"I learned it from you, dad!"
True also😂
Had to shout this bit out to the whole house to laugh at..... 😀
the accuracy of some statements make awkward moments of truth that just slide by, unadultered

edit: I am stealing that! lol
"I admire you overselling the bit." Best comment on this segment EVER! 😁
Absolutely!!
Honorable mention for "Phil Swift"
"I lied..." Dave still has it, 100%. I almost choked on my coffee!
yea he just has a way about him doesn't he I was laughing away. Eariliest memory, drivers license, like what? Maybe that concussion he had left it's mark if so.
Letterman will never get old. What a legend. These two together make for some epic banter!
Years ago, probably early nineties, I was mid 20's, I would watch Letterman and literally laugh out loud.. Belly laughter. My Mom could hear me. Once she asked *what in the heck are you laughing at?" I told her how hilarious and silly he us. (She didn't 'get it') 😂
I'm surprised David didn't say that the scariest animal was a squirrel 😂 he used to talk about how scared he was of them in NY 🐿
Foo Fighters "Everlong" has so much meaning to Dave while he was recovering from the heart surgery.
Is his beard a Freudian substitute for his thinning hair?
@@dthomas9230 right! I remember when he started losing his hair, there was like an island of hair separated from the rest of his hair & he would lay a pencil down in between
“I lied.” 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
"What do I win?" :D What a legend
"Another questionert!" was right there...!
I was laughing out loud at "What do I win?" after the video ended, then came to comments looking for this exact comment. You win. I'm not sure what you win, but you win.
He wants to win back The Tonight Show:)
Your dog's undying love.
@@THE-A-TRAIN tbh, I was thinking of the Family Guy pilot. It has a stag party with a "drink the beer" contest... 😇
I started watching Letterman about 1984, just after high school. I have been a devoted Letterman fan from then until this very day.
I started Jr. year, watching his guest hosting stints on The Tonight Show, then his morning show. We had watch parties my freshman year at college when Late Night started in Feb. ‘82. In regards to celebs who I don’t actually know, Dave’s passing will hit me harder than any other I have experienced. He defined my generation, as far as humor was concerned.
Same here
What happened today that made you dislike him?
@@RHelenius Clever!
Devoted fan since his morning show. And got to see him in person. This man is brilliant!
Always love to see David Letterman!
Same :)
Man, I loved watching Letterman growing up. I love that he's still interviewing.
It was fun to watch Letterman grow up!
Best Colbert Questionert ever. Perfect combination of thoughtful answers & not giving a rat's ass.
He doesn't play by the rules, but he's earned that right.
I loved, "It's not my show."
Dave might be playing by the rules of Fizbin.

David Letterman is a TV icon, Retirement Dave is a fucking legend! His DGAF attitude is hilarious and inspirational
He does have a show on Netflix.
I can not articulate the words to express how much I enjoy watching Letterman. He's just so funny. Stephen is good too.
Stephen was the perfect person to pass the torch to when Dave retired.

Yes... I agree 💯
There are surprisingly good together ❤
I started watching the David Letterman show in the '80s and continued until the mid-2000s. He helped heal my mental diseases.
As soon as Dave said "I admire you overselling the bit", I hit like!😂
Somebody needed to say it!
3:02 _"What do you think happens when we die?"_
Worms eat your brain.
(In some cases, though, you don't have to wait to die.)
I yelled EVERLONG at my screen as the song question was asked - bless! And honestly, one CAN (and should) listen to Everlong repeatedly, every version of it from the studio to the acoustic to every live recording because it's that good.
Colbert Questionert is my favorite segment and this one with the legendary David Letterman the best ever. I miss him so much and EverLong was no surprise ❤️
If I remember right I believe Foo Fighters played Everlong on his last show
Loved this. Great to hear David mention, however briefly, his late mom, who was always a good sport when she appeared on his show.
Me watching dave at 15. me watching dave at 54
legend both ways.
I hate that too at intersections. Just follow the rules of driving.
"Once Upon A Time In The West" FANTASTIC ANSWER!
classic western
So good to see David Letterman again.
The man completely changed late night television for the better.
Rock On, Dave!
Dave: "And I admire you over selling the bit" Hahahaha, I miss him so much! 🤣
David Letterman. Is he the Santa Claus we all need, or the ZZ Top frontman we truly deserve?
“I was told 6!!” 🤣🤣
I love David Letterman!!! Great to see him
I love how he just answered "six" without a moment's hesitation.
Well, he had been slipped the answer in advance...by some liar, apparently!
The remark about fried bologna sandwiches fried in butter leading to open heart surgery is totally honest and insightful and thoroughly true! Thanks!
It depends on your genetics! The only one with heart issues in my family was my mom, the one who did NOT eat stuff like fried bologna sandwiches!
I would think that his memories of fried bologna sandwiches predates his memory of getting his driver's license.
As Stephen was asking the song question I was thinking of my own answer would probably be “Everlong”. My jaw hit the floor when Dave said the same!
I ❤ David Letterman…I remember watching The top 10 at 10 when I was a kid with my mom. He is such a sweetheart.
I like that he doesn’t care one bit whether he answers the questions or not.
Dave, always Dave.
The man is still sharp and funny!
He’s not that old!
@@ruthmarland835 lol compared to Joe? 😅

