Joachim Raff - Violin Sonata No. 2 (Audio + Score)
Просмотров 7412 года назад
The Violin Sonata No. 2 in A major, Op. 78 was composed over the winter of 1857-58, by which time Raff had moved to Wiesbaden to join his fiancée, Doris Genast. Here, away from Liszt’s circle, he was slowly gaining recognition as a composer of merit, while earning a modestly independent living as a music teacher. Dedicated to the great Austrian violinist Joseph Hellmesberger, the Sonata was pub...
Johannes Brahms - Variations on an Original Theme, Op. 21 No. 1 (Audio + Score)
Просмотров 35 тыс.2 года назад
This is Brahms' first set of variations originally for the piano with a completely original theme composed for the work. The theme itself is so beautiful that the subsequent variations can be something of an anticlimax. Written at a time when Brahms and the violinist Joseph Joachim were exchanging counterpoint exercises through the mail, this set exhibits an older approach to variation techniqu...
Joachim Raff - Violin Sonata No. 1, Op. 73 (Audio + Score)
Просмотров 8382 года назад
It was not until autumn 1853 that Raff began to compose his first violin sonata, by which time he had already written ten other works for the instrument. His deteriorating relationship with Liszt had curtailed his activities as Liszt’s assistant sufficiently to allow him more time to devote to his own compositions. The Violin Sonata No.1 in E minor, Op. 73 was completed early the following year...
Franz Schubert - Violin Sonata No. 1 in D major, D. 384 (Audio + Score)
Просмотров 17 тыс.2 года назад
Schubert undoubtedly called all three of these works Sonatas, though they are now usually listed and programmed as Sonatinas, probably due to a whim of his Viennese publisher, Diabelli. A further source of minor confusion is that, though composed in 1816 when the composer was 19, they were not printed until after his death in 1828. Even at that age Schubert was by no means an apprentice compose...
FEX - Subways of Your Mind (formerly "The Most Mysterious Song on the Internet") (Audio + Score)
Просмотров 4,3 тыс.2 года назад
"The Most Mysterious Song on the Internet" (also known as "Like the Wind", "Blind the Wind", "Check It In, Check It Out" or "Take It In, Take It Out" after lines in fan-interpreted lyrics) is the nickname given to a song recording, most likely composed in the 1980s, whose origin, author, name, and original record date are unknown. The song was recorded from a Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR) broadc...
Charles Ives - Vote for Names (Audio + Score)
Просмотров 5122 года назад
One of Ives’s most visceral songs, Vote for Names! Names! Names! (1912) vents dismay over electioneering: as an editorial aside explains, “The [three] pianos represent three political candidates, each uttering his own ‘hot air slogan’; the singer represents the disillusioned voter”. (Naxos) sorry if the score looks bad btw i engraved it myself
Marcel Dupré - Vision, Op. 44 (Audio + Score)
Просмотров 1 тыс.2 года назад
The symphonic poem Vision, Op. 44, first published in 1948, has the explanatory superscription ‘Et la lumière luit dans les ténèbres’ (And the light shines in the darkness). It is with the darkness and lower depths that the work starts, growing louder, until a passage marked Grave, with a trompette theme over shifting sustained chords. The flute stop is used as one of a pair of voices, moving o...

i dont feel nothing hearing this. If I did not know the composer behind of this - composer of the D Major Violin COncert by the way! - i would not even listen until end. Perhaps the worst example of Brahms I can quote. Already by the look it looks like written by a violinist, so you can’t keep the listener if you dont have a great musical emotion to generate the next bars. It sounds like a well done exercise. Looking into op.4 this confirms my suspicion
Are you trying to provoke Marc-Andre Hamelin to jealousy

Any elf in 2024?
variation 9 and 10 give me mendelssohn vibes or maybe schumann
Simply love it.
It certainly does sound like Brahms... but it still has its own artistic integrity. Quite an enjoyable piece.
This sounds so similar to Brahms that it could have been one of his works. Which I think is a good thing, I've heard every work Brahms ever finished and did not destroy, and want more! Jenner's Ballades for piano also deserve a listen btw, same story there. Peak of late Romanticism.
I first encountered this pumping it through on a piano roll.

2/6 seems kinda pointless in this case, unless Louis meant it to be 50% faster than expected?
Sounds alkan, schumann and beethoven
Extremely boring
Not bad pieces especially no 4 is nice but poor quality for a ballade
completely different approach and not at all comparable
@@fritzpfribn9101 then i dont like this approach.
@@fredericfrancoischopin6971 you can not like it. but you cant say its poor quality if you dont understand it
@@13kmawayfromyou39 I compare with Chopin and Liszt in ballade form Brahms ballades except 1 and 4 is weird. I mean why brahms wrote scherzo form on third one in term of ballade i dont know. Maybe u are right i shoulnt say bad quality still that 4 ballades are not fits exact ballade form muchly. Also ballade 4 is more like his last intermezzo than a ballade
No matter how often I listen to Brahms' music, I just don't like it. I've tried. Each to their own 🤷
Same with me, I recognized his genius but his music does not click
That's how I feel about Mendelssohn (though I don't think of him as anything near a genius). It's good that people have different tastes
Maybe you're looking for the wrong thing in Brahms. I'd say Brahms' music is not so much about melody than it is about painting a landscape
Second sonata is pretty good, and the late works are a curate’s egg. Seek out the gems, like 118 6!
aside from gd, this is actually an amazing cover.
2:32 literally goes hard
Boring piece.
Loud the entire time.
Brahms wrote many quietly, sweetly melodic pieces… these are not them
