  • If you had your tooth extracted, you may be concerned about what to do next. Here's a simple checklist for the first few days 📝:
Leave the office with dental gauze in your mouth, you need to bite it until you get home 😬. Then, examine it to check if you are not actively bleeding and no longer need to hold pressure or if a new gauze is required.
Hold an ice pack on the side that was worked on for 20 minutes, remove it for 10 minutes, and then re-apply for another 20 minutes. ❄️🧊
If you are no longer bleeding you can have soft food 🍚🍵. Avoid hard and crunchy food on the side where the tooth was extracted. 🌮🥜
Avoid alcohol and smoking in the first 3 to 4 days. 🍺🚭
Brush your teeth on the night of the extraction and rinse gently with just water. The next day, gently rinse the area with warm salt water. You can do this 2-3 times a day for the first 4-5 days. 🍶🧂
Take all medications prescribed by your dentist. 💊

The actual extraction of my molar didn't hurt at all.
She numbed me pretty good. I felt some pulling and tugging and it did take a while, but was not uncomfortable.
The second day, the side of my face kind of felt bruised, but not intolerable at all, just a little bit, so I took some ibuprofen and Tylenol.
Third day I felt a little swollen feeling in my jaw when I woke up, so I took some more ibuprofen Tylenol and it helped.
Just drinking liquid and soft food.
All in all, I should've had it pulled sooner. (and maybe if I would've had it looked at sooner they might've only needed to do a root canal instead of an extraction).
The pain I was feeling in my nerve from the infection for the past few months was horrible.
The extraction was a piece of cake.

I got an extraction on Friday. Today is Monday and still having off and on again pain. The extraction itself was not painful at all. They put numbing cream on before the shot. I could barely feel the shot for just a few seconds. There was a little pressure when the tooth came out, nothing that was concerning. If you need to go to the dentist, go sooner than later. I speak from experience.

The nurse was and I called her out in front of the head dentist. He was pissed!!! He said that He wouldn't have pulled it. He would have gave me antibiotics first and pain meds to take and return in 3 days for extraction. I told him the nurse didn't numb me up and the dentist was rushing!! The nurse was quiet the whole time. The head dentist apologized and said he will up the antibiotics dosage and recheck in 3 days. He was an older nice respectful dentist. He left out the room and the nurse began talking, she pulled up my tooth Xray and began explaining I was swollen from the infection around the tooth. I said, oh no no no, your preparation was BRUTAL, I told YOU continuously that I felt the tooth and gums! She goes, Well next time I'll numb you up so that we'll have to drag you out ha ha!! Not sure if there wasnt enough novocaine used in the upper areas or if it started wearing off by the time he got to those two. Anyways he finished up, threw in some stitches and gauze and the dental assistant noticed me shaking and soaked in sweat, she asked if i was feeling pain during the extractions and boy was I ever for those top two teeth. I had 4 wisdom teeth pulled last Wednesday , & the pain was unbearable , went back to the dentist both Thursday and Friday of last week , the put some paste on the extraction site , went to the ER on Sunday because the pain had me in a frenzy , crying and screaming , the hospital prescribed Lidocaine , it worked to a certain degree . The meds they had me taking were Ibuprofen 800 and Hydrocodone , the hydrocodone was NO HELP at all , I’m on day 7 and still experiencing pain , in both sides , just irrigation alone is painful , I can barely open my mouth , my jaw is so sore and my throat is swollen , the Dr had complications with my teeth because they were so big and the bone was to dense . I don’t wish this kinda pain on anybody . There’s no dry socket or infection (thank God) I just want to know what else I can do to decrease this pain , and what I can do/use to soothe my throat and not be in pain when I stick my tongue out .

I think i may have gotten a dry socket, bc I'm in a little pain here and there, but I can tolerate it a bit.. since it's been 2 weeks for u. U can brush ur teeth and try avoiding ur extraction site bc it may hurt if u accidentally hit it. Also don't forget to use mouth wash. If it's pretty strong, it can numb ur extraction site a bit and give u temporary relief.. Also very good for the health of ur mouth and the healing process.. put ice pack on ur cheek where it hurts to alleviate the pain.. that's all. Just keep ur mouth clean and brush, floss and mouth wash. U should be good

I’ve had teeth extracted before but the pain normally subsides in a couple days. This is different than anything I’ve experienced before. He extracted the tooth, and then the dental assistant came in and immediately put a temporary bridge over the area where they just took a tooth out. I already feel like there’s an infection going on underneath. I was so much pain. And today I woke up in my eyes and my face were so swollen. Should I take the amoxicillin that he prescribed me? I didn’t go in for an infection I went in because I broke the crown off of the tooth that I already had a root canal on it. So he had to extract that tooth and the only other option of covering that gap was to build a bridge. But I feel like they should’ve let that area heal first before putting something over it like a temporary bridge. That area is so hot and swollen and irritated right now.

Root canal and crown for tooth $3500. That crown fell out and the dentist said he now needed to extract that tooth that he had to do a root canal on., another $650 to now extract the tooth and $5000 to build a bridge. as I wrote four months ago, I was very uncomfortable for quite a few months. And then the pain seemed to go away until the bridge fell out! Now the pain is back and excruciating . Eyes swollen . I don’t know what is going on but I’m so nervous he’s gonna tell me that he needs to now do a root canal on the tooth that he shaved down to build the bridge. I’m in my 40s and this guy has already taken me for tens of thousands of dollars on root canals.@@DashaS-uf3xj

You are way off on the pain levels. It depends on the tooth. Where it is and what condition. I had 4 front teeth pulled last week. 2 where broke off below the gum line. Your 2-3 on 10 pain scale is insulting. After a week, the roof of my mouth is sore and still too swollen to wear a partial. I've had both my rotator cuffs done, and a single orchiectomy (cancer), a broken sternum and broken rib. None of them hurt close to as intense and length in days of pain. By selling the idea that it really doesn't hurt much makes me say to myself, YOU will never have your hands near me. YOU ARE WRONG!
