During my time living in Lviv, I dated 6 girls. None were with a matchmaker though. Two had been co-workers, two I had found on vk, one attended an English speaking club that I had hosted, and I found my current girlfriend through Couchsurfing. The age gaps were 18 years, 13 years, 11 years, 12 years, 16 years and the gap with my currently girlfriend of 2 years is 16½. I don't look like a male model nor am I rich. On the other hand, I'm not fat and bald. I'm 41, but I can pass for 29, so that's one factor. Other major factors are that I make an effort with my Ukrainian, know a ton about Ukrainian history and they find it endearing when I make safe, lighthearted jokes about Ukrainian grandmothers or do an impression of a Hopnyk. Ultimately, the age gap is not an issue because they find me relatable, responsible and not presumptuous. In all four cases, our first meeting was over a cup of coffee and the most they got from me after that first meeting was a kiss on the cheek. So the point is, it's definitely not impossible for somebody in their 40s to find a nice Ukrainian girl in her 20s.

You can hear Elena speaks out of experiences and I would like to add some additional info. I used to live in Sunny Isles which is like the Russian town of Florida and I had the experiences of meeting many ex soviet girls who left in their 20's and moved to USA with an older American man. First issue - most of this older man already had children from previous divorce and did not want any more children (so when the girl is 20 its ok but at 26 it will end the relation). Second issue - Some of this man just wanted a trophy wife (showoff they have a younger wife) and once she got older they switched to a newer model, in some cases the wife did not invest in her education and was stuck with a cheating husband because she was totally depended on him. Third issue - Lets say the couple have children by the time the child is 18-19 the husband is 60+ woman is 40+ education in USA is very expensive so when the child needs most help the husband is less financially supporting. On a final note this is a saying a heard in Odessa : If you see a foreigner with a much younger girl - he is a pervert BUT if you see a local with a much younger girl he is an oligarch :)

Pretty much a waste of Lena's experience and expertise. You don't have to accept or believe what the subject tells you, but it's pointless to arrange an interview and then attempt to conform the subject to your perspective. You should explore and facilitate the subject, and then analyse and contextualise the results afterward.
She only had the chance to make one point. She had nowhere to go in the conversation so she then reinforced that even local men held the same delusion. Again she had nowhere to go so she stated that you also hold the same delusion. You then attempted to exceptionalise yourself by saying that you didn't only look younger, but also were metaphysically younger somehow.
I appreciate the attempt, but you let your ego dominate, and so your interview was virtually fruitless except as an advertisement for the 10% off voucher.
I also had the same impression of this interview. The topic is interesting but somehow it seemed like he didn't want to accept that - according to her opinion - he is also already too old to match with a 20 year old girl (at least in terms of long-time relationships) ;-)

True, but only within limits. If you want within 10 years or so you can look the world over. If you want 30+ years difference then you need to look in Southeast Asia. Women there are poor enough to value security over everything else. Nowhere in the world do women in their 20s dream of a man in his 50s or older so just deal with it.

Well, age is important? yes, definitely it is, nevertheless there are other important aspects when you are searching your partner, for example, chemistry (compatibility), family values, cultural stuffs and stable economical situation. Most of the women are looking for for stability life and most of the mature men (if they are succesful men) can offer that, I can not generalize but if you offer a stable life to a woman you have 50% of the road walked, beyond age as such. But yes, difference between 5 and 15 seems to be good, it depends on the man and woman ages but from my perspective beetwen 7 to 10 difference is good to find a woman. Best Regards

Interesting comments in the comment section. There are cultures where the age gap is important. I am 58 and I wouldn't serously date anyone under 35. I have zero in common with a 20 yr old woman. I have no interest in partying until the cows come home. I have things I want to do and spending my free time in clubs and bars doesn't interest me. (When I was 20, yea. 58...not so much.) There is nothing wrong with people wanting to stay in their age range (whatever range they prefer). On the flip side, there are cultures, like in the Philippines, where many women place a higher value on security and having a family than on age (and physical appearance.) If that works for them, then OK. Isn't life great!?!
I've dated asian women. Unless they travel and are educated, it like living with a broken record about food, clothing and basic necessities OR sleeping with a big cute pillow, but still no meaningful conversations.

