Hey your tutorial was 👍 great. Followed your advice to the letter...after a quick purchase from Amazon of a mini hacksaw...lol. Nothing to it Thanks a million
Hi I came here because of a stuck toilet lock nut. I watched the video (very good video). Then I decided to try a little WD40 before sawing. It worked the WD40! Try a little oil before sawing it might loosen the nut. Just saying. Have a great day!
Excellent work, thanks for sharing this tip for other viewers! Man, I can’t believe I didn’t think of that! I keep WD40 in my toolbag, had it right there the whole time I was sawing away, haha. Thanks for watching!
How did you get the WD40 into the underside of the locknut? My fill valve is steel, so 'cutting' into it is not an option. I'm afraid of the other suggestions which involve cutting the nut etc, as I'm afraid of breaking the nut off and taking a bit of the porcelain toilet with it.. then I would need to replace the whole toilet! * eep *
I’m so glad you said that!! The 3” plastic nut on my toilet flush valve is stuck. I went and bought a huge pair of channel locks (cost twice as much as the new flush valve) to get a better grip, but it won’t budge! I sprayed it thoroughly with WD-40 last night and let it sit overnight. I’m about to go try it! I’m optimistic after reading this… Wish me luck!
Now do a video on what to do when the 3” plastic nut on the flush valve is stuck! I had to go buy a huge pair of channel locks, but it still isn’t budging! I may try your hacksaw “hack” (no pun intended). Also- next time you’re in Lowe’s or Home Depot- pick up one of those little 6 or 7” hacksaws! They’re around $7, and they have bailed me out of more tight situations than I can count! Buy extra blades!
Fast forward to 4 minutes and 7 seconds in the below video…you’ll see my solution and one of those mini hacksaws! ruclips.net/video/woIPLB5tvYo/видео.htmlsi=dD5p3N9KT3rCgeuR
@@DIYTutorialGuy I watched it! I should have seen that one first. I’ve learned so many things from RUclips. What drives me crazy, though, is after watching tutorials, I know exactly how to do every step of the project, but something is always STUCK, and as a 67 year-old woman, sometimes I don’t have the physical strength to unstick it. I usually find a way around it, but a 45-minute job can take me hours. It’s a great feeling when it’s done, though! 😃
@candacerushing6882 thanks for subscribing! It’s great to hear you step up and tackle hard challenges! Most men your age wouldn’t step to replacing a flush valve, let alone finding a way to get the stuck locknut unstuck. You are inspirational!
Btw, my toilet bowl had hand-tight nuts under the tank, you remove the nuts and you will able to lift the tank and move out to a more comfortable space outside the little space and use different types of tools to conveniently cut out the plastic lockout. I’m sure this removable nuts are right under all different types of flush tank
For this the locknut was preventing the fill valve from being removed. There were no If you watch the video where I remove the flush valve I use those nuts to remove the tank. Here’s the link: ruclips.net/video/woIPLB5tvYo/видео.htmlsi=MQWslmZ1b45UmxG-
Sure, if I had an angle grinder (which is what you must have meant)… However, the point of this channel is using what you have on hand to fix something. Why spend $$ on an angle grinder when the hacksaw I have worked fine?
Because it’s a one time use lock nut, and almost every destroying it is the easier option. I did try regular and channel lock pliers, but it’s too small to get a good bite.

I wanted to say a big thank you for the suggestion of WD40. It worked!

I’m stuck on one right more… trying not to punch out my walls 😅
Were you able to get the locknut off?
If you dented the wall, spackle and some touch up painting should fix it!

Thx brotha, im still fixing to track down and john wick the mf that screwed this in as hard as taxes screw me.

I am sure this is dumb question, but is there a reason you didn't try a wrench and try to unscrew the lock nut?

@@DIYTutorialGuy thank you for the quick reply and for the video. I appreciate it!
