I think this is now my favourite vocal recording you've ever uploaded - The presence of character you hold in the lows, and the power & commanding in the mids is extraordinary - Not even mentioning the highs and how masterfully you navigated them, going from bright, pingy, and pure to cries of woe and searching, all while maintaining a beautiful sound. This entire performance had me engaged and loving every second; amazing work, Peter - You're a prime role model for future bass-baritone(s)
Your comments mean the world to me -- so thoughtful and kind. Thank you my friend 🙏
@@PeterBarber ❤
Your German pronounciation of all the words was excellent. I could understand everything clearly.
That's excellent news -- thanks so much for listening 🙏
I agree ! Your German was excellent! Beautiful voice !
Dude that D2 came Out of nowhere holy Shit what a great recording
Gorgeous! I love your work in all arenas - opera/classical/solo/bass gang!
Thank you!
Peter, man, that was absolutely amazing. So moving in diction, musicality, and facial expression. I love seeing a singer be so determined and willing to go all the way. You did exactly that. Thank you for this performance.
You sings the German "Wanderer" by Schubert without an accent and with a lot of empathy. The "Lieder" by Schubert, Schumann, Brahms and Wolf are not easy to interpret, even for German singers. I am impressed!!
Thanks so much :)
Simply beautiful.
Thank you!

as an stumbler in your Vids, and an Metalhead with great ignorance of Tonal Science, just let me tell you, i heard this many Times, only living 40 minutes away from Bayreuth and the Wagner Academy. and often been to the Meistersinger Concerts in my Hom,etown, Nürnberg since i am 6 yrs till now.
you nailed it, as far as i can say. Tonal warmth etc like said, im an headbanger, not suited to analyze, but it was on point, like said, and the crescendos and decresendos i really love. did nearly understand every word, cudos for that too.
I appreciate opera so much, because it's precise and beautiful. Not just singing, but acting, and the amazing thing is you focus mainly on that one singer and no one else
But this isn't opera
I meant in general he is an opera singer, but I love other opera singers as well. I don't know much about it but the ones I do know, I appreciate
@@nadinehoogenboezem4798 he's a classical singer. That opera, Lieder (like this one) and more. Those are different types of classical singing
Not all classical singing is opera
WOW 😲😳❤❤. GORGEOUS!!!! 🙌🏻🌹🌹
4:34 nice D2
Hey thanks man 😏
Peter, you are stupid talented! Loved this!
Thank you!!
Your dynamic control makes it all the more hauntingly wonderful!
That's the goal! Thanks so much :)
Bravo Peter, beautiful Voice :-))!
Buttery smooth as always, nice!
Thanks so much, Aaron!
As Austrian I have to say that it is nice to hear you singing in German language. Good pronounciation, especially as it isn't that easy to sing in German when you're used to Italian Opera or English songs. Great job!
I FEEL THE OPERA FEEL IN HIS VOICE. I GUESS HE IS A BASS OPERA SINGER.
Beautifully done, Peter! Fischer-Dieskau would be proud!
Thank you so much!
I love ❤️ this Peter and the caption of English is so cool I can understand what you’re saying it makes a difference for me. But when I first heard your voice on this I was hit with your beautiful voice. Thank you so much.
Beautiful voice, Bravo!!!!
Thank you for this beautiful, earnest performance 🥹
Beautiful performance
Thank you!
excellent.
I love opera bass singers, i love opera at all.
A really great voice!
Wow. Just wow.
Thank you!
Excellent Bravo. Wonderful big round sound. It seems you are projecting effortlessly. I am not a musician but I have listened to classical music about 8 hours a day for 4 decades. You also seem naturally musical, a nice rightness. I was mostly listening, but I like the few facial expressions as well, conveying you were feeling it. Again, congratulations.
Thank you, Michael! Glad you enjoyed the performance and took note of the facial expressions -- I've found them to be much more powerful in this kind of piece than large, physical gestures
@@PeterBarber haha save the large gestures for the stadium performances which you will be doing! Peter, have you seen/studied the Maria Callas' masterclass sessions? She mentioned asking conductor Tullio Serafin what her gestures should be when singing a concert and not a opera performance. He told her to simply listen to the music with her body. I am paraphrasing from memory.
Great job!!! Congrats!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thanks so much!
Beautiful!!!
amazing mr. peter barber!!!!!
Thanks so much!
Bravissimo!