lol Colbert's disappointment when Letterman picked oranges

David Letterman shaped my sense of humor in my mid to late teen years. The Top10 list was my favorite thing on late night Tv.
but stupid human tricks and stupid pet tricks
human velcro
He always puts a smile on my face.
The one and only... Living legend!
I don’t watch Colbert, but when I hear Letterman is on I run to RUclips as fast as I can, will forever miss that legend in late night
It's grt to have U here...❤
I can’t believe there is someone else who is driven crazy by people stopping and waving me to go first! I am just like David Letterman! That brings me joy. 😊
You are not alone! Those people are crazy. They don’t get that what they’re doing is actually dangerous.
Dave is & always will be The Tonight Show to me. Fried baloney & Foo Fighters "Everlong". Love the tune & never listen to it without thinking of Dave. When he told the story of the tune after his heart surgery. . 😔 I miss you David Letterman!!! I cried for 2 week's after watching his final show! ❤❤❤❤
I'll never forget when Dave said he was raised by poodles.
The Best answers to your Questionert ever! Comedian answers! Quick wit Answers! I laughed and laughed and laughed! "I LIED". Hilarious.
Way back in 1983 I worked 2nd shift and got home before 11:30pm right when The Letterman Show aired. Watched it every single night after work. I can’t believe 41 years later, Dave is still around and making us all laugh just like no time has passed at all. The GOAT of late night! ❤😊 Watching him with Colbert at the same theater where his show aired, is the best! Thank you Stephen ❤❤
THE NATIONAL MENTION! It makes me feel irrationally proud of my favourite band
I’m right there with you, Dave, on that one about the morons at the intersections. They drive me nuts too.
This was Dave. He never ran into a talk show format he didn't try to subvert.
Love how immediately, quietly and even authoritatively Dave said “oranges” and Stephen just moved on 🤣🤣
That was definitely SC showing big respect to DL -- SC didn't mention his own opinion on apples being far superior -- after all, you can't put peanut butter on an orange! IYKYK 😂
It’s because Oranges come pre-sliced by nature!
You can have a peanut butter and jam sandwich with a glass of orange juice.
@@MrForeverMusicFan THAT’S what the next person who chooses oranges should say to Stephen!!
I actually clapped and yelled YES at fried bologna sandwiches...which woke my roommate lmao
If he would've stayed within the boundaries of the questions asked, I would've said, "Where'a Dave? Who is this impostor?"
We loves us some Dave Letterman 🫶🏼
These are getting better with age. Letterman's and Carol Burnett's recent quizzes are wondermous!
Gotta love David he got it
I have the same favorite western as David Letterman!
Fond memories of tuning out, to tune in 🦋ith Dåve L, the ways he ‘rebooted’ his mindset was Phenomenal ✨by walking out of the theatre 🎭 to be run over by a speeding car, then walked back to his desk again, is Profound 🪄
Long may your beard grow Dåve L✨🌻🖖🏽🦘
Seeing Dave with Stephen really allows the greatness of Colbert to shine through.
We are so lucky to have this master at work.
By far the most funny answers ever. So good!
I like when he tells him he overselled the bit.
OVERSELLING THE BIT! My hero finally calls Colbert out. Dave keeps getting better with age.
I remember him when he was a weather guy in Indianapolis.
I wasn't expecting to have something in common with David Letterman today. The Beach Boys was my first concert too. That was the most endearing intro of the Colbert Questionert "Dad." And I will never forget Letterman having the Foo Fighters play "Everlong" on his last show ever.
Once Upon a Time in the West IS fantastic. Absolutely amazing action film. They don't make movies like that anymore. Or if they do, it's like once a decade. It's more like an opera with how well the music blends into everything. You can see in many shots how the composition has been planned with the music in mind and then cut properly for ideal emotional impact. And the storytelling, the dialogue. There's nothing extra. Everything fits.
I remember watching Johnny Carson when I was a kid. I loved to watch people like Burt Reynolds Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, and the comedians, which I can't remember their names!? So many of these great shows now and then were great in their own ways. Thanks for the laughs 🤣🤣😊
Rich Little comes to mind
Who couldn’t miss that great familiar laugh?
Always great to see David Letterman --- totally in his element --- hasn't lost that comedic touch --- Bravo Dave!
Love. These. Gents.
I’m still waiting for the guest who, after being asked what number Colbert is thinking of and he says “no,” responds “well, you are now”
The GREATEST OF ALL TIME right there!!
