The Hunchback of Notre Dame is a beautiful and much darker Disney film of that era. It's funny, the movie makes it ambigous whether Quasimodo's gargoyle friends can actually come to live or not, or if they're simply a coping mechanism that Quasi's mind developed to deal with his loneliness, but here they reveal themselves to Sora just fine lol I'm guessing chat didn't mention the Drop-me-not item. Playing the game like you are would've been a nightmare for me, so I used drop-me-nots to make sure Riku and Sora were always at the same level of progression. Yeah, at this point in the series it's a bit hard to follow all the plot threads. The game ends up making things much clearer as you progress, but the sense of confusion is still so big. What got me through this game was how fun exploring the worlds was with flowmotion and the Dream Eater system of raising monsters and having them provide Sora and Riku with new skills. Oh, and some of the story moments in the endgame were reaaally good, too.
i love notredame so much! i want to adopt quasimodo uwu ♡ i think chat mentioned about drop-me-not but i didn't really get it and i got distracted by the game lmao but i finally understood what they meant in the 2nd upcoming video! and also, what got me through this game was SORIKU ❤️
I just finished watching all your KH videos. What a ride! It's been refreshing to see someone go through the genuine KH experience of being confused and piecing it back little by little. I really enjoyed your playthrough and commentary because it underlines how well this series work. You don't have to understand it to feel deeply for the characters and to go through this emotional trip. I hope you'll stick with it to the end and see how well everything fits together. I certainly wish for it to stick with you for a long time. Thank you for sharing this and for allowing us to connect with you through this wonderful story. Thank you as well for your hard work in editing this series in such a great way! I'll be there for the next one! 😊

I LOVE THAT PEOPLE ALSO THINK THIS IS THE GAYEST KH GAME. i feel so validated since some people in my chat kind of gave me a cynical comment when i said that this was so gay 🥹

one thing i love kingdom hearts dream drop distance for is that the worlds all feel like they have a well built story into it! kinda feels like the kingdom hearts game that shows the characters having the most kind of adventure with the other world characters
I LOVED this game the first time I played it. But I will admit, I understood NOTHING the first time I played it. I didnt understand what the dream eaters were and the WHOLE plot flew over me. And eventually there were things that happened that are later mentioned in future titles and I was like "when did that happen?" and then I realized it was from DDD. xD But I loved the vibe. How sweet it was. And (I'm assuming you already finished the game) with the Symphony of Sorcery world - I was completely won over. But mind you, I am absolute shit at rhythm games so it was a nightmare for me but I loved the original fantasia movie since I was a baby. But I think this is a game that kinda requires multiple plays to catch everything cause I think everything is explained quickly and casually like you are expected to understand with a single brief scene. What got me to understand what was happening was actually watching that "Riku is Gay" 6 hour video essay. But if you ever check it out, I suggest you check it out once you finish the series. ^^' It honestly, helped me see the whole thing with clearer vision. And make sense of things that seemed kinda dumb before. Anyway, Enjoy your vacation!! And thanks for the video.
heya there! symphony of sorcery world was sooo wonderful and dreamy! i loved that world so much! oh i didn't know such video existed! i need to check it out! thank you for the info and apologize for the late reply i just got back from vacaytioooon ❤️
Your reactions are so genuine and fun i can’t stop smilling 😂 and idk if someone already told you that, but if you ship soriku, here on youtube there’s a six hours video essay called riku is gay and why that matters, which explains game by game a lot of plot points and soriku’s relationships through a queer lens. But if you ever want to watch I recommend you to finish all ganes first to avoid spoilers.
ehy ehy ehyyy it's time for ddd, aka the gay (tm) kh game! there is a lot to talk about so ill go through this first video while also taking into account the events of the second halkf where the plot twists are revealed and retroactively explain the mysteries the first half was setting up. starting off, lets' explain the reason why the mechanic of sora and riku switching in the gameplay was made. first off, this was a 3ds title, so it was decided to be portable and played in small chunks. so you switch between the two characters in the same way other portable games are designed to be in short bursts of play sessions. there is more to it however, since this is their game, mainly riku's but i digress, and we have had other instance of multiple stories at the same time so this was another iteration of it (also you can remove the timer if you use an item if it bothers you so it's not a problem for me really). the constant switching between sora and riku however has also a possible symbolism to it, which is likely meant to represent the waltz that is now present in this game's dearly beloved, which in the next episode we'll find out to be the song their hearts sing when they are in tune. The game's title also has gay in it. Dream and drop are obvious, dreaming and dropping off to sleep, but the distance as the directors said it's the distance between sora and Riku in the game, that despite being in completely different planes of existences, the bond between the hearts is so strong that it closes that distance and allows them to affect each other regardless. about another thing you did complain about, rightfully so, the game especially since it changes perspectives often, requires more than usual to know the movies more closely if you want to follow the plot and why certain things happen, since there are a lot of references to small details to them which only appear to be weird otherwise. the main element of this is with twewy. unlike final fantasy, twewy characters arent just cameos characters who just happened to look sort of like their original versions but their stories are completely different, twewy is actually much more crossed over than final fantasy, it's really really in depth, to the point that ddd spoils a lot of important elements of twewy, which is funny. every time you dont understand something or smth even feels off is because it's a reference to twewy, like the concept of the world split in two, or rhyme's dreams having a weird importance otherwise. so, just nod and assume it's a cool reference, i cant explain everything since that would spoil twewy too lol. starting with the intro, sora and riku are sent back to the destiny islands, i