We have 2 bz4x in our businessfleet. Cost in the Netherlands, 48k. Euro. It is actually a very nice car to drive, range is good as well as charging. This car is far better than the press wants you to believe

I know it is a bit boring but it suits me just fine..
The BZX4 is comparable to an Atto 3 not a Model Y. Even compared to the Atto it has less luggage space, less head room (but costs $15k more). Common sense would tell anyone to buy the Atto in preference.
Driving for less than a month now and I’m not really happy with the range keeps dropping every week even on full charged . For 3 weeks from 400 something down to 345. We will ring Toyota today for options. We should have wait for the 2027 1000km range. And the dash board so annoying you can’t see the whole screen
As an ex Australian Toyota interior fabric specialist who developed the last seat covering and headliner for the last Camry I also don’t like the darker side headliners used as it just doesn’t provide the look of space which I’m sure you agree based upon your previous videos. I’m also not a fan of the “white/cream” Pleather. Just so difficult to keep clean especially with little one or people wearing new denim on hot days.
Thanks for the context mate - I reckon dark headlining is terrible in most situations because it makes it feel so cave-like, but at least the creamy looking seats add some brightness. I’d love to do a stress test on that light material!
@@therightcar It’s interesting as the synthetic leather out performs natural leather in all of the stress related categories that car seats go through. The standards also keep changing, which makes it more challenging and potentially limits some options as real leather is on the decline and it’s not based upon marketing hype and going “green”. The actual facts are that real leather in totality just doesn’t pass manufacturers specs anymore. One example in particular is the sew ability and burst strength tests. The man made version is just better from a pure testing perspective to set standards. We used to joke about how all car seats will eventually be made out of a blend of carbon fibre and Kevlar and this was back in the late naughties. One tick I will give to Toyota, is from a buyers perspective. As although seats in top BMW’s and Mercedes cost significantly more, they actually fail to pass (even today) the testing requirements to meet the standards set by Toyota. Fact.
70% of available battery after how many years? So peak power will be considerably less as will distance. One of the reasons why I’m sticking with ICE or arguably the best option being Hybrid.
And you are not supposed to drop below 20% or charge above 80% and not use fast charging too often as it destroys the battery. Apart from that all good.
@@therightcarThat's what they claim. But when you find out that for some reason you could never have predicted your EV battery is only good for 50% after 8 years and the warranty has expired none of them are at all willing to help you out financially so you can get a new battery. That becomes your problem, not theirs.
I own a Forester. Make one with a battery that will go 450 to 500km's on a charge with a decent recharge speed. Add a fullsize spare wheel at 18 inches. A usable Frunk and the ability to go power back to the grid and its a winner.
Oh perhaps they could make one like that, except it would cost at least 50% more than the petrol version. Still want one? And I am not sure putting power back into the grid from the battery is a very good idea, for battery longevity.
The cost of EV's in Australia will never let them be a popular choice... something small 1/2 this price for a second car city run around would be great or stick with a practical hybrid system.
Maybe there’ll be some incentives when the new vehicle emissions scheme comes into play that could help improve the buy-in point for consumers. But we will have to wait and see!
@@therightcar hey mate bit like the tail wagging the dog or cart before the horse...if we want to remove as many petrol vehicles off the road as possible just have to do it in a smart logical fashion.

Toyota could have done much better and actually try to build a good EV rather than just build one for the sake of offering an EV in the fleet (cause that’s what it feels like). As for price, not surprised that it’s expensive for what you’re getting. I love Toyota and only own Toyotas but this just isn’t good enough. The damn honest truth. Not a Model Y killer by any means, not much of a competition.
I was surprised at how cramped I felt in the Solterra/BZ4X. At 170-ish cm, I felt shoehorned behind the wheel, with my head too close to the (sun)roof lining, and in order to see the instrument binnacle, I had to have the tiny steering wheel almost in my lap. I'm used to an Outback, and thought the rear seat space was underwhelming, but the Solterra/BZ4X is a smaller car. The consumption on test was also disconcerting given its small battery. Not mentioned in the review is the atrocious range: if I wanted to travel dirt roads whilst in holiday, I'd be making sure I could get back to a charger, and this would limit where I could go dramatically; so too, getting to a location with a good supply of charging options would be critical, and the _need_ for frequent and long stops along the way would be tedious. Everyone seems to be comparing this solely against a Tesla Y, but surely the (excellent, and excellently-priced) Polestar 2 would be considered for many?
Thanks for that feedback - yeah, the driving ergonomics seem like they were designed primarily for the yoke wheel, not the full size. I didn’t see atrocious range.
