Great insight into applying the 4 principles listed in 4DX to piano practice! I have already chosen my wildly important goals, although how I go about reaching them are not currently accepted by most piano teachers. I also keep a compelling scorecard by the use of your excellent book, "Practice Journal for Musicians", which I keep religiously for both my piano and guitar practice sessions along with goal planning and review. I do have a big problem with the Cadence of Accountability as I have always shied away from piano teachers as I know they will hammer me for spending half of my practice time working on "goal pieces" , as they are fiendishly difficult for me, but every single note is such an accomplishment, and sounds so good! It's the reward I allow myself, for devoting the second half of each session to the boring Level I, II, III and IV practice books, which are so unrewardingly tedious.
I bought that book because of you! Its incredible how accurate it is!! I really relate to when we don't work on something that calls for a deep focus for 2 hours, we can feel cranky and unfulfilled. I think people are unhappy because they are so distracted by social media and glitter object syndrome (I am guilty of both!).
Thank you for taking the time to teach piano. You have taught me in a way that just “clicks” for me and I am very grateful. Blessings.
Great points for moving forward with focus. Thanks for sharing - now just need to implement 🎶
Always nice ideas for practicing organisation!
