I really like this! Why? First of all, here was the technology explained in a way that is easy to understand. Secondly, the speed of narration in this video was comfortable. At last a RUclips video which is not packed with 1 million words per minute. Excellent!
It’s so weird that it took me watching THIS SPECIFIC VIDEO to FINALLY understand the use of filters and the relationship between choppy footage and shutter speed. You explained it very well. Literally EVERY single other source (primarily videos explaining why you need to use ND filters for the OSMO pocket) has said that ND filters slow down your shutter speed. But in reality, if you control your shutter speed already, the ND filters are just helping your exposure to compensate for the Shutter speed
Forget about the Osmo, you've explained the relationship between shutter speed and frame rate with such subtlety and effortlessness, the examples that you've used and the depth that you've covered in such a short video, I've found it very useful. Thanks for making this video! Subscribed!!
Really appreciate the info DroneTech. We have been debating getting an osmo for some real estate shoots and one of my biggest concerns was the settings on the camera and if it would sufficient enough for our under million dollar shoots. No we know! Thanks!
Brilliant video! You have answered my question regarding the lack of aperture. I didn't realise they made an ND filter for the Osmo so that explains everything :) Thanks so much!
Excellent tutorial. I loved that you showed the three shutter speeds to illustrate your point. If I shot with a faster shutter speed, would adding motion blur in post help the look?
Thank you so much for creating such an informative video. I'm new to this camera, and don't have knowledge of camera settings, etc. This video was extremely useful, thank you so so much! :)
Just purchased an OSMO+ and was curious how the camera works on it (Mavic Pro owner). Its identical to the Mavic I would say! Great and informative video, you explained the shutterspeeds and nd-filters very well. Thumbs up from Sweden!
Your explanations were very good, just wanted to ask you if you have any experience with a variable ND filter which to my understanding could be more universal for various light conditions, say teh Variable ND Filter is very popular on the DSLR Movie shooting as you face teh same tasks when shooting with DSLR settings.
One of the very few REAL HELPFUL and EXPLANATORY videos. Many thanks for sharing. Question: Can you use Auto ISO selection in Manual mode, selecting only shutter speed?
I noticed the jumping while panning and it has been bugging me for months. I hadn't found a solution until now. I can't wait to go out and try this. Thanks a bunch.
Thanks for the great info! I plan on buying some filters for my OSMO, but couldn't I also raise the ISO (while leaving the Shutter Speed at 60) on bright days?
Advice required. Im using 2 cameras to shoot a film; the OSMO X3 and A Lumix G7. My plan is to use the G7 in 4k mode, then later downgrade to 1080. How would I best match the overall "look" of OSMO footage to match the G7 - also shoot in 4K then downgrade?, or simply shoot in 1080? I will be needing some slo mo footage from the OSMO, so it will be in 1080 for those. Many thanks !
You’re probably the 10th video I’ve watched with the hope of understanding the difference between a frame and a shutter action, or FPS vs shutter speed. If they are both measured as units of a second, then how do the relate. Is one a multiple of the other? Do they overlap? Sorry for the rant. It’s just frustrating that everybody talks about the math rather than the physics.
So if you film in 60 frames/sec for faster moving clips, how do you render the footage when you upload it to RUclips? Do you have to render the entire video at 60 frames/sec to keep the same feel of the video (for example if you film some in 30 frames and some in 60 depending on the amount of movement)?
+Messages of Christ - For me personally, it depends. You can render down to 30 FPS, or if you want to maintain the smoothness of 60FPS, then upload that way. RUclips allows for 60FPS uploads.
Great video but i still dont understand it all . Can anyone tell me for filming a basic music videos from the dji osmo what is the best and most simple settings to use ?? please help!!
Hi, do you know which settings in the dji osmo are the best to shoot outside? And which is the best to keep myself in focus and blur the background? And which give the best colour? Thanks
Even with shutter speed set the way it should be you get some jump. Is the only way to fix this by panning slower? Do you get the same jump when panning slower and speeding up in post? That jump is my biggest pet peeve, I'd like to completely get rid of it.
Q. is it ok to set shutter to 360 for talking head interviews? Hi Many thanks for this. I hope you still monitor this post, as you are the first person who has clearly addressed my question. I shoot mainly talking head interviews and because I film at 50fps progressive, I was trying not to use 100 shutter speed so that image did not require more light. If my image is just someone talking would it hurt to set shutter speed to 50 (360 degrees) Thanks Tony
Great video tutorial Jake, but I have a question. Why don't you use the Polorizer filter, I thought it removes reflection or glare for the image? Thanks!
+Bobster986 In many instances I do. For the purpose of this tutorial, I was only focusing on ND filters. The PoloarPro polarizing filters are OK, but not great in my opinion. Typically you want a circular polarizer to get the exact look desired.
Thanks man! Saw a lot of choppy footage from the osmo and have been wondering whether or not they've just left it on auto. Looking more and more like I want one. Can you recommend any variable ND filters for the osmo? If any... ?
Hello my dear Can you help me? When I record the video the mobile program takes me out knowing that it records excellent but my problem with the application
id like to know if i'm going to be filming say a automotive race or any other fast moving object at night and at 60fps, would i still need a filter and should the shutter speed still be at 1/120th?
thanks! One question, Im planning to use 60p so my shutter speed would be 120, what filter should I use for my osmo? Im gonna make it slowmotion by the way
Best ever tutorial i have ever seen....as smooth as osmo.... Proper Speech speed....calm and simple. Every sentence is informative... Thankyou so much

