    I'm from Ukraine. 1 for us is really strange smiling to strangers, we make it only for friends or if we have a conversation with someone which whom we have a business. When you smile without reason (I'm not your friend) it can be so, that you want to sell me something and it's annoying.2.We speak russian really oft, but we know by sure both languages. Oh, yeas, these mistakes drive me crazy. 3. We always take off shoes at home. Only emergency service can walk into our house in shouse. In other situations that mean you don't appreciate owner of the house. 4. It's not cheap anymore here because of war. 😢5. Sometimes we try to be quiet, but not always. 😂😂😂😂

    Lowering your volume down is definitely something Americans have trouble with, I've struggled to speak quietly even when people tell me they can hear me and don't need to speak so loud. It's because speaking so loud is pretty normal here especially when you are talking with a group of your buddies.
    Another really important thing to do if you are American or maybe another nationality is washing your hands before every meal. Alot of my friends told me they found that odd and no wonder America was getting hit so hard with the Kung Flu

      They're one of the most neurotic countries I've been to. Close the windows on a stuffy day coz they might get a chill!
      Don't whistle that's stupid!
      Wear winter clothes on the beach even on a warm day. Hide behind screens on the beach to change. Most girls won't go topless coz people will say they're prozzies. Won't have a communal shower with other girls in gyms.(Girls told me this btw) Instead have separate cubicles with bathing suits not bikinis.
      Odessa is slightly different to that and the younger ones are now saying FUCKKK THAT to the commie narcissistic USSR generation.

      @@steffanhoffmann8937 Well, boys, grow up and overcome your fears :) Ukrainians are all traumatized by the 20th century which you only notice once you get out of the society, but there is really no need to be bitter about. Am I right that some of these tips apply less to a dutch person than to someone of brit, italian, spanjard or especially someone from USA? Because in Dutch culture it is werid when saying how are you, to everyone you meet or being loud en overenthusiastic out of well meaning politeness. We are very direct and straightforward, which I prefer because it shows that you are truly interested in a someone or a conversation when you do ask how someone's day is. Anyway thanks for your little insight on Ukrainian culture. I can't wait to go on my planned roadtrip through Ukraine this spring.

    Another one from my time in Moscow (not Ukraine, I know, so maybe different): a group of us (Western colleagues) went into our work canteen (in sep building over the road) and draped our winter coats over the back of our seats rather than using the (unsupervised) garderobe. An embarrassed waitress came to ask us to hang them in the correct place. I got the impression that outer coats are classed a bit like outdoor shoes - not clean for inside.

    • @ConorClyneTsarExperience

    • @povar1981
      @povar1981 4 года назад +1

      that's weird. In Ukraine it doesn't really matter: in canteens/cafes etc. you can leave your coats over the back of your seats or use the hanger. The only exception is when those places have a special garderobe room with an employee taking your coats and looking after them - then you'd better leave it there.
      But if you're entering someone's apartment then of course it's a big no-no: you definitely must take off your shoes and coats.

I’ve been to Ukraine 13 times and nobody smiles and laughs more then Canadians do and everything was fine for me. Mind you I was drunk every day that I visited there so there was truth to them thinking that. A woman will break all her rules for you if she’s head over heels for ya. If she’s getting bossy and you don’t put her in her place then she’ll think your weak. You make the rules. I didn’t go to Ukraine to make friends or ask anyone questions. I lived in Ukraine and Poland, Germany, Lithuania, Romania while doing culinary work not to long ago. The " Shoe " thing is just common sense especially when they clean the floors with a bucket and rags ( I believe we have 5 different vacuum cleaners in our house not counting the Shop Vacs in the garage). Many Americans make you take your shoes off at the door ( I do! ) . Talking about how cheap things are? Who likes a bragger and a loud mouth in any country. Of course in America and you'll hear some D-bag talking way above the crowd and its SUPER annoying for everyone no matter where you are or live. The one thing I will point out about Ukraine that I noticed and was very common was a lack of manners and respect towards Woman and the Elderly, Kind of blew me away actually ( Holding door's ect ect.. Nada in Ukraine!). Family is important to them and the Woman of Ukraine seem to be very loyal ( Faithful to their own ) for the most part. Ukraine has had this " Identity Crisis " since 1993 I believe, Most all other " Soviet Bloc " nations have seemed to move on to become amazing countries ( Like Poland that is just an absolute pleasure to live and study in ) Corruption rules Ukraine and don't get me wrong here! Ukraine has amazing culture and wonderful people but from the local Police to the main body of Government they are very bad and so very corrupt ( Mind blowing stories for another time ) Pay attention and keep the Embassy on Speed Dial if you do visit Ukraine. A lifestyle of this nature eventually spills down to the everyday citizen and Ukraine is a perfect example of this. The small Villages of Ukraine are a must see!! And the Markets they have, The food and culture and people are way different than the bigger city's like Kiev and Dnipro ect. And worth visiting for sure . Just being honest here, I spent 6 years in that part of the world.