may be talk about it next time, where they encounter a phantom ursula. this has always been completely out of left field and unexplained, until either ultimania or the kh3 character file, i am forgetting where it was exactly, sora remembers ariel, and thinks about how ursula was one of the obstacles between her and eric's love and that there will be more...before remembering and wondering, very pointedly, why ursula appeared here completely unexplained against him and riku, so she was there to make a symbolic parallel for sora and riku to ariel and eric. so let's break this bad boy open. the major mystery that ddd sets up is that first, riku after the prologue has instinctively noticed both him and sora were in danger so again without him even knowing, became a dream eater to protect sora inside his dreams, while sora proceeded in the sleeping worlds guided by the organization. the original intention was for them to always be together in their test, even if in a way they are, riku is inside sora's heart through the whole game. so, sora is inside the dreams of the worlds themselves, which are dreaming their story's events right before they fell to darkness in kh1, while riku is experiencing sora's internal recreation of the worlds he is visiting, sora's dream world. there are a lot of hints about this of course. riku has a dream eater symbol on him, which is btw based on the bleeding heart flower which has a ton of romantic, love and devotion symbolism to it, while sora has an x from the organization on his front. riku merges with dream eaters because he is tecnically one, while sora plays with them. the organization knows and taunts sora all the way through about him not knowing where the hell he even is, while they mention how they have no idea how the fuck riku managed to do what he did. there are of course some mistranslations, mainly at the end of the game, but for this part i want to point out how Beat mentioning "protecting the one person who matters" in japanese causes riku to repeat it as if he is realizing or remembering smth, while english acts as if already knows, more on that later in the game, and when sora in the second visit to traverse town, he says that riku's always with me and slaps his chest, this is an ironic joke because rikus is literally in there at that moment lmao. in japanese he says their hearts are always connected and another version of this ironic joke too. there's probably a lot more im not remembering rn too lol going to the disney worlds, sora experiences more or less the canon events of the world who is sleeping, i want to point out the bad guys when sora hallucinates vanitas that they are accusing him of his heart being a prison, specifically he is tecnically keeping ventus, xion, roxas and vanitas inside him locked away. the juicy stuff happens with riku, since sora's heart has influence over how things happen to him in his worlds. in notredame the world ends with, instead of esmeralda and phoebus going away and quasimodo being alone but hopeful, which sora was worried about because he noticed the similarities between quasi and riku, which riku also noticed, they instead remain together and decide to comfort riku on the matter, with esmeralda doing a very sweet speech which you dont need to look that hard into to see how it is likely meant to be a "take your time to come out of the closet" speech. very fitting for esmeralda to say it too. since both this, novels and kh3 mentions that there is something that riku is keeping hidden inside him that cant tell sora that is very much causing him a lot of distress. To offset the gay a bit, when riku says to quasi that a friend will recognize you and love you no matter what you look like, the novel reveal he is thinking of Kairi in kh2 when he looked like ansem which is very sweet! the grid is particular because this isnt actually a dream world, for that world they are supposedly in the real world briefly. i believe it's structured so that sora and riku both help the protagonists at different points so they dont meet each other. in monstro, this is where the "sora actually influences riku's worlds" is the most obvious. sora explores the actual world, while riku is actually exploring sora's memories of his time in monstro in kh1. riku mentions that it's familiar, and turns out that pinocchio here was also kidnapped, like it happened in kh1, by "riku". this riku here doesnt speak, and just calmly leaves. spoilers for the next episode, but this riku here is a nightmare, from sora remembering the painful events of kh1 of riku abandoning and later betraying him. later at the end of the game, this riku will return fully turned into a nightmare boss, where you need to defeat him as current dream eater riku, which is super cool both in concept and for the narrative, riku protecting sora from the nightmare that the riku of the past caused and such. afterwards, the dream versions of pinocchio and jiminy, manipulated by sora, even try to comfort riku by usggesting him to share and talk with a friend, aka sora wants riku to talk and communicate with him about his fears. let's stop for now for this first part, i'll add stuff if i remember anything. do lemme know your thoughts or other things you didnt understand from the game yet afteer finishing it!!!!
@@skyeifer it will get fully gay in the next part, when I say it's gay now it's because it's implicit i guess, the vibes are overwhelmingly romantic? It's a game about Sora and Riku specifically and designed around their bonds, where their constant push and pull and dynamic they have is turned into gameplay and music by them having a waltz, reflected into the main theme of the series which is revealed to be the song that plays when their hearts are in sync and sing together. Riku becoming essentially a dream guardian angel defying all logic and reasons just so he would protect Sora from a threat he wasn't even consciously aware it was happening, being inside Sora's heart and subconsciously being influenced by Sora's heart into slowly going from the still insicure boy he was at the end of kh2 to the completely fully devoted boy with clarity and peace of mind he is at the end of the game. The game being titled about their literal bonds that can transcend whatever distance was placed on them by the narrative, which will also turn again into a gameplay mechanic in the last world, and I can probably continue. Like, every time Riku softly says Sora's name and you visibly reacted from the emotions from that, all of this I listed is the narrative reasons why that is the case he's acting like that. Like, even my lore info I mentioned has serious undertones of this, like the whole thing about what happens in monstro. Riku directly facing his own demons and how they actually traumatized Sora that he's having nightmares about it, which will be used later to try and get Sora stuck into a permanent cursed sleep, and it's Riku now that redeems himself by protecting Sora and freeing him of this particular nightmare of his.
