Two major points in the interview that I whole-heartedly agree with: 1. You have to have fun. Don't race to be better than pilot XYZ, or some arbitrary milestone, you have to fly to have fun. Its the only way to never burn out. Practicing thousands of hours because you have some goal in your head, and if you fall short (or far)? That is when people burn out, get upset, drop the hobby, etc. 2. Race strategy instead of just assuming you have to go 150% at all times to win. Look at your competition and understand the concept of knowing what is "enough to win." In brackets, 0.001s ahead of 2nd place is the same as 10s ahead of 2nd place. Only work as hard as you need to, and put the rest into ensuring you can fly clean. (Honestly I think the is the only reason I got as far as I did at 2020 champs and managed to scrape up a 12th place finish. Realizing that so many pilots who are clearly faster than me, took excessive risk with their lines in the highly unpredictable winds. Making the choice to sacrifice the fastest line, for a more consistent/conservative line proved to be a fairly successful strategy!)
Hey Spicy! Completely agree with your take aways. 1. Sometimes we get overly competitive and fixated on a goal that it sucks all the fun out of it. You can't keep improving if you quit =P 2. Totally agreed on race strategy, congrats on making 12th! That's a great accomplishment! I think race strategy was extra important this year given all the variables with weather, tough track etc.
Wow, thanks Noic and DRA for the amazing interview. There is so much wisdom here about having fun, working hard, mindset and mindfullness -- not to mention dealing with adversity at the 2020 champs. It makes Noical's 4th place even all the more impressive. Thanks for taking the time and sharing this with us!

Legend has it that area 51 has a door with noical's name on it. I was going to Naruto run into area 51 just to get in the door, but my friends bailed on me =(
A lifetime of pain is not worth the short term enjoyment, take it from a 40 year old (I had similar issues from 28 years of guitar practise). Please let yourself heal before it's too late, the hobby will always be here you can come back.. but you must heal first. Respect for the commitment, but please consider my advice 🙏
Idk why but everything that i hear or see from Noical motivates me to practice way more than anything else lmao
