Truly I say, the Haka is one of the things that will help keep Maori culture alive, as it is learnt by Maori and non maori school children throughout NZ. Ake ake ake, tihei mauri ora!
I mean technically I guess they can’t perform it if they don’t have maori blood for a specific occasion like birthdays with only New Zealanders or when they are overseas for something idk,but with other maoris then it’s alright cause I mean the Haka is Maori
Every single time I watch a Haka it just amazes me and if you can't feel the emotion then there is something wrong. It gets me every time. Such an amazing thing!! Great job!!
I’m just a girl from the US, but if I ever get the opportunity to witness the Haka in person, that would be a memory I would never forget. Have to give the Māori props, they are badasses
All we used to get to do was sing Gaudeamus Igitur from the "blue book" in the assembly hall! Things have certainly improved! Still setting great tradition and am proud to have been part of it. PNBHS Old Boy 74-78.
WOW! This made the hair on the back of my neck bristle. What a fantastic experience and to see all these young people together..doing the Haka.. I would have run in double quick time if I was confronted with this amount of warriors doing the Haka before a battle. Awesome and frightening! What passion and enthusiasm they have. Certainly not snowflakes when this is being performed!😁
Every time I see the Haka, it does hit home to me… even though I am Dutch, it just simply does! And although I know what a Haka is and stands for, your school system absolutely does not. Could you please explain to me the Year 13, and who the guys on the balcony and below are?
@Sammy659 year 13 in New Zealand is the final year of high school in most countries they are known as form 7 ... here you see juniors from year9-year12 (on the ground) honoring/farewells and respecting their fellow year 13s brothers through haka and in response yr13s is showing their respects their thank yous to the juniors and also teachers.. hope that makes sense :)
I can say that I have become obsessed with Haka I hope to go to NZ one day and hopefully learn haka and experience the culture. Big respect to the people for keeping their pride and culture

I have no idea what haka is Can someone please explain what haka is? Why do people do it? What does it mean? When do you perform a haka? What's the history behind the haka? 🤔🤔
I'm not a New Zealander, but as someone who has gathered some information about the ritual, a haka is basically like a battle cry and is usually performed by specific groups of Pacific-Islanders, especially the Maori who can be mainly found in New Zealand. However, in current times, hakas have become more common and can be learned by anyone who is willing to learn. It knows no race, gender, or age. One of its original intentions was to intimidate the enemy and showcase an army's immense power and determination in the face of war. That is why when performing a haka, people often take aggressive stances, make animalistic noises and chants, bearing their tongues as if to say they would not hesitate to devour an enemy's flesh, and rhythmic stomping to show synchronization and the power of number. This now has evolved into the world of competition where even national sports teams perform hakas before play. However, it is also a sign of great respect and approval towards another. It may not seem that way to some, but I perceive hakas to be something that gets one in very passionate state, almost bearing the soul even. That is why hakas can occur during a wedding, funeral, or another dignified ceremony. Hakas are probably one of the most interesting things some people will have the privilege of witnessing. The more passionate it is performed, the more you can recognize it as a legendary cultural tradition.
The haka is a war dance but in our time it's used as a sign of honour and respect.... Just like singing a loved ones favourite song at their funeral same thing... Us Maori will perform a haka or waiata to remember or honour their life
Ha......means to breath draw a breath deep Ka.......ignite...the fire within you with each breath drawn stokes the high intensity power needed to go into battle in this case life is the challenge seniors encourge the young genertions juniors pick up the challenge laid in front them and wish their comrades well as they move in their next chapter respect to all those b4 them honor to their tutors families that got them there different type used for the right occasion used to bring forth all emotions drawing energy from the elements to centre you group or no group we can all muster up our ancestors to help achieve the message to get across through feeling
I really wanna learn the power of Haka and be one with yall in spirit. I cant understand a single shit that theyre saying but the message got through me like music. 💕💕💕
By sharing their culture instead of isolating it under the guise of "wrongful appropriation", the Maori are guaranteeing their tradition lives on and expands.
give the building and the people respect bc doing it is hard enough but to do it with suit on must b hard! in nz building arent that strong and everyone doing the haka in there would b scary ngl
in NZ buildings aren't built to withstand earthquakes, but Hakas.
Exactly! So much power that a haka brings!
shows how much the bulding respect
Let's bring them to defeat israel
The Haka on its own was an 8.5 magnitude felt it all the way here in Aus
I wondered about that. All that manly energy.....Rrrrrrrrr
Everytime. Every single time I watch the haka my breast swells and my hope in humankind is restored.
What??
I-
Wait, what?
doing the haka and hitting your chest feels painful
Are you pregnant and breastfeeding?!
Truly I say, the Haka is one of the things that will help keep Maori culture alive, as it is learnt by Maori and non maori school children throughout NZ. Ake ake ake, tihei mauri ora!
I'm a North African female in my 20's watching every haka video I come across and trying to learn the different versions.

Respect. Too many words are trivial. Respect.
Best graduation ever.
We need this in Wales, United Kingdom. Big respect.
that would be a disrespect towards the culture.... only Maori peeps can perform it
@@hiroshimagiggity372 no I mean we need a form of respect like this in the UK. Kids have zero respect for anyone.

I would really love to learn more about the culture in the future, i could sense the feel, respect and proud these people have
As a South African actor, I use Hakas to get me there for scenes where I need to cry. That or Rohan showing up to the party at Minas Tirith!

You know what's crazy? I was PNBHS 2009-2013 and we still sung Gaudeamus, i still sing it on the brews with old school mates
I have no idea why, ever time I watch these, I get choked up. Just amazing.

The shots of the back of heads is amazing. Who needs to see the emotion and hand gestures?
Why was there one person on the upper floor at the far right wasn't doing any movement?
Probably foreign student or something
Guy with specs in the middle must be a foreign exchange student 😂😂😂 1st day at school and you see this...😂
Their Māori ancestors must be proud their culture hasn't been lost on future generations

The younger boys are giving a final farewell of respect and honor to the the seniors. Possibly on their last day or similar.
