boom” and “Prison Song” and “BYOB”
toxicity too
Great band
Oh I love prison song😁
Forest
The end of this song has been giving me goosebumps for 20 years, insane that it still gets me so hard.
I remember the first time I heard this about 20 years ago. I was blown away. The lead singer Serj Tankain is also a trained opera singer.
Y'all should check out "Black Hole Sun" by Soundgarden. It's another very popular rock song, the video is trippy as hell.
The video gives a couple eyebrow raisers for sure
Yes this is dope!! Any chris Cornell really. Audio slave
Agreed
It's crazy, I was gonna suggest Soundgarden or Audioslave. 🤘🏻❤️🔥🔥
@@starrdemerest2156 🤘
The drop from the heavy drums and vocal to the melody is iconic. They have alot of good songs like this, truly unique in their genre.
So many great songs from SOD. Toxicity, BYOB, Aerials, Hypnotize, Spiders, Lonely Days, Questions, Sugar…..the list can go on but definitely check one of these out next
in high school, this ROTC friend showed me system of a down the only single time i'd ever been to his "crib"
he's a successful retired army veteran and married, with a job doing carpentry, and he's 3 years younger than me.
SOAD = another band that’s an experience. So many meanings to their music, deeply lyrical and yet so unrefined it’s perfect chaos 100%
Can’t wait for you two to continue down the rabbit hole of this band, they are AMAZING #PIONEERS
A great song by them is Ariels.. such great vocals and a much less chaotic vibe lol
How y’all sit stone-faced to some of the coolest ass songs is beyond me.
System Of Down is probably my favorite group of this sub genre of metal. Neu Metal I guess is what it was called at the time. They push the edge of meniacal crazy. That guy you see on the street that just aint right but when you listen to him he starts making more and more sense. I love the way the song takes you in different directions until inside your kind of madcap laughing.
Music video Sugar 1994 is a trip. You would think they were talking about the current chaos of today but it was made back in the 90s.Also BYOB, Prison Song, and Aerials are great too.
You listen to nu metal
I listen to all types of metal.
I know this is a year after the fact... BUT the original name of the song was to be "Suicide" and they were told not to use that name. SO they 'chopped' it ... Chop Sui.
Chop Suey is a dish you basically make from whatever you have available, which is similar to the multiple styles the song switches between, saw someone already explained the name change but not the meaning behind the new name
Please react to System of a Down - A.T.W.A. (Live )
Please react to System of a down - Toxicity
Love yall. Remember thoughts create reality, create a happy life. Treat ppl as if your talking to yourself. Peace
Its funny after this video yall were like “…Iiii dont know how to feel about that” 😂😂😂. I gotta say im a primarily rap and r&b but i love songs from every genre. I have always loved this song because it is one of the most unique songs out of ANY genre!
Thx for doing my request!! Also gotta do Toxicity and Aerials! 🙏🏽
System of down is great band that makes you think… I think your ready for some Pantera! Domination live in Moscow!
I had read this song was called Chop suey for this reason. While it's a dish that sounds like it was made in Asia it's actually created by an American. So while it appears to be Chinese it's actually American and they use that as an analogy on suicide. How someone appears to be okay but in truth they really weren't.
Armenian brothers. I had an girlfriend that had an Armenian grandmother. She didn't know her birthday. Was celebrated on Valentines Day.
I’ve seen SOA in concert…they’re amazing, their voices are even better live
yall should react to "sugar" it came out in 98 . this is there first song to make it on the radio in 2001
Try “The Hu” Band songs Mongolian Metal… throat singing. I swear you’ve never heard before of throat singing
This band is my alltime number one! Best band ever!!!
i heard somewhere that the name "chop suey" came from the original name that the band could not use which was "suicide". so they ended up "chopping" the name in half resulting in chop "suey" (sui...cide).
all hearsay, but thats what i picked up somewhere.
deer 🦌 dance and forest by system of the downs 🔥🔥🔥
Soul Asylum- Run away Train. It's must listen to! Very powerful message.
Tech N9ne has a joint with Serj Tankian, the lead singer. Called straight out of the gate.
The song is about how when people die, they are regarded differently depending on the way they pass. Say somebody died from a drug overdose, people would say they deserved it because they abused drugs, hence the line “angels deserve to die”.
"Chop" is for the way the guitar adn battery are played, suey is for suic...
Dope. Toxicity and Sugar are good songs too (use their music videos). Love the work legends!