The maximum age gap for me, for a man with a reasonable level of life is 15-17. On the other hand if the man have this and is good looking, have good morals, is protecting, etc, then the age can go up but this cases are the less.

I have watched several of these videos about dating and marrying foreign women who speak languages different than the men, and have concluded that without good communication, there cannot be successful or reasonable understanding. When these two items are not in the mix, what is the couple supposed to do? I know--sign language--perfect. It is sad that most people from foreign countries of different languages fail to have enough insight to realise the major issues that are bound to occur as the result of poor or no communication. Relationships in which both partners speak the same language are challenging enough, but when they are completely different, what happens when they have vast misunderstandings? The false notion that love alone conquers everything is just that----FALLACY!!!
Compatibility is vital. A lot of marriages end when the children have all left the home because they had nothing in common and were never really compatible. Once the children left there was nothing holding them together.

I'll tell you what happens. When the children are born the wife mistakenly stops loving the husband for the sake of the children. The husband should leave but stays. The children are out of the picture and the mutual purpose is gone. The blame is entirely on the woman as the man is a dumb animal. The answer is for the wife to love the husband more than the children. This rebounds and the total sum grows exponentially and the family dynamic flourishes.
As far as I can tell, the West has a limited view of "family." If the family consists of parents + children (like in the West), when the children leaves what is left. Take a society where extended family members plays a large part in the family structure, then everything changes.
Compatibility is a complex thing. It will (likely) take time to discover enough about each other to determine if you are a good match with someone. I've had great relationships with an amazingly wide age gap (-30 to +20), but would I marry them? Well... No! I want and need someone closer to my own age that has had somewhat similar experiences as I have. Of course, YES - I think younger women are attractive and I'm sure we'd "get along" great as friends. But they are definitely looking for something vastly different in their lives than I am. I do *not* want to go out and party every weekend like a teenager. But if someone like Lena was available... I knew of a guy who was 87 and he was living in a certain country with four common law wives and they were in late ( legal) teens and early twenties. He was paying them an allowance per month that they were very happy about. If life has passed one by, and one has missed the chance at love in his youth- and middle age- ( which happens because of circumstances), the next goal is to become a sponsor. It's not illegal and not immoral and there are women that want that. You just need to have money. Even in the US, it is doable. Look at Hugh Heffner. He was paying all his ladies a generous allowance and at 84 married a 24 years old. Youth and female company saw him off to his death. No biggie. So, for "true"love, there is an age limit, but for its next-in-line substitute, there is none.
After being on a dating site with women from Ukraine for a long time who actually primarily speak Russian, I discovered that the worn-out adage that "age is just a number" is total fallacy. When the age gap is narrower, there is a greater probability of more common interests, obviously maturity on more of an equal level, and a big slice of wisdom with the probability of equal knowledge and wisdom about life in general. I also watched intently another video produced by a more professional gentleman who is much more knowledgeable about dating/marrying individuals who are within an age difference of no more than 15 years have far greater chances of success for long-term relations than those in which the ages are farther apart. The guy in this video is very naive when he says that age-gaps are not that big a deal. He isn't living in the real world where "forever" relationships are the objectives.
Age, and compatibility are important issues. However, nobody brought up financial stability, reliability, dependability aspects of what a husband has to offer before embarking on this journey. Most American relationships depend on dual incomes households. Are Ukrainian wives expected to contribute or would they prefer being homemakers?

These girls have been conditioned to date older men up to 20 years difference. From Soviet times and even the Tsar times. For example, during communist times most girls wanted to leave their family and get their own apartment this meant marrying men that had their own apartment professors, doctors, scientist, engineers etc. These educated gentleman usually where able to obtain their own apartment at age 40 so these young girls 20 22 chose to get out of their extended family apartment and go with a successful older man.
Second during the Tsar times men could not marry until there military service was up, which was 38 to 40 years old.

