Padmarajan was a legend. A writer, who made brilliant works like ‘Udakappola” . Aside from that, a brilliant script writer and a director. A real genius. Today’s generation unfortunately doesn’t have this kind of talent. 🙏 His words were spot on. Today he’s admired for movies that flunked in the box office during his time. Probably only MT is ahead of him when it comes to classical movies 🎉

എന്തൊരു പ്രതിഭ ആയിരുന്നു, നേരത്തെ പോയി. മരിക്കുമ്പോൾ ഒരു 40 വയസുകാണും. ഒരിക്കൽ സംസാരിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്, മുതുകുളത്തു പോയികണ്ട്. ഉദകപ്പോള 'മലയാളനാട്ടിൽ' ഖണ്ഡശ്ശ വരുന്ന നാളുകൾ. 1978 ആവണം. pre degree കാലം.
വ്ലാവുമരം എന്നു തുടങ്ങുന്ന ഒരു പുസ്തകമുണ്ട് അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെതായി. ( ഇപ്പോൾ പേര് മറന്നു ). പ്ലാവ് എന്നത് മനോധർമത്തിലാക്കിയതാണ് വ്ലാവ് എന്നാണ് പൊതുവെ കരുതപ്പെടുന്നത്. എനിക്ക് ഈ മരം അറിയാം. ഔഷധി ആണ്. 'മലൈവാകടത്തിൽ' ലെ പാടൽ, "തെറ്റാളൻ തേടിയ ദ്രവ്യമെല്ലാം
കാട്ടാന തിന്ന കനി പോലാകും "
എന്നത് വ്ലാങ്കായേകുറിച്ചാണ് ! അത്ഭുത കഥകളാണ്. അതെല്ലാം അദ്ദേഹം സന്തോഷത്തോടെ കേട്ടു.

But what about the producer? It's ok for a director to have a flop.
That's why being a Producer is such a hard thing.
That's why only few are successful.
A Producer should know what he wants to do with a particular filim. A producer should be aware of the Market. Then only he should select his projects. Cinema is such an unstable industry and the producer should know that before he commits to a movie.
You see , The Producer always has a choice . It is his call whether to trust someone with a project.He can always chose not to be a part of the movie. But once the Project is on ,he actually has no control over the process and the results. All he can do is to trust the Story, trust the director. Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not.
A movie like Guppy was a box office failure, even though it was a good movie and people loved it after Dvd release. So Who was responsible for the failure of that movie at the box office?? Because Director did a good job, Actors performed well. But it still failed..
That's how it is sometimes...
Uncertainty is part and parcel of this industry.

നമ്മൾ ഇപ്പോൾ ആഘോഷിക്കുന്ന പദ്മരാജൻ പോലും അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ കാലത്ത് വേണ്ടത്ര അംഗീകരിക്കപ്പെട്ടിട്ടില്ല.
ഒരാളെ പുകഴ്ത്താൻ വേറെ ഒരാളെ താഴ്ത്തി കെട്ടുന്നത് വളരെ മോശം ആണ്.. അതും ദിലീഷ് പോത്തനെ പോലെ കഴിവ് തെളിയിച്ച ഒരു സംവിധായകനെ