Toxicity by System of a Down! You guys will love it more
Just let the feelings flow
rick rubin describes the time and how the singer of system found the lyrics at the end "Father. Why have you forsaken..." etc. on that joe rogan podcast.
The band originally wanted to name the track "Suicide" or similar but the label didn't allow it. So they changed it to "Chop Suey(cide)" as a play on words. That's why in the middle they are eating Chinese food with a smug on their face.
Fun fact: this song, like other songs by various bands in the 2001 radio stations registry, were banned since this single was published months ago before the 9/11 attack, causing the press to create controversy of the song since talks about death and suicide, adding the line that accompanies each stanza "I cry when angels deserve to die"
this shit hard my peeps love recklezz keep em goin
drink whenever dude says "know what im saying". great song, great reaction
System of a Down has political messages... but this one "Chopsuey!" (Chinese noodles dish) is typical of their sound... brash, unpredictable, and catchy as hell... the lyrics were just a mix of the death of Christ and random everyday thought process... 😂 They have a crazy sense of humor, especially if u hear SOAD songs like 'Cigaro' ... 'Toxicity' ... 'Bounce' ... 'Sugar'... a mix of punk rock, extreme metal, Mediterranean music, and Frank Zappa's quirky vibes.
SOAD is Serj (vocals), Daron (guitar & vocals), Shavo (bass) & John (Dolmayan, drums)... They r 3rd generation Armenian-Americans from Cali. They were discovered by producer Rick Rubin in the 90's... their debut album was released in 1998, and sold steadily... Their second album 'Toxicity' in 2001 hit #1 on the charts, thanks to this single... 'Steal this album!' was the 3rd release in 2003... A 2-part album, 'Mesmerize' was released in 2005, followed by 'Hypnotize'.
System of a Down have not released any new albums since then, but have toured occasionally... Serj Tankian (vocals) has been recording solo albums... Daron (guitar) has his project Scars on Broadway.
Watched an interview from couple years ago where the band said they are not going to explain the song titles and album names because they want the fans to interpret it for themselves
Produced by Rick rubin. Who has produced Jay z, Kanye, beastie boys, red hot chili peppers, Eminem, Tom petty. He's so good
fun fact, theyve actually collabed with wu tang clan on a remix for wu tang's song shame, much like how anthrax and public enemy collabed for bring the noize which is also good
You should also check out "Protect The Land", their latest song.
I was in upper middle school when this song came out lol
Absolutely crazy seeing kids react to this
Nothing quite like the first time... 😎💯🤣
*Falling In Reverse - "Popular Monster" \m/*
Echoing the Black Hole Sun recommendation by Soundgarden with the great Chris Cornell (RIP), I'd love to see a reaction to his other band Audioslave. Try Like a Stone or I am the Highway.
We'd like to hear more of the young lady's perspective; ie, Speak Up & more often. Woman to woman, use it or loose it - your voice, your power, opportunities, etc. Step up young Mama 👊
Another great choice!!
You got to react to prison song, deer dance, and byob pleaseee!!! They are a very political band, my fave band.
Check out some rage against the machine too
Happy Easter t great song
I recently heard a song called hybrid theory tanhayee. It sounds like a cocktail of LP + Limp bizkit + bring me the horizon + korn. I think you should check it out.
The real name is Suicide. Cant play that on mainstream radio though. Hence the chop suey change.
This is the jam. "Wake up!"
I'm not sure I've ever seen reactors appear so unaffected by SOAD lol
Because it talks about suicide, and I have no inside info, I always assumed "Chop Suey" was a symbolism for the Chinese dish which was created by Chinese Immigrants. Basically, it was just thrown together using leftovers and Americans assumed it was authentic Chinese food. So to me the metaphor was that we as humans are just flesh thrown in together into a pot to make sense of life, or that when we die (esp. by suicide) we are just considered leftovers. IDK maybe a stretch.
FYI that's Rick Rubin on the piano at the ending of the song 💯🔥🤘
System is an amazing band!
BYOB is 🔥 probably my favorite by SOAD ARIELS is great! They are Armenian and their songs reflect a lot of political views that are tied to their home country being war torn. Another fun fact, Serj, the lead singer is a classically trained singer. Excellent band for sure!!! Always a vibe 🖤
No joke, I was literally eating American chop suey as I watched this reaction vid... 😲😆💯
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
This song is a rollercoaster, awesome, try toxicity, another classic. Thanks for the video reaction.
