Noise blankers had little difference I found in those days. It inserted distortion I found ..Was just RC components to cut off the lower noise frequencies. Nowadays it's all digital ,far superior. You can compare what I said to the Rumble filter circuit found in the old HIFI systems cutting out the Rumble from a record turntable deck. Same principle.
Never owned those radios, but my first serious HF radio in 1976 was my Heathkit RA1 rx.i built from the kit in my Teens. All valve superhet. No filters, very basic superhet single conversion radio with a BFO for SSB and CW. That was it. I did all my CW with it along with the Heathkit DX100U. .I had the ability to recieve CW out of many without a filter. , But lost that ability now with modern radios. So this radio Kevin is superior to my early days. In did have others , but nothing special .
This is the best video that I have seen on the 8800. Well done!
Nice overview!
Love my FRG-8800 (and 7700!)
Good, sensible review. Says a lot, and does it well. Thanks.
Like the display of the FRG 8800 and it' bar graph S meter
I have had this radio since 1991. The past few years I cannot pick up any channels except for WWV very faintly.
Excellent review. Very thorough. Very informative 👍
I much prefer the yellow orange display to the green version. For me it would be much easier on the eye for any night time DX.
This radio is very beautiful. Beter than nowadays: too small, too many knobs, a tragedy for repair.
Awesome radio
How would you compare this with the elite 750 ? thanks
No Idea I am afraid as I don't have an Elite 750
Do you perceive much difference when using the noise blanker mode switch on the back?
I haven't noticed any difference but I don't use the NB much.

They say the 7700 is superior
I don't have one now to directly compare but I did have a 7700 years ago and I much prefer the 8800
