A single "Oi" is a crude way of getting someone's attention when you need them to listen to you. Great work guys. If you spend a lot of time listening to a lot of Bon Scott era AC/DC you will get ahold of a lot of their history. And enjoy it.
So glad you guys got to react to this, one of my childhood faves I grew up with my parents playing Acca Dacca all the time. And since ya asked about the chant, "Aussie Aussie Aussie, Oi Oi Oi" as a call and response originated as a variation from a british chant that went "Oggy Oggy Oggy", we did our own version of it and it stuck as a point of National pride--in fact it got a lot of exposure because of the 2000 Olympic games which were held in Sydney had tonnes of crowds chanting it during events, so the rest of the world got to hear it so much it kinda overrode the old chant. Kinda neat huh?
Hell yeah I love stuff like that 4 dudes with instruments changing the way people think. If only a little. What more could anyone ask? While they still put on a kickass show.
Good Ol' Bon Scott, the best singer AC/DC ever had. So much energy and grit, Bon lived the songs. Plus, you could understand every word he sang. "Oi Oi Oi". I camped out in Acadia in Maine for four days, daze?, it was beautiful.
Every song they’ve ever written was from the waist down. No cerebral stuff, no politics, no religion. Just waist down. Anything sex, drinking, rock and roll. You don’t have to think hard. That’s why I love them!!!
" High Voltage " was their debut album . The whole album is great . My suggestion is , do all the albums with Bon Scott in it. Then move onto all the albums with Brian Johnson. 👌🤙
Bon did go to prison in Fremantle when he was a minor. He spent some time in a juvenile remand centre in Perth because of it. I think he drew from this experience but he wasn't an angry guy as far as I've read. Bon was the master of double entendres and he loved the ladies and having fun. The name came from Malcolm and Angus' sister (or sister in-law) after she saw it on her old sewing machine. As an Aussie, I have no idea where Aussie, aussie, aussie, oi, oi, oi comes from. I think it's our version of the english oi. You guys should try the Jack. It's a very bluesy song and it's a great example of Bon's cheekiness.
T.N.T. was the very first album I ever got, on cassette. Still one of my all time favourite albums. Nearly every song on the album is a classic. And second album I got was Faith No More's Angel Dust. It was good start for my love for music.
Great reaction, guys. I loved Bon Scott as the lead singer.... you never knew what he was going to do. But, you knew that he would do it with a smile on his face. He was taken away way too soon.
IIRC, it was rhythm guitarist Malcolm Young(brother of lead guitarist Angus BTW) who got the name from the back of their mother's sewing machine. And yes, it was alcohol that ended Bon's life. Also gotta get to Money Talks, Dirty Deeds(Done Dirt Cheap), and my favorite, Have A Drink On Me
I think Angus Young once said that the lyric that best described Bon Scott was: "Lock up your daughter. Lock up your wife. Lock up your back door. Run for your life. The man is back in town. So don't you mess me 'round". Australia was pretty rough in the 70's and the music often reflected it. The lyrics for It's Long Way to the Top (if you wanna Rock'n'Roll) are another good example of this. Another gritty Aussie band from the same era you should look at is Cold Chisel. They never made it big in the US but they're huge in Australia.
This was Bon Scott! The Oiy Oiy chant I heard in school a lot but not sure if it originated in Scotland. Anthrax covered this and played it live with Slayer and Kirk Hammitt. You should do High Voltage next.
The ozy ozy ozy was a variations of the British rugby chant oggy oggy oggy, Australians used their versions in the late 60s during a cricket match. Was made famous during the 2 Olympics. I had to look this up because i had no clue.
‘Trinitrotoluene’ became the preferred explosive over its predecessor, dynamite for two reasons. 1. It had a longer shelf life and because dynamite had to potential to go off at any given moment if it was struck by an object, or dropped. Once dynamite is past its shelf life, it can even explode at random with no external forces weighing on it. Its worth mentioning, that Alfred Nobel invented dynamite, and because of that, an award of a ‘Nobel prize’ was named in his honor, to anyone who achieved a great break through in several categories; including: chemistry, biology, or a significant act of humanity (ie; the ‘Nobel Peace Prize’
I heard this for the first time in middle school on Z-ROCK. I miss that channel, everything from AC DC to Venom. I don't even know if it's still around.
@@LiveAlcheme exactly! I love Brian don’t get me wrong. But the Bon era songs are sooo much better with Bon on vocals. Brian does a good job covering, but no one could ever match Bon.
Aussie Aussie Aussie, Oi Oi Oi I believe would originally come from Great Britain who use Oggie Oggie Oggie, Oi Oi Oi. The chant has other variants worldwide, adapted for sporting teams etc..
You can always tell a difference between Bon and Brian when it comes to AC/DC songs. Bon's voice was more bluesy and you could understand the lyrics. Brian's always seemed more of a scream or a yell and unless you had the lyrics, you couldn't understand him, even with the Cockney British accent. The oy,oy oy part may have been inspired by a soccer chant, the band was Australian and British if i remember right, and in the other countries, soccer is hugely popular. As far as what most AC/DC songs are about, it boils down to four things: women, sex , drinking and rock & roll. Just like their sound, what the songs are about are pretty simple. I always think of TNT being about a popular action movie star, who always got the girl in the movies. Think like a James Bond, John Wayne, Charles Bronson, Bruce Lee, Chuck Norris, people like that. Always weren't afraid to fight for a woman's love or honor against the bad guys.

Actually, the original phrase is "oggy, oggy, oggy", to which the reply comes "oi, oi, oi". It was made famous by Welsh comedian Max Boyce back in 1971, but was originally used by the Cornish, either to drum up trade for pasties (oggy being a shortened form of hoggan, which was the local word for pasty), or it was used by the wives of miners to tell their menfolk their lunch was ready.

Love Brian Era AC/DC but ALWAYS WILL BE A Bon Scott Fan - he came from nothing but put them on the Map - great Singer/Frontman with a sharp wit... The Live Version of "Whole Lotta Rose" is GREAT as well. Bon could command an Audience.
Like Angus used to say about Bon, "He used to like to boogie". Meaning he would be out all night at the clubs, drinking (mostly) and dancing and just being an extroverted front man.
The Name came from the metal tag on their sister's Singer sewing machine. It had an AC/DC metal tag on the side and whilst they were trying to come up with a name for the group, someone (I think it may have been their brother George) saw the tag on the sewing machine and boom ACDC was born.
AC/DC have always been about staying true to the roots of rock 'n' roll, with the innuendo/double meaning. Even the term 'rock 'n' roll' is slang for sex. :O Also, Angus Young likes to pay homage to one of the founders of rock, Chuck Berry, with the 'duck walk' that he would do while playing guitar. Also a sort of battle cry for the late 70's early 80's hard core punk or OI ! movement in the UK. Of course that has nothing to do with AC / DC.
As in...."Oi! Ya bloody fair dinkum dickhead!" 😂
Is it always crude or confrontational? Would you consider it as the equivalent of yelling “HEY!” ?
@@Robert-un7br I think crude is an exaggeration. It is more like colloquial. Of course a lot depends on how it is expressed.