Snarky, dry humour. It real keeps the Colbert Questionnaire interesting and not monotonous. Love it! 😂
They should start giving people golden buttons for doing the Questionert. Make em part of an exclusive club. SNL has the jacket. The Late Show has the "Golden button" ooooOOOOo AhhhhhHhhh
First concert?!?! That’s a brand new question 🤔
Dave got some guts❤
"People won't quiz me with nonsensical questions" Letterman is a riot 😂❤🎉
"Do everything at intersection to stop people from motioning me to go first" .,.... yep that is me too .... Especially when they have the ffing right of way !
I knew he was going to say, "Everlong"....
They're out there Fighting Foo!
I love David letterman
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
What an excellent choice in song! It’s my favorite too!
That was wild to listen to his answers. While David Letterman and I are 34 years apart, his favorite sandwich struck a very nostalgic chord in me, and our first concerts were both The Beach Boys.
The coliseum is still there, just went through a major renovation a couple years ago. Still a staple at the Indiana state fair after all these years! You will not find better sweet corn than freshly grown, picked and grilled Indiana sweet corn.
The genius switch is STILL ON!
Two of the late night comedy kings!!! Blessings to both, and thanks for all the laughs all these years...
I dont think Letterman realized the audience were laughing because he referred to his son as 'the child'
He did. It was callback to his show, and they got it
I won't motion any elderly person to go first, ever again. I'm sorry!
Love @Letterman since 1981. From his Weather days a co-worker told me about, and guest hosting too. I'd get off my CNA job at 11, get home and settled and Letterman was on. Best way to wind down after work! Loved every minute of every year I've been able to watch you!
Sidenote: Just Curious... Has @StephenAtHome ever acknowledged that his Questionert is basically (a copy/homage to/or rip-off of) James Lipton's (Inside the Actor's Studio) questions. "Most of the shows was a one-on-one interview conducted by the host James Lipton in the 22 seasons. It`s followed by the host submitting a questionnaire to the guest. The questionnaire concept aired on Actors Studio was originated by the French television personality Bernard Pivot on his show Apostrophes, (1975-1986) the Proust Questionnaire."
PS If you've never watched them - do a search - great stuff. Glad that something similar is being carried on. Stephen should ask ALL of his guests, like Lipton did. It's good value!
Classic Dave ...love the banter between Dave and Steven...all in the joy of the Ed Sullivan Theater..
Thank you, Dave. For everything.
Nobody in the audience knows Phil Swift but David Letterman does? 😂😂😂
Dave is the GOAT!!❤❤❤
Man, I loved watching him from my adolescent years until his last show.
I will ALWAYS be in love with my David Letterman. 💋
Does Michael know? 😂
@@davidparker8221 LOL! Oh yes! 😁 Dave is one of my hall passes.
His hall pass is Angelina Jolie. 😉
I didn't get or like David Letterman originally. He was on too late for me, and what little I saw was so out of context it seemed meanspirited. And THEN I moved to Brooklyn/NYC for graduate school...THEN I GOT THE JOKES. Were it not for David Letterman I could not do my job as a Tour Guide in NYC. I had to develop that attitude, the NY edge, that I (from a small community outside of Pittsburgh, PA) didn't have. Unknown to him, he was a real role model to me. I regret that night when 3 of us had tickets to Les Miserables some guy offered us tickets to see Dave, and I didn't want to be the jerk that abandoned his girlfriend and another female friend. Every Christmas will include the Darlene Love Supercut of Baby, Please Come Home (Bruce Kapler on Sax!) and the late Jay Thomas "Lone Ranger" tale ("They'll believe me, Citizen!") God bless you and family!
That was awesome. Love how he engaged to make it a full-on bit.
Good luck to Rahal, Letterman, Lanigan Racing in the 500!
I will always miss Letterman's show.
For a moment, albeit brief, I thought Dave wasn't going to be "ready" for the Colbert" Questioneree'
Best annual show ….Darlene Love and Letterman Holiday Show. What a classic duo.
Omg Yes! The incomparable Ms. Darlene Love singing Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) on his Holiday Show was always THE BEST!!
I always enjoy seeing Dave.
Fried baloney was called 'pac-man sammies' in my house as a kid, and there was no better after school snack.
Letterman is closing in on 80 and he's still the funniest person on TV.
Yeah, he just turned 77 on April 12.
Wow Dave was dishing it out to his student tonight!😂😅😅
My first concert was Judy Garland.
Letterman is so damn funny. Luv to watch him on any show….. what a sense of humor ……😂
