He fled to the north and got killed by giants, this Stark badass followed him, slayed 2 giants and got kill by a third one.

Jaime cut down 10 highborn bodyguards(Karstark/Hornwood etc) of Robb stark single handedly in battle of the whispering wood to get to Robb ..It took minimum 20men to stop him from killing Robb that too in the middle of a battle ...Two handed Jaime is a monster ,writer had to cut his right hand to make the story progress..
I think what many people missed: people obviously respected Jaime as he was til this day the youngest EVER Kingsguard at 17, fought the smiling knight at 15 and then later knighted by Sir Arthur Dayne. But what I also think is that even tho Jaime was nutorious for his accomplishments espcially for his age, his name and affiliation to house Lannister and Tywin probably also meant that knights who have never seen him fight thought that he got most of his reputation from being a Lannister alone. Espcially after he killed the Mad King this opinion strengstend in the the mind of a lot of soldiers who, even tho respect reputation will probably want to see what one can do with their own eyes. That's here it gets interesting. Because I definitely think that after killing the mad king especially soldiers started to look at Jaime as a handsome, entilted coward. But this probably changed after Greyjoys Rebellion. As EVERY big house in Westeros took part in the assault on Pyke I imagine most famous and well known knights took part, Vadis Egen for example too and saw UP CLOSE how Jaime decimated Greyjoy after Greyjoy. Most of these guys saw Jaime close to his peak and thus started to genuinely fear him again, even tho there was still resentmend for his oathbreaker. But that fear was probably the main reason why no one dared to call him Kingslayer to his face when he was still in his prime.
