That fifth variation is the kind of musical innovation we've come to expect from Beethoven, imo. The other ones are fairly tame. Edit: The ninth one too. That one almost sounds like a Diabelli variation in terms of parodying the theme!
Yup, I am always a bit perplexed when people claim there was nothing particularly precocious about Beethoven either as composer or pianist. Works like this seem to indicate otherwise: like his early set of piano quartets, they seem to have "Beethoven" written all over them (at least to my admittedly untrained and amateurish ear). This set of variations surely gives one an idea of just what a pianist he was even at a young age. That he did not turn out as publicly acclaimed a child prodigy as Mozart likely has far more to do with blind luck, as well as his father's (probable) deficiencies as manager and promoter - as far as I can gather, Johann van Beethoven was a loutish fool, especially compared to the likes of Leopold Mozart.
I cannot believe that, and I’m not mad at this, that although Beethoven composed this first symphony, he was still abused by his alcoholic father, Johann.
Nice to be able to both read and hear Beethoven's earliest known piece. But why is the recording different from the written music in some places (nothing blatant, but faster left hand, more or fewer notes in a chord, etc.)? Does anyone know whether there are two versions?
There aren't any tempo directions in the first edition, these are later additions - it's also why he's playing different notes to the score you see here, since he's using the earlier edition - the version here has been changed to suit the fashion when it was published, no bad thing necessarily but it means there are other ways to interpret it. The earlier score just has "Major" at the start of Var. 9.

a 12 year old to even compose these runs is INCREDIBLE
It was most likely composed before December 1782, so he was 11.
5:55 reminds of Moonlight Sonata, Mvt. 3 a bit
same arpeggio
Completely different 🤨

No comment on the prodigy of the Master...only I would like to point out that this piece definitely bears some key flavours of his later works

Splendido, Beethoven è sempre Beethoven

Well that was a non-sequitor.
Can't you check what a symphony means? This is not it.
He wrote in 12y ,Excellent
3:47 He already had a wit of sounds and rhythm when he is 12! Noice.

Best song ever ❤️
The first piece Beethoven has wrote, He composed this at 11 years old

He's playing the first edition which is different to the score here - you can see it on imslp:

Just listen for once
Whats with the first second? Something is played but is cut off.
It seems that the Variation 9 was played as Prestissimo, not Allegro.
Pletnev always does that...

¿Primera composición de Beethoven?
Yes, ser
La prima opera pubblicata nel 1782 a Mannhaim
Con 12 años..
Es probable que la haya compuesto antes de diciembre de 1782, por lo que podemos decir que tenía 11 años.
Variation 3 Czerny Op.740 Etude 8
shut up not every piece in the world is czerny's lol
not Czerny 💀💀💀
Why woud you think that its czerny even tho it clearly says beethoven😒
Music by the 9 year young Beethoven.
He was 11 or 12 at the earliest when this was composed.
@@mantictac no
@@Leon-un5kz yes
It is clearly documented that he was 11 when the 1st version was composed.
He later revised it.