Great reaction, love and respect from Los Angeles 🇦🇲 ✊🏻
System of a Down is one of my absolute favorites! I will say Pogo Stick and Prison Song are amazing and never done really by react channels. They are sooooo good! Hope you check them out!
Checkout Bodycount-They goes the Neighbourhood. Its Ice-T on Vocals
This song came out in Aug of 2001 and called suicide then 9/11 happened the next month and they changed it to chop suey
Sugar!!!
Yo. Grettings from Australia. Love your content. Chop Suey, being an american Chinese stew made with meat or fish, plus bamboo sprouts, onions, rice and water chestnuts. They used it for the name of the song because it describes their musical style, with lots of stuff thrown together. The original name of the song was "Suicide," but their record lable made them change it to make it radio friendly. It makes sense a little bit though ... "Suey-cide". Get it?
You should react to some Limp Bizkit if you haven’t before, tracks like:
My Way
Rollin
Faith (George Micheal cover)
Listen to "system of a down aerials"
Please check out Silverchair, Israel’s Son, Australian band signed at 13! Awesome.
I love this song.
After 9/11 radio stations shyed away from playing this because “angels deserve to die” when the 9/11 victims were on everyone’s mind.
It's named Chop Suey because the original name was Suicide, and producers said it was way to on the nose and offensive for the early 2000s to name a song that.
So I believe the story goes, they were eating the Chinese meal "chop suey" and one of the producers said that was it, that's what the song will be named.
That's why in the video there is a small clip of Serj just eating a mouthful of Chinese food with disdain on his face lol
Definitely react to more!! It's my favorite band! I reccomend Toxicity, B.Y.O.B. (bring your own bombs) and Aerials- and if you liked that hard part, you'll probably like these songs too:
*-Prison song*
-ATWA
-Question
-Needles
-P.L.U.C.K
-Deer Dance
I should probably stop now😂
I'm definitely gonna watch those reactions, not many people react to all (or at least most) of them! Hope you'll enjoy!
Whats up guys! I'm a Hip hop + dubstep + metal nerd from India. I felt really good watching you react to a metal band for the first time. But in this track the hiphop element is pretty low but the metal stuff are quite high. I recently heard a song called Hybrid theory tanhayee. This sounds like a dope. I think you should check this stuff. Love from India ♥
I have Bloodywood’s upcoming album on preorder. Cheers!
Toxicity, Aerials, Sugar, Spiders 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
It's good the girl didn't start yawning, that might have been a little too much.
BYOB. Gets your attention right from the opening scream.
The song was originally called Suicide but it was too controversial so they “chopped” the word suicide in half, hence, Chop Suey
Gotta listen to their cover of shame
Thanks!
You need to react to Du Hast live in paris by Rammstein
Can't say for sure I know the meaning behind the name of the song, but I think 'Suey' could be a little slang word for suicide, since they sing that word so many times throughout the song. No idea about 'chop' though. Maybe it's like chopping food, so by Chop Suey it means people are dropping like flies because they are killing themselves. I can't explain the title, but I also know that art is not supposed to be understood or explained. You just need to feel and appreciate it for what it is!
The song was originally called Suicide. The label made them change the name so they "chop"ped it down to Sui and eventually called it "chop suey".
Yall should react to " Boulavard of broken hearts" and "Anastasia" by Slash.
good choice of music. well done
Big Wreck The Oaf, please check that out next.
expand your horizons, keep trying their stuff, people that are their fans will flock to see how u see the stuff they love.
System is another one of the deepest best bands you’ve had on. But they’re so different that there’s no in between with them. People either absolutely love them, Or really don’t like them;)- personally one of my favorites;}>🤘🏼
Fun fact : they where the first all Armenian band to go mainstream
Aerials, lonely day, prison song, questions
Holy Mountains, radio/video, I-E-A-I-A-I-O
They wanted to call the song "Suicide" but the label didn't like that. So they came up with "Chop Suey" because it's suicide chopped in half.
Please react to the band "Silverchair" and their music video "Emotion Sickneness". They're were a huge grunge band in the 90s from Australia, and the song Daniel Johns is a musical genius.
This song is a masterpiece, but it is not the only one masterpiece by System of a Down. React to "Toxicity". For many rock fans (myself included) it could be the best rock song ever, and certainly has the best drum intro ever.
