  • Here is the BMW M3 Competition in XDrive form! The XDrive BMW M3 Competition is an incredible car to drive. The BMW M3 Competition Xdrive is 3 cars in one. It gives you the traditional RWD option, a 4wd and a rear biased 4wd sport set up. The New M3 Comp Xdrive will do 0-62mph in 3.5s however its been proven to do it in 3.1. This is unbelievable performance for a 4 door saloon! Here are my thoughts on the BMW M3 Competition Xdrive and in the video you will find accelerations, sounds and my first drive review.

    As a former F82 BMW M4 owner and a current Audi RS5 owner, I think you are totally spot on regarding AWD. I would go a step further and say even without damp roads (I live in California), AWD is a huge benefit when you have that much power. And unlike my Audi, you can now have the best of both worlds with this new M3 xdrive. What an awesome car.

      Makes me wonder why BMW didn't simply go with this AWD platform from the beginning rather than offering the pure RWD car's when this car gives customers the option at the touch of a botton 🤔
      Id like to hear from someone who would rather have the pure RWD car now this is avaliable and why

      I came to same conclusion after an M235I,,M2 and M3 on UK roads which are a wet or damp probably 6 months of the year. Loving the seemingly endless traction from my current m340i but if I were to go the full M car route again it would definitely be the AWD version.

      @@markrhoden68 I’m in the states so I had another option when ordering my 22 M3 not mentioned here. I wanted a manual. I was willing to take the lower power and RWD to get three pedals in my M3. I crossed shopped it with a CT5-V Blackwing, but none of the Cadillac dealers were willing to play ball without ADM fees. It’s my only car and the ONLY way I would pivot to the AWD version is if we get the wagon variant in the states (not gonna happen). Otherwise, I’m extremely happy.

    Absolutely love the full fat M3/M4 awd and its great to watch / read the great reviews. I expected no less. However my G80 RWD M3C is a ruddy dream and more than covers my requirements. Love the thing. The fractions of extra allround performance gained by AWD is stunning but a wee bit beyond my needs.

    Hi Stef! I like the video. I would suggest changing the camera angle less often (your average is about a second between cuts). The primary reason for this particular video is to show the launching speed of xDrive, but each launch has several different camera angle changes which breaks my ability to visualize the speed relative to what I know. The exception to this is when you held the same angle when the camera was attached to the front of the car, which is an interesting angle, but almost meaningless from a standpoint of decerning the level of acceleration due to it not being relatable - there are no frames of reference I'm familiar with to try and visually sense the speed (remember we're not in the car with you and cannot feel the acceleration so we have to trick our brains to figure it out). A camera angle from near your head or something steady in the cabin (without changing the camera view within the launch) would have been more helpful to me as a viewer. Just thought I'd share since you're a relatively new channel and there's a small chance you'll actually see this :). Again, liked the vid.

    The G80 xdrive is the only one to get (unless you want a manual). Best of both worlds and is much faster/more fun than the RWD version. Wouldn't be surprised if they do all comps as xdrive (with 2wd option) for the mid model refresh. And they made the MDM 4wd sport mode feel very RWD biased (unlike RS audis) so you only really realize the AWD when you really need it (ie when you are about to spin out and/or crash).

      There is always this Road vs. Track trade-off. M3’s positioning is daily practicality with track performance, and the choice of ZF box confirmed it. It’s always good to see varieties out there, at least you can still get a Porsche with pdk for the track, just the entry barrier to this level of track driving got a little higher.

    • @Viktor9502

      @@dillonpickles6047 I agree. Unless your life is dedicated to racing cars and that’s how you make a living (RUclips, pro racer, or just a hobby)… a regular person won’t, and probably can’t afford, to spend a few grand to service the car after every track event. It’s just not logical. I’d rather just rent an exotic for a few laps and do that whenever I have the urge to track a car. No stress to my bank account and no damage to my car.

    • @MisoElEven
      @MisoElEven 2 года назад

      @@Viktor9502 I wonder which oil for an M3 costs a couple grand :D good performance tires will last you a good amount of laps on the track to make you exhausted if youre pushing the limits.. for example they were able to get 70-80 laps from the new sport contact 7 on Mugello (so about 15-20 laps on the Nordschleife?). Those were of course good experienced drivers who know how to treat their tires and keep up the tempo so for us average people its less, but thats still a good amount of fun + you dont need tires as expensive as those are to have fun on a free day. Although I agree its probably better to just rent something exotic, but then I also think its good to know where the limits of your car are (dont forget if you buy a BMW in 20 years its going to be 2000€ pile of junk used for wannabe drifters anyway). Then also if youre not planning to ever drive this car fast, whats the point of getting an M3 when you can get a reasonably well equipped 5 series for that price and invest the leftover capital.

      What difference does RWD make if you need stability control? Seems pointless, unless you just want to tell yourself you're driving a RWD. You can still use the 10-stage traction control with the xDrive RWD, which makes a lot more sense.

    • @nfavor

      Since you're citing weight, you'd also get the ceramic brakes, CF seats and CF exterior pack? And MDM is not DSC off. DSC is still on, it just had a wider threshold before interfering. On the 10 stage M Drivers Package, MDM is 8 out of 10 (DSC fully on)

    I long for the days of lighter, RWD, vehicles again.
    People are so obsessed with 0-60 times, it's embarrassing, racing from one set of traffic lights to the next, must get there first yawn ...........
    I drive my RWD car in heavy rain, snow, whatever, I have never been stuck, and I have never been so bothered about 'extracting every ounce of performance in bad weather' as you seem to be.
    In fact, I'm glad it struggles for traction and slides about, because you know what, it's FUN.
    The RWD 'mode' in this is not really RWD is it, and if (as you say) you cannot take corners in a RWD version like you can in this xDrive version, what you really mean is, you haven't got the driving skill to take corners in a RWD car like you can in this. And that for me is the whole point. You love AWD and you're glowing in this because it's xDrive, it doesn't make it better though.

    • @lpeter6773
      @lpeter6773 2 года назад +2

      This is the thing. You are absolutely right! I enjoy corners in cold wet weather with my 2WD Giulia Q. It's really cool when the real diff helps you out in the corners. Moreover 50kg is a lot to pay specifically at the front. AWD is for the weak! 😃

      @DjNikGnashers 2 года назад +1

      @@lpeter6773 It's horses for courses L Peter, I guess.
      I just get frustrated when every glowing review of the latest Audi with haldex/quattro, or BMW with Xdrive, or Merc with 4matic, etc etc gets automatically labelled as 'better' by reviewers.
      It's not better, it's just different.
      0-60 times are stupid these days, nobody really needs to go to 60 faster than 5 seconds lets be honest, yet every 10th quicker in the latest version over the old version of Audi/BMW/Merc/VW is somehow seen as a must have.
      Maybe there is an unseen force at large, who want to take every driving ability away from the actual driver, and place it in the hands of technology, autonomous braking, lane assist, radar guided cruise control, etc etc, because todays drivers are obviously far too busy making business calls from their cars to concentrate on the traffic, and it's just another step towards driverless cars which the governments would really love to see. That way they can control every aspect of our movement, and collect more data about where we go to/from, to sell us more crap we don't need !