I just reacted on one of your reaction videos to Dimash and said you have such a beautiful talking voice. Love your singing voice as well. Beautiful ♥️
Lovely.
Thanks :)
Amazing!!!!
Many thanks 🙏
Please, record more of your singing!
Terrific! You had great presence in your voice throughout your range, and the tone was very rich and pleasing. I wondered whether you could make a bit more of 'Wo bist du, wo bist du, mein geleibt land!', it feels like it could be a bit more animated, before collapsing back down into the weariness of the endless journey ... just a thought. A trivial thing to say, perhaps, but I didn't see the footsore exile wearing a light blue jacket and a colourfully patterned tie. Kinda looked like you might have just missed your flight.
Love your Schubert Lieder! How about Der Erlkönig? Or Heidenröslein.
Very good! Calls to mind something of Hans Hotter, whose recording of this song is a classic
Loved it. Great voice, and from a linguistic point of view, I noticed one small diphtongization, other than that I would not have been able to tell that you are not a native. Well done
Your facial expressions, Peter! They are gorgeously scary, Ill get nightmares....
"Gorgeously scary" is precisely how I want them to come off, so that's great news 😌
@@PeterBarber
Really good man! Also the thumbnail 😂
This is a really good pronunciation
Have you ever sang >die Uhr< ? (Hermann Prey/Karl Engel)
It would be so fabulous with your impressively voice.
Wow the pronunciation was pretty good. I could understand pretty much everything.
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻❤️
Nice mate! Can I ask what key you performed in?
Sing It
you had me for a minute to think your are german - crazy... i need to google you to be sure :D
Where did you find the sheet music in this key? I have been looking for a copy to no avail. Also amazing performance!
Весьма!
Dang, you're good.
Overly dramatic lyrics. I love it. 😂
Great voice Peter! I wish you would mix your opera and rock work somehow. 😅
Your German pronunciation is very good by the way. ❤👍🏼
Bass-baritone iam
Nice!
What's the vocal range of this song?
D2 ( 4:35 ) - D4 ( 1:30 )
That thumbnail though 😅 It was great nonetheless!
Hey
👋
hey du kannst deutsch?????? ich bin erstaunt
If you're wearing rings that are not a wedding band or heraldic signet ring worn on the left pinkie, you NEVER wear them on your middle finger, and never ever ever on both. Tut tut.
Don't tell me what do.
What’s your lowest notes as a bass baritone mate ?
His lowest consistent notes are around B1-C2, but iirc he's gone as low as G#1 on a good day
@@DubiousDubs so is it the upper register that clarifies him as bass-baritone over just purely a bass? Or is bass considered even lower than C2? I’m talking in classical terms
@@michaeljoseph7160 bass baritone is a sub classification of Bass, and so it's got a lot of overlap. I'll try to explain this as best I can
Essentially, range does not determine voice type, its more like a pre requisite for voice type (having bass notes does not automatically make you a bass, but its impossible to be a bass without them. I've met baritones with Bb1s). Timbre and tessitura are what determines it after range is factored in. Bass baritones tend to have a timbre that is slightly leaning more toward baritone while still maintaining bass resonance, and they also tend to have a slightly higher tessitura than a more standard bass, and more capability of using notes above standard bass range
In the case of Peter, I've talked with him before and he says the lowest he would go in an opera is around f2 or f#2 (though he obviously can go lower, it just wouldn't be heard well in opera) and as high as G4. This is fairly common for people who market themselves as bass baritones from what I've seen.
@@DubiousDubs Thank you for taking the time to explain this - much appreciated.
@@DubiousDubs I agree on everything except that G4 is normal for bass baritones - that is high baritone territory, almost encroaching tenor range.
F4 should be within a baritone's repertoire, however, regardless of high/bass timbre.
Костюмера надо срочно уволить!
А так, понравилось, спасибо большое!
Why on earth is the pianist muzzled???
facial expressions are scary and a bit distracting.....but you look very smart in your suit.
The text/story is quite dark and ominous - it wouldn’t make much sense to be smiling throughout! The facial expressions are meant to help tell the story so I’m glad they’re a bit scary 😌
Have you ever studied german at school because your german sounds so faultless?
Thank you! Many years of studying German diction, but I’m nowhere near fluent
@@PeterBarber is it actually true that german diction is complicated? That's something I can't tell being a german native speaker. 😂