+Carl Irjala - Thanks! Appreciate the feedback.
+Carl Irjala what he said. Super helpful
Channon Hodge Thank you!
I couldn't have said it better
Nicely put, I do get bored with videos where the posters personality/ego is too much to deal with while trying to suss out the info.
This is how all RUclips tutorials should be! Subscribed.

I loved how you offered the examples with actual footage. Sometimes your really need to see the differences visually.
Just got the DJI Osmo. I am very thankful that there's a video on this topic. THANK YOU
+MajorInkPeoples You are welcome. Glad to hear it helped. If you have any questions about the OSMO let us know and we will try to answer them.
Just want to add to the other comments here; I also just got an OSMO and found this video to be extremely useful! Another subscription here!

Thank you. Done in such a simple way for folks to understand. Excellent job!.

I liked showing us how to figure what ND filter to use based the Osmo's manual camera settings starting at 4:08 in your video.
Great tutorial into frame rates
Thanks for all the tips. Stay safe bro.

Terrific tutorial. Thank. You!!!
So rule number one is to have nd filter on all the time ? :) super nice walkthrough !

Perfect info!!!! Thanx
Very good learning. good formula to calculate the FPS vs Shutter speed. But i did not understand the degree.
Great explanation. Considering an OSMO for interior real estate video rather than a Zhiyun Crane. Thoughts?
awesome video.
subscribed and liked, now i know why some of the osmo vids are so blurry, i thought it was flaw by design, nice :) explanation

+DroneTech EXACTLY! Most people here that don't realize are making videos on how you need it on your drone. Ridiculous!
Hello DroneTech, do you have a video on OSMO+ for FACEBOOK lives? Cheers, Robertt
Thanks man! Saw a lot of choppy footage from the osmo and have been wondering whether or not they've just left it on auto. Looking more and more like I want one. Can you recommend any variable ND filters for the osmo? If any... ?
Don't worry, just found your video on the Variable ND, thanks!
+John Pelasio - :) hope it helped. I love that filter!
Thank you
Hello my dear Can you help me? When I record the video the mobile program takes me out knowing that it records excellent but my problem with the application
id like to know if i'm going to be filming say a automotive race or any other fast moving object at night and at 60fps, would i still need a filter and should the shutter speed still be at 1/120th?
