I was in Bangkok for the first time this past summer. I must say, the malls over there blow every single mall from America out of the water. The food courts alone are far superior to mainstream restaurants here.
Yeah in general, the shopping, food courts and retail in Asia are way crazier than the Western world. Just because they get everything from every Western country, plus all of the big Japanese, Korean and Chinese brands, plus untouchable mom and pop type restaurants, plus amazing Asian food chains, plus all of the star Western chefs trying to cash in on big Asian pockets and the tourism in Asia. Whereas in the West, unless you are in NYC, London or Paris, you are primarily getting domestic brands. Half the stuff in Tokyo, Seoul, Bangkok, Hong Kong, KL, Singapore etc you probably have never even seen before in the Western world.
I hope you were able to visit some of the malls in the evening. That's when they really come alive.

@@roymoxley2587 You're lucky to live in Southeast Asia, primarily because of the people. Pleasant, smiling people that are respectful and like to joke around and chat with basically zero violent crimes. Obviously it's a paradise with amazing food and so many other positives but when you can walk outside and don't have to worry about coming across idiots or people judging you etc, life is so much better.

Malls in Asia are grand, has everything you want, good stores, great food, and great atmosphere. Mall of America is an embarrassment. Can't wait to go back.

I've got years on you, and I'm no mall rat. But Bangkok malls take it to a whole other level. Last time I went into Siam Paragon for a Krispy Kreme donut and let with a Ferrari. Well..... in my dreams I did.
Forrest, did you know Red Lobster is owned by a Thai company, Thai Union Group? Their daily specials are pretty good…not sure if that’s available in Thailand.
And Texas Chicken in Thailand is owned by Church's Chicken in Texas.

I just moved to Bangkok and had to get to IKEA for some apartment stuff. Was not expecting the Mall Experience I was in for. The size and design of this thing is awe inspiring, I must admit. BTw - it's just been jazzed up for Chinese New Year.

Currently in Bangkok, we are facing the issue of PM 2.5 smog, so it's necessary to wear a mask when going outside to protect against the fine dust particles. Otherwise, there is a risk of lung cancer. I've noticed many tourists in Bangkok walking around outdoors without wearing masks, especially children. I am concerned about this.

Malls in Bangkok and other parts of Southeast Asia are exciting places. Here in the US malls are dead. You're not old until you turn 60. I'll be 62 in May. I am old and proud of it.

I went there yesterday was impressive my partner loved the ikea store bought some t shirts (not my thing !) I live and work in London , general question - does the average Bangkok Thai really have this kind of disposable income to spend on items in this mall such as £6 plus for a single fruit ? Maybe they do and I need educating but I found many items expensive for someone that lives in London !

It’s called face and it’s rife in this part of the world where status counts for everything, never pass up an opportunity to rub your neighbours face in the dust and put them in their place.
It’s built on the Shopping District so no one but odd foreigners would complain about it! This mall has been in the planning for 10 years! It’s one step closer to Connecting Asok to Phrom Pong by Skywalk just Wished they built the Skywalk the Entire Facade of the Building! A Hot/Humid city 365 days does need Decent Size malls that become A/C public Spaces when open!
Plus you don’t need to shop when you visit the mall lol😂!!!

Honestly ! As a Thai person, I like the other mall better than Emsphere ,like Siam Paragon,ICONSIAM and MBK also Central Embassy.The Emsphere they target are young and have money costumers.The Siam Paragon is nice and has everything, the Central Embassy is a luxury shopping mall everything imported, the price is so hight but I like the atmosphere.My favorite are The ICONSIAM and The MBK ,The ICOSIAM is the best shopping mall they received 4 of 12 awards at the International Council of Shopping Centers.They have many many ... costumers that want to take a picture, make a video clip, the river bank location is unique, the food court ground floor is busy to many people, but you can relax at the top floor.For The MBK everything is good price and you can bargain,I've found good products and reasonable price.
If they Connected Asok to the EM District I’d give it major props! It’s sad to see they didn’t collaborate with the Surrounding Hotels around it!
