  • The shock defection of a Tory MP to Labour in anger over the NHS crisis has heaped pressure on Rishi Sunak ahead of what is already expected to be a tough week for the Prime Minister.
Dr Dan Poulter, a former health minister and working medic, on Saturday quit the Tory Party saying it is “failing” the health service and that he could no longer “look my NHS colleagues in the eye” as a Conservative.

The NHS is totally usless, having gone through the system this last number of years due to hyperthyroidism and hyperparathyroidism, I was horrified to learn how little these gps and specialists know about these conditions.
I tought my self by reading up on both conditions, and joining 2 great sits with member in the same predicament, I found myself teaching these professionals about the conditions, which were the correct blood tests to be performed ect, all I got back from the NHS specialists and gps were... The quotes of the NHS guidelines for blood work, no care about the awful symptoms that go with both these conditions 😡 my gp could clearly see my decline in health, but chose to ignore it saying "your menupausal"... I became a futher burden to the NHS when I collapsed and were taken to hospital in thyroid storm 😮, "well done doctor" ... Now I'm a bigger burden taking a hospital bed up, just because of your total ignorance, and bad care😡 what are these gps and specialists being taught in medical school🤔

This is very sadly true I suffered hyperthyroidism graves with eye disease. At 39. I'm 52 now. My GP admitted they know very little about the disorder. I had full thyroid removal and because my parathyroids were damaged they were removed also. No one told me my body could no longer upload calcium from food and I'd need to use alfacalcidol for life. My GP stopped the alfa in 2020 10 months later I was admitted to hospital because I could no longer use walk and my muscles could no longer work to help me breath. Today the damage to my skeleton is irreversible, my hips knees and lower back are locked and I have great pain walking with constant numbing of the feet. I have fallen nemerous times at home damaging my head and chipping the bone in my elbow. Make of that what you will.

@@sillyshazzie... Yes I also lost my thyroid, but it could have been prevented if my gp knew what he was doing, 18 months of sheer hell from hyperthyroidism (graves) no TED though thankfully, the hyperparathyroidism thing was first diagnosed in 2004 and left with watch and wait, diagnosed again in 2020.
They tried the watch and wait again, but my son paid for a private parathyroid surgeon to see me to get the diagnosis as the NHS in my area didn't want to deal with me 😡 I've had kidney stones, now got CKD, calcification in most joints due to calcium in the blood stream, high calcium (gp never informed me of).. Im 62 and feel 92...my life is ruined.. Thanks to the nhs😡 I'm sorry to read you to have suffered with these conditions 😢 to think if they were better trained it might not have happened, but I also get a lot of feed back from fellow sufferers that it's money to, the nhs just don't want to treat us😡😡

@@karenwhitehead2260 I'm so sorry you're suffering this too. The feeling 90 odds really hit home with me. It's exactly how I feel every day too. From having a very physical job in health care then hospitality to waking up crying in the night because I changed position and hurt myself with my hips cracking has changed my life completely. I truly feel for you and completely understand you.

    To accommodate 700.000 people.
    You need 5 hospitals.
    53 doctors surgeries.
    64 dental surgeries.
That’s how many people moved here last year.
That’s also the equivalent amount of capacity we lost last year, alone!
As a result of those 700.000 people moving here!
    It’s basic supply and demand!
Too much demand equals poor supply of services!

I'm lucky enough to have an NHS dentist. He works 6-7 days a week. He gets £25 per tooth extraction from the government, whereas a private dentist can charge £300 for the same procedure - so private dentists will not touch NHS patients as they don't get paid fairly. My dentist currently has a 'dental nurse' - but, she's a qualified dentist - she's not allowed to practice as a dentist yet. My dentist is Iranian and he will not turn patients away as he does not want people to suffer in pain. He says there isn't a national 'shortage' of dentists - that's what the tory government want you to think - it's the poor pay that puts NHS dentists off

    Four days before an election.....Ouch.
Despite the defection I suspect he will be retiring from parliament at the next election to focus on his work as a doctor.
That would be a true vindication of what he has done and would earn the respect of his NHS colleagues.

it's a shame he has only realised now what he and his Tory government are responsible for . But why does he need to join the labour party before he stands down if he truly wants to stand down then why does he need to join labour to do so ? And I'm 100% certain if Labour win the next election he will not stand down and has no intention of doing so he's simply moving on to pastures new for his own selfish reasons now that the Tory ship is sinking ( thank god )

NHS has inherit issues - denying patients proper diagnostics, treating "most likely disease" first, then if not working, treating "a second guess", etc. only after thd surustion became unreversable a referal is made. patients are invalidased by that approach. and there is no entry point for any innovation. MAY BE some decades ago that was saving some money. today this costs a lot more. patient trust is gone, as a doctor's main skill - denay the patient proper care.
a generation of doctors is unable to read a basic scan or blood test, do any kind of physical examination, even tommy palpation or listerning chest noises. total absence of clinical judgement as they had no chance to form it based on own experience of a full cycle diagnostic-treatment-result. the latest "find" - a new doctor each time you visit a ward. so no continuity, no individual responsibility, even less access to gaining at lessr some real experience by a doctor. Shame on management which leads to degradation of professional ethics.

This. I have said this for a long time but the average man in the street won't see it. The NHS has been put on a pedestal that it does not deserve and is above criticism. To put it in to perspective if the NHS was a country the amount of funding it gets would make it the 42nd best economy on earth. It would be 15th out of the 27 countries in the EU. It is the 5th biggest employer in the world. Not the country but the entire planet. It isn't a funding problem it is an efficiency, or rather lack of, problem.
Also doesn't help when we let more people in to the country than the entire population of Liverpool every single year.

@@emceedoctorb3022 completely and totally correct. A net migration of 600k per year, that's 6 large towns, 6 large hospitals, 20 supermarkets, 20 go surgeries, 40 dentists etc need to be built every year just to maintain current levels of service, which is already poor.
