Even if Alpha Trion in this universe didn't have prophetic visions, I think he still gave D a cog because he truly believes in what he said about giving them the power to choose what they wish to do with it. He truly believes in true freedom and it's somewhat optimistic in hope
I think that Alpha Trion actually agreed with D-16 in a way. Even if he couldn’t see the future, he had to give D-16 and Orion cogs to ensure that things would work out no matter what. If Orion died, the miners didn’t trust them, or if the message was destroyed then in any of those scenarios he knew that Megatron would still get rid of Sentinel in one way or another. Second point, he believed everyone on Cybertron deserved the ability to make choices and transform. Everyone deserves a chance to chose their path and change themselves, and if Alpha Trion didn’t give that chance to all four of them when he had the ability to then he’d be almost as bad as Sentinel. Of course, these two are based off of the fact that it’s unlikely he had future vision in the movie, as the entire plot wouldn’t happen if he had that power!
You made some pretty good points here and I agree that an Optimus is just as strong and good as his Megatron both physically and Mentally. But on first viewing without knowing AlphaTrion can see the future I felt the glance he gave D was more of sympathy and guilt, like knowing what Sentinel did to them and how the miners came to be, any resident of Cybertron would be outraged and he was too I feel like even more cause he was a Prime and he failed his own people, even if he didn't show it. So it felt to me that him giving D a cog wasn't for a master plan to birth to a new prime with Optimus but to give them a chance to right a great wrong and to make up for his failure.
I feel like Alpha Trion gave D-16 the Onyx Prime cog, hoping that Onyx’s nature as a warrior mystic would allow D to use his anger constructively. Also, he wanted Sentinel dead just as badly as D-16 did.
When D-16 lashed out after seeing Sentinel Prime's true colors, I often thought that Alpha Trion saw a bit of Megatronus Prime in the miner. Even though we never got a chance to see what he was really like in comparison to his fellow Primes.
I don't think the cog made him more crazy, but it did give him the power to follow through with killing Sentinel. The cogs seem to change their physical forms but not necessarily their minds.
And most importantly, Optimus Prime needs to exist to defeat Unicron who would one day arise to destroy Cybertron. So Megatron is a necessary evil to bring forth the chosen one who would defeat the true evil, Unicron, and thus why Alpha Trion allowed things to happen the way they did.
every time i watch sentinel death in transformers one i feel as happy to see he die more then megatron bec fuck sentinel for killing ironhide in dark of the moon
Perfect inclusion of "everything happens for a reason" theology, which is too often missing in transformers comics. Transformers is most brilliant when intended for children (PG) and focuses on faith hope and love. I am really really looking forward to some future film when Megatron is fully morally redeemed and repentant of his mistakes

Well, he was right.

Most importantly, who would D be WITHOUT Orion?

@@mitchellbambam5926 he definitely wanted sentinel to face judgement too, if nothing else.

Makes sense why he gave D-16 the cog of a prime that has beast mode. Prolly made D-16 more cuckoo and gave rise to optimus

Leave it to a transformers movie releasing to take us back to 2010 on RUclips 😂

Rodimus Prime can take down Unicron just fine by himself.

I'd rather have him go into self exile than join those who he tried to force into extinction