Biggest age gap I have ever encountered was in the central Oklahoma, US. The bartender was 27 and she was married to a man who was 67. Of course, this is an outlier and not the norm. I think the age difference Lena was talking about would be most common.

Conor, I definitely disagree with your comment about age not making any difference at all between men and women. It absolutely does make a difference in several areas of life, such as personal interests, the fact that a much older man enters a relationship with a much young woman with rather distinctively differently outlooks on life in general. How can the two find much in common if, for instance, the man's health is dwindling, or at least worse than the woman's health. How does that younger woman think she will deal with the much older man when his health suddenly, or even slowly, deteriorates but she is still young enough to have deep desires of traveling, jogging, hiking, etc.? He can no longer do such activities, but she thinks he should go on forever and keep up with her on the physical, mental and emotional levels. Come on, Conor, be sensible and welcome to the real world where age takes its toll on us all, and the wider the age gap in a relationship, the greater the chances of failure somewhere in the future, whether very near or farther away.
Men hit their peak attractiveness between 35-45 and women between 20-25 so it just biologically makes sense to have that age gap. Just make sure you stay fit as you get older. :)

There is an Online society called the May/December Society where all the people are big age gap. They are from all walks of life and parts of the world most are not rich. Many were not seeking age, but love. Unless you marry for lust or just appearance it is the person inside you attract to and hopefully things you have or enjoy in common. Our outward appearance changes, but usually who we are inside changes little. A major study over 40 years showed age gap was not a primary cause of divorce nor was divorce more than in non age gap relationships. Of course age gap marriages are far less common and if someone is looking for someone much younger their chances are very limited. But at the same time with so many Ukrainian ladies age 30 to 45 who are single and looking with limited good prospects available and then limit themselves with age they could very easily be looking at a lonely future.

Well , I join several real Ukrainian dating sites , in Russian , and I never found any lady that search for a man older then 12 years from her. And this is really rare. They frequently looks for guys that are 3 to 7 years older, not more then it. So regarding those American websites that provides you tons of hot chicks in their twenties that just adore man over 40, it is all bullshit.

This is why old guys lie about age. It's like the arms race for over 40's and why I miss the days I could be happy dating younger or older. A buddy of mine spent 7k to chat with ladies on a Ukrainian dating site. He spontaneously traveled there and all the girls disappeared, not one date from all the honeys. I howled, I toured Ukraine with a group in 2004 and chatted with a few girls.

I heard about the "rule of five years". I mean that if you are 60 years old in the states, you can maybe date a woman of 50, so in ukraine you can reduce the age in five years or so.
'Half + 7' is a common rule for the social acceptability of an age difference. That's different to a 'realistic' age gap.

In 1995 our second daughter was born. Long story short, Lena passed away 2 and a half years ago from a rare blood problem. I miss her dearly! However, our 2 daughters are doing well. Next the age gap. I have more experience with this subject than anyone I have ever met. Have dated with large age gaps for years and years, some with such a large gap you would not believe me. I know many who read this would think, oh he hires escorts etc. Not so. I find that attraction has little to do with age. If you are trying to gauge what age gap is reasonable for you in Eastern Europe I would suggest that instead of using some random empirical number you examine what age gap you date in your home country, that tells a lot about your ability to interact with an age gap. Then if you wish to date in Ukraine or other Eastern European countries you can probably add about five years to that age gap. Its all relative to you, the people involved.
I also notice that you, Conor, seem to always bring the discussion back to appearance, "bald" "fat" "old looking" and so on. That may be a useful criteria for the party crowd, I think the type of experience you and your clients seek is rather immediate and short lived. But my experience in Kiev is that it is FAR more important to be intelligent, successful, funny with serious intent. I am not, bald, fat or otherwise odd, but I am not George Clooney or Brad Pitt either. Confidence is also a big issue.
