I'd only seen Haka on Rugby pitches... Never before had I seen it being performed as a way to pay tribute to someone... Made me cry. So, so beautiful and powerful...
Danilo Rangel there’s a great haka performed by I think the same school for a teacher who retired, the entire school hall plus upper circle at back perform. That’s something else entirely.
@@apomtaylor8054 I have realized it is a traditional cultural manifestation. Too bad I wasn't able to see the Haka being performed firsthand while I was in Auckland 15 years ago. That would've been incredible, I know. But I can say I do have profound respect for it.
You know what's cool. Most of those boys are European new Zealanders. Not Maori by blood at all. In NZ everyone knows their school haka. And other haka as well :)
some public schools do, in most bilingual is optional. Well it was in my day. Most New Zealanders do not practice tikanga and majority of maori do not speak their own language. I grew up in multiple communities where racism was an acceptable practice.
5 years later and still Freaking outstanding. One of the things that unites Kiwis abroad - when you hear the haka, you know your soul comes home to Aotearoa, New Zealand. Ive heard it in China, South Korea and even in Cambodia - it still makes me think of home. USA with the Patea Maori Club with Te Reo Maori songs became hugely popular, the All Blacks with their haka, Te Reo is huge in Europe now with Alien Weaponry making it big abroad and all our artists who proudly display their art regardless of which discipline. Good on you New Zealand, Keeping it Kiwi.
Yo if i died and the community did this for me id feel like iv done my fare share in the society. that community shows they value each other what a nice tradition
I'm from the UK, not sure how I got to this (You-tube surfing) but I am so glad I did. What an amazing tribute, I have seen the Haka performed on numerous occasions but never performed so passionately!!
I think Hakka should be the world anthem. It will bring maturity sense of understanding and care to all human beings. This tradition is full of everything.
How can anyone give o thumb down for this beautiful farewell?!?! This is so touching!!! What a special man he must have been. My condolence to his family and friends.
I'm sorry, dude or dudette, but a haka is not a haka without the screaming. The haka is supposed to psych up Maori warriors for battle and to give themselves mana (spiritual energy). A haka with no screaming in it is not a haka at all rather it's just a perversion. It'd be just a bunch of fools doing weird movements. You say it would be more formal without the screaming, that is absolute nonsense. I'm sorry, but it's true. Also, sometimes screaming and getting angry in a positive manner is probably one of the best ways to mourn. These kids are mourning the death of a beloved teacher. They're not going to cry (though I'm sure some of them did) but they're going to honor him in the best way NZ culture has. In summary, I think you're absolutely wrong in this scenario
madworldfan123 dude seriously it's a haka for a funeral it's not all about battle ur not obviously maori if u don't know the diffeence haka is for battle chants, funerals and for welcoming get ur facts straight
It's the light inside you it hears our voice It wants to wake up it wants to care it wants to show love it wants to do the things you don't do and that's the love for everything in life all around you that is why you shear tears

Yeah I wouldn't recommend that m8. Yeah they organised this very moving haka but that isn't indicative of how the school actually functions. I went there and the teachers were toxic and racist af despite how much they seem to embrace multiculturalism. Their institution is still run by coloniser christian fundamentalism
You should search "Te puru haka" Enjoy :) Then search national kapa haka competitions. There are so many other types of traditional song and dances also.

that would be cultural appropriation unless given permission from the local iwi and are taught it properly with the correct understanding and not because they think it "looks cool"

Palmerston North doesn't have that high a Maori population
I went to a school where I was one of about 5 maori kids and even everyone in that primary school knew their local tribes haka.

The way the leader slows it down then lets the boys unleash their emotion and passion is beautiful

Doing the haka makes New Zealanders special.
Doing the Haka makes everyone doing it feel as one

Ask the Brits they tried the zulus when we didn’t want them around and we ate them at The Batle Of Sangwane. 🤷♂️😂
