- Bass-baritone Justin Hopkins sings У врат обители святой (U vrat obiteli svyatoy / At The Gates of the Holy Cloister) by Sergei Rachmaninoff. Pianist, Miles Graber. Concert presented by Four Seasons Arts at Berkeley Piano Club. Berkeley, California. Otion Pictures, film.
Love your voice-keep singing and growing. From a Bass-Baritone brother.
Pleasant voice, quite well pronunciation as for non-native speaker and expression is also high. Thank you for this video, my friend, I hope you'll make more recordings of Rachmaninoff`s romances.
That voice is really awesome and beautiful. I really love this singer
Beautiful voice, Justin. I loved singing in Russian when I was a young baritone. Very well done indeed.
Such a very nice voice.
Beautiful Justin, beautiful
Captivating and magnificent.
I graduated a few years ago from my music school, also a bass such as yourself. Because of life circumstances and graduate school (totally unrelated program), I don't spend much time in growing my voice. Your voice is like molasses. It's rich and thick. My voice teacher at the time, would always remind me to think "I am a thespian, and I have a story to tell." More a mental and warmup exercise to move me from a mellow demeanor to one that is ready to depict the story through music. This really inspires me to get back into growing my voice.
It was incredible. Thank you!
Very impressive!! Justin, such a perfect performance!
So beautiful Justin!!!
I've just found my voice and glad I tumbled upon this to practice on.
soooo touching. wonderful!
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 СПАСИБО Thenk you ❤❤❤
Wonderful Justin!
Very nice!
Great work!
Amazing!
Great work.
aaaaaaaaaaaand subscribed!
С слезами горькими, с тоскою;
Так чувства лучшие мои
Навек обмануты тобою.
What voice.
pianist really feel this music. It`s interesting when afroamerican (is it clear?) sing about russian beggar. after all it hard to understand truly Russian music to foreigners
Miles Graber is indeed an absolutely phenomenal pianist. I was honored to work with him. It is hard for foreigners to truly understand Russian music, though it resonates with me and with many others on such a deep emotional level. Paul Robeson, a great Afro-American bass, sang a great deal of Russian music and was warmly embraced by Russian audiences. He found that there is a similarity in the soul of Russian music and Afro-American spiritual music. I agree. I hope that I was able to capture at least some of the Russian soul in the performance.
All oppressed peoples have things in common.
thanks for a wonderful performance Mr. Hopkins...as a pianist myself you got me to think about intensity and emotion ...bravo
Well you could always opt to have ONLY Russian people sing this but then the music would scarcely be sung.
@@jlhopkin Yes! You can definitely sense the similarities between the two. Thank you for a great performance sir. My student came across this video as a goal song. I personally had never heard it until now. Magnificant!
👍👍💝💝💝🌸
Lovely voice in spite of terribly dry accoustics. I'm tempted to add reverb just to get an idea of the sound, haha.
👍
what a pleasant 3 minute 35 spend
I'm currently learning to sing, and I'm struggling to find repertoire in English for my range (d2-d4). I can, however, speak Russian a little. Could you recommend me a song or two that's not extremely difficult?
Fred Tyrrell Try "Summer Wine" from H.I.M the part where a man sings.
Purcell songs are good.
You can sing , for example,
"Zariza i zarevna" (G.Sviridov) yadi.sk/d/hxyMvdtg3Utsc6
or "Fluger" (G.Sviridov) yadi.sk/d/OwaDuTvi3Utse7 .

If you can drop that D2 to A2 that covers all of baritone and tenor, you're already in the tenor range anyway
There's not a whole a lot of repertoire out there for bass voices unfortunately. But I have a friend with a similar bass range to yours, and he would transpose baritone repertoire down a 2 or 3 steps depending on the piece of music
Nice one.. is there a music sheet?
Pushkin II ?
First-rate singing!
You combine the great spirits and genius of both Paul Robeson and Marian Anderson, with great vocal splendor.
I'm confused. I'm told I'm a bass, but you're singing in the 2nd-3rd octaves. If mine goes lower to an A1-B1 in chest, what would I be considered?
@Santiago Antunes I don't get it. My comfortable range is C2 - maybe an F4. I'm new to all this though.
@Santiago Antunes no problem. I appreciate you're help
@San Cieslak Bass-baritone and high bass is the same or different voice types according to you?
@San Cieslak Thank you. They consider you bass by your speaking voice or singing? Is it possible to clearly determine who is or not bass-baritone from their undeveloped (not enough singing) voice or even just by their speaking voice?
@@krikionis8330 it only really becomes clear as a voice grows and develops. A bass-baritone, or basso-cantate as they used to be called, is a voice that sits between the basso profundo and the dramatic baritone in the fach system. Essentially it is a bass that can sing higher repertoire comfortably, something which a profouno would struggle with. It’s super confusing most of the time and really has to do with where you are comfortable singing. Do you have a deep, dark voice but struggle to project below a low F or E? Do you have the ability to take that dark voice above a high F without shouting? Then you are probably a bass-baritone. A basso-profundo can sing about the same low range as a bass-baritone (down to a low C and a little lower) but can maintain a massive, cavernous sound all the way down to that low C. I am rather young (18) and am a year into classical training and posses a voice closer to that of a dramatic baritone. I still can sing down to a low D and C sometimes, but it is not where I am comfortable nor where I sound the best.
vocalità ingolata .
stonato .
bass-baritone ?!
questa è la voce del baritono vero .
Mi dispiace che non ti piacca
Justin Hopkins
George London lost his voice due to undue stress on the vocal cords....
